Signed up as an instructor for AHA BLS recertification. The company did not tell me the handouts,…read morei.e., the tests had a fulfillment center, so I paid out of pocket to make copies for materials I needed. It amounted to over 500 pages because there was no information provided, whether they required Spanish or English copies (each test amounted to about 40 pages, 2 tests, in both languages.) That was just part of the printing I had to do. "Oh, we will reimburse you for printing." So after using one ream of paper, a toner (laser printer) and a drum, or part of one. I asked for 25 cents per copy after considering all the factors, and 500 pages at 25 cents a copy is not an unreasonable amount. I was told they have a fulfillment center, after the fact. They gave me no information about the client, whether American or Hispanic, and I went in cold to teach this class. I would avoid working for this company. They use their instructors by having them operate in a deficit.

As I entered the building, I was immediately greeted by the security guard. After checking my identification, he directed me to the donation room. As I entered the donation area, I was once again, immediately greeted. Each person with which I interacted was VERY professional and courteous. I was seen almost immediately (in advance of my appointment time). The technician that took care of me (Ms. S) was one of the fastest and most polite people I have ever had the fortune with which to work (not that I did much). Her donation stick was painless and fast. She explained each step of the process and what to do and expect post donation. The 'recovery' canteen was bountiful. I took in my share of cookies and juices. Upon my departure, I was thanked again and given a t-shirt.

This past weekend I went to the American Red Cross's Mt. Hope facility to donate blood. I want to…read moreapplaud the women working there for their knowledge and professionalism. I am a regular donor, so I use the American Red Cross app to make my appointment, and to fill out the Rapid Pass before I got to the facility. Everything was a breeze from checking in with the volunteer at the front desk, through the process of getting my vitals and making sure I had the requisite level of iron needed to donate. I came in to make a Power Red donation but did not have a high enough number, but I was still able to donate whole blood. The process took about an hour, and you get cookies, water, and cranberry juice to boot. In this season of giving, I implore you to give the gift of life through a blood donation to the American Red Cross, especially if you have a blood type that is rarer than others.
