We ordered salt and pepper wings as an appetizer and they didn't arrive at the table until after we had finished our entrees. I am sure I know what happened. The server brought salt and pepper shakers to the table when he brought the soups and salads, which has never happened at any Japanese restaurant we go to. Then, when he brought our entrees we reminded him that we are still waiting on our salt and pepper wings. I guarantee you, he thought we asked for shakers, not wings, when we ordered and he didn't put in the wing order until we reminded him that we were still waiting for them. Ironically, I prefer Toki, but we only came to Kyoto because my folks wanted the salt and pepper wings. So the one thing we came there for was the thing they messed up. read more

In my opinion, this is the best quality sushi place in Augusta, GA. The rice quality is definitely the best. Today I ordered the Red Dragon Roll and Yum Yum Roll. I normally get the yum yum roll with hibachi grill (Fillet Mignon and Scallops). First time dining in the establishment. Great vibe and very quiet area to enjoy lunch. Service is great even when busy during lunch hours. Definitely worth coming here for quality sushi. Always wonderful to come back to this location. Love this place! read more

I love this place! It's very well decorated.In fact it's downright pretty. The food is always hot, tasty and the service is excellent. I got my favorite, the salmon. I go here whenever my daughter visits as she loves the food and used to work here! Ms Helen is the owner, and she is so nice! I read the reviews and wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt. I ordered 2 rolls. Spicy salmon roll was ok. The Kyoto special had a bunch of stale crispy stuff on there that tasted a few days old. I let the staff know and they took it off the bill still super disappointing. My wife ordered the Gyoza appetizer and Crazy Crab Roll, l got the Pepper Tuna Tataki and Garden Roll. All of our food was freshly and brought to us in a timely manner. It's not as fancy and the menu is not as big as other sushi places in town, but the sushi hibachi is always fresh and tasty, the prices are very reasonable. The sushi here wasn't that great, and the service was among some of the worst. The only reason that I did not give this place one star instead was because a lot of the non-sushi food that I saw going to other tables actually looked pretty good. Based on my terrible experience here I would not go back to sit down and try it, but MAYBE would someday think about ordering it to go. Came here with a group, there were six of us total. The place wasn't super busy and we were seated right away. Another group of six sat down next to us a little after we did. The place started to fill up, but there were still open tables. Also, it was lunchtime so being moderately full shouldn't be that surprising. We said we needed a bit longer to be ready to place our order, but then our server disappeared on us and we had to wait a long time to order despite obviously looking around trying to find our server. Finally we ordered, and pretty much all of us ordered sushi... since we were at a sushi restaurant. That was apparently a mistake. I watched multiple people getting their food who sat down well after us. Some people were getting food before we even got to place our order! The table of six next to us, who sat down after us, also got their food well before we did. It took an incredibly long time for our sushi to come out, and when it did most people's orders were wrong. Our food did not come out at the same time, and one person in our group didn't get his sushi until after we'd gotten our checks and finished eating. We were cutting it really close on time and thankfully had a little bit of an extended lunch or we never would have made it back to work in time. It was an incredibly frustrating lunch. I ordered scallop sashimi and three salmon maki rolls. The scallops were pretty decent, no complaints there really. I wish I could have gotten the scallops as nigiri without the rice, but for whatever reason that was not an option. The salmon maki rolls came out as inside-out rolls, which was incredibly weird. Usually plain salmon maki rolls don't come inside-out and that's why I order three. If I had known it was going to so big, I would have adjusted my order. To top it off, the fish wasn't even that good. I ended up passing my third roll around the table. If you're going to make a plain maki roll with one ingredient inside out, I'd think you should mention that before someone orders three! read more

When i lived in Augusta, I frequented this restaurant often. It is better to go during the week when they have specials. The regular dinner portion is not too different than the special - although they will tell you it is. The main difference is either you'll get a soup or a salad. This particular time I ordered a sweet tea and the chicken and ribeye combination dinner. The dinner comes with soup and salad. The salad is a bowl of lettuce with your choice of dressing - so it is literally what you make it. I prefer a little ginger and ranch on the side. The soup was a bland chicken broth with 1 mushroom slice - for this- a little salt and pepper goes a long way. My vice with the steak is that I can't tell the difference between the ribeye and the filet mignon - and for the difference in price, I should be able to taste the difference. So I opt for the cheaper steak, the ribeye, everytime. This particular time, it was on the bland side, but it is usually pretty good. The chicken is flavorful, but doesn't reheat well. The white sauce is a heavy mayonnaise base - I've had better. Overall, for a budget friendly Japanese resturant, this isn't a bad option. I fed three adults for a little over 50 dollars (2 shrimp dinners and a ribeye and chicken combination dinner) However, if you are expecting something with high quality, I would recommend another place. read more

