I realize Dr. Brecke has an attitude of "don't worry it's all fine " going on. People like his laid back demeanor. His office staff and Hygienist are very pleasant. They have the same "come on in!" Attitude. His office is a little outdated but clean. This time I went to him it was for an infection in a previous crown. My face was swollen and I was in extreme pain! They couldn't get me in for awhile (the start of no back up plan for emergencies!) so I contacted a previous dentist and was seen right away and given antibiotics. The prescribing dentist is not someone that I want to go to for routine things because he is always saying I need thousands of dollars in dental procedures that I question. I went back for the pulling of the infected molar. This appointment happen to be the same day that we had a death in the family! I told the receptionist about this when I arrived. Dr. Proceeded to pull my tooth. His assistant was obviously new! She didn't provide the assistance Dr Brecke needed. It was obviously irritating him. I left with no antibiotics, no rinse of any kind and a handout. Over the next few days my tooth started to become infected! I called first thing on a Monday! The receptionist said Dr Brecke had come in that morning "shaky so I sent him home to sleep for a few hours" Apparently there was an emergency in his family that weekend). I was sympathetic because our family was going through a rough patch. I asked what I should do. She said wait for a few hours and they would call back. I waited... called back after 4 hours! The women on the phone said he wasn't there yet. I said "don't you have a back up dentist for emergencies? She answered in a flat voice "well we use ---- but normally we give him a heads up"! I said "I'm going to Urgent care. I went there and was put on a strong antibiotic! When I went back to have it checked after two days of medication, no one mentioned the whole ordeal! Dr. Brecke looked uninterested and said it would heal. He told me to "just quit taking the antibiotics when it starts feeling better! At this point my mouth was super sore and raw but starting to heal! He gave me no numbing rinse or anything for pain. The last straw was when he just walked away from me to the front of the office. He handed my chart (who doesn't use computer charting?) and said to the receptionist "well we will probably never see her again but if she has any further problems she can call"! Very unprofessional! No attention given for pain or infection! The kicker is I have had a total knee replacement last year! A bone infection would be horrible in my case! I will look for a new dentist! One that doesn't want to do everything he can think of but also is on the ball for the basics of my dental health!

Before even being seen, I paid up front and explained my financial situation. During the appointment, a staff member came into the room and told me I'd have to pay more or they wouldn't be able to proceed with treatment. I was already overwhelmed and in tears, and I reminded them I had already paid. She apologized and left the room. Later, I received a $300 bill for an incomplete root canal. Because of the way they coded and billed it, my insurance didn't cover anything -- it didn't even apply toward my deductible. Then I was told I'd have to wait to finish the procedure until my deductible reset the following year and I could afford the rest. Eventually, the bill doubled and was sent to collections. On top of that, they never explained that the crown (which is essential to complete a root canal) would be a separate and significant additional cost. I'm now left with an incomplete root canal and a $700 bill, and no clear communication throughout the process. UPDATE: I've uploaded a photo to clarify that the work was never completed, despite their claims. Transparency and clear communication are essential in healthcare -- unfortunately, I didn't experience that here. They also have a tendency to lie on public forums, obviously. I was putting off my next dental visit because of some sensitivity I had been having with my teeth. After the dog ate my night guard I decided it was time. With this visit I also decided to try out a new dentist. Dr. Thompson at Pacific Oak Dental came highly recommended to me by a friend, so I decided to check it out even though it was a little bit of a drive for me. For starters, the building is very nice, updated and very clean. I was promptly greeted with a smiling staff member. I had x-rays, an exam, cleaning, and they were also able to take impressions for my night time grind guard. I was happy that they were able to fit all of that in within 2 hours. Dr. Thompson didnt just pop in and take a quick look and leave like others I have experienced in the past. He looked around and was very thorough. The personal touch goes a long way. He discussed any concerns I had, what I wanted in the future, and also what he recommended that I 'should' do. Not once did it seem as though any of them were pressuring me to buy something. Thank you! My hygenist was personable, Bri was her name. Super easy to talk to, friendly and she was a gentle flosser. (BONUS POINTS) After everything was done they took me to the consultation room where they had everything broken down for me. What was covered by my ins. What wasnt. Etc. It is always nice to know right away what it is going to cost to do the things I want to do in future visits before leaving. This gives me plenty of time to think about options, budget etc. Needless to say, I rescheduled my follow up visit for mynight guard and will also be returning for another cleaning in November. I was appalled by her tone, her threat as though they're entitled to have clients choose them even if they have to pay out of pocket. I was so glad it wasn't me in that conversation, I might not have taken it as well as she did. Poor lady! It really shook me up, I don't think we'll continue to go there, super strange vibe.

Usually we just confirm and move on, but my husband didn't have cell service before the appointment, and I didn't get notified. That being said, they cancelled our appointment simply because we didn't hit a confirm button (according to them this is just their office policy) and weren't able to reschedule us for another three months out, even though I asked if a time could be made sooner because THEY cancelled our appointment without our consent or request. The receptionist was incredibly terse and unhelpful, and I find myself feeling incredibly frustrated that our appointment was cancelled on us without any indication on our part that we weren't going to show or wanted to cancel. If you're going to use this dentist, make sure you always have cell service before your appointments. The actual dentist and assistants are nice and seem good at what they do, but apparently they don't need new patients because they can't even accommodate the patients they have, so maybe go somewhere else.