First, the oriental lady in glasses in a straight up C U Next Tuesday. She has an attitude and you are wrong and she is right no matter what. 2nd, it took almost a hr to get a to-go. They gave my order away bc I wasn't there quickly enough to pick it up. All that could me feeling some type of way... but look at the picture of my to-go. Charged me $17 for literally 3 pieces of shrimp and 7 bullshit pieces of chicken. (Review photo) Don't waste your money! They're so many other Japanese restaurants around to try out. It took 2 hrs to eat because it took over 45 mins to get our food. Staff basically ignored the customers. Our food was served barely warm. Portions were small but the taste was good. We both had teriyaki chicken and rib eye with fried rice and vegetables. In the past portions were much larger . This place needs a complete makeover and staff needs training ! There are dead dried out plants in the wait area and host desk. Poinsettias in March ? Okay , so I like poinsettias as much as the next person but they are dead so let them go. There are old plant containers with dirt around the doorway . This place is dark and dirty . We decided to never go back. Did Uber delivery this evening and they totally botched the order. Some items we ordered were not included, and items we did not order were included. When we called to complain about the order, they offered a credit charge refund in 3 to 5 days which is total bullshit. They charged the card immediately and we all know they can do the refund immediately as well. I'll be watching for it. After my first visit, it wasn't THAT bad (recommended by friend). It may not be the best sushi you eat, but for the area and price it works. - Easily $20pp (unless you pig-out) - Friendly service - Food takes a bit to come out - Inexpensive prices - Needs more Sashimi - See my photos! The main reason they get 3-stars is because for some reason they use a California Roll as a base for a few rolls they shouldn't. I don't order anything with a Cali roll base, so my options were limited. The sushi wasn't "out of the water" fresh, but if you're expecting that you shouldn't be eating sushi so far inland. The quality was still good, no old chewy fish here. We ordered a few different rolls, did some table sharing with friends and there wasn't a single roll between us that I didn't enjoy. The nigiri I ordered came with a good portion of fish, although I would have preferred sashimi (only platter options). I picked up the Rock and Roll ($8.49), Crazy Crab Roll ($9.99), Sunny Roll ($9.49), and Smoked Salmon Nigiri 2pcs ($3.99). My "crazy crab" roll actually had aluminum foil in it which is a tooth filling nightmare. It also tasted a little bit like the refrigerator that they must store ingredients in...stale. Only reason family came in today was because Tako Sushi was closed. Came in hopeful food would be at least half-decent. Ordered the Red Dragon Roll and an Eel Hand Roll. Eel hand roll was ok, except the taste of eel was over powered by whatever smoky barbeque they used and the seaweed was super chewy and hard to bite through. Two stars again Kyoto. Why must you be this way?! WHYYYY?! My sister-in-law politely asked for a substitution to be made since she is a vegan. She wanted the cucumber roll instead of the standard california roll in her bento box. They said that this was impossible because, "They have to make the whole roll all at once." Well by all means, make a whole cucumber roll all at once, MY GOD! That really shouldn't matter if the goal is Customer Service. A true Japanese sushi chef can make smaller rolls, leading to less waste, and apparently, higher customer satisfaction. Because they CAN, and they DO. But not here at Kyoto. She had to pick a great many things out of her meal and give it to us omnivores instead. I personally think that this sheds a bad light on a business, if they can't take the time to avoid cross-contamination with their vegan customers. Which should be SUPER EASY to do when you're dealing with Japanese Food, since there can be a lot of veggies involved, and plenty of surface cleaning aids, and extra gloves are always on hand. Once again, my meal was mediocre, and the salmon skin hand roll was not consistent. When you run a restaurant, you have to make sure that every chef makes every dish exactly the same way. Inconsistency drives away customers. They have better rolls at the Krogers on Columbia or Washington Road, honestly. My tuna/crab spring roll came on a bed of soy sauce, that had soaked halfway through by the time it got to me. I said I was only giving you one more chance, and you failed miserably.
