We need a contractor here for a very long list of projects and we wanted Payless to be the one. But. It took 8 weeks and now we have a basic shed, wooden entrance steps and a back door. See pics. I didn't want to hire him because when we first met him, he was three hours late without contacting us, but my partner wanted to give him a chance. I contacted him after two hours and some errands and he showed up an hour after THAT. NEVER HIRE SOMEONE THIS DISRESPECTFUL. I think my partner learned a lesson. Derek said he had 29 men working for him and that we would have a shed in a day. The men worked two at a time for FIVE HOURS PER WEEK for six weeks. On three separate occasions he had four or more men here, but not even for full work days. That accounts for the other two weeks. He would say they were coming and they didn't. He would say they would be here in the morning and they would arrive two and a half hours dark. Once he told us they were in our driveway. WE were in our driveway. They weren't in sight. Even though I told him I wanted steps, he was somehow stuck on a ramp and wouldn't listen until I yelled. His guys don't speak English, either, so how could I possibly get a good result? We always had to call him to translate from miles away. I did not have 8 weeks to waste on this guy. The floor should have been done by now, insulation, tree damage . . . I had time to do all of that before it got cold but he took 8 weeks on three small projects and I couldn't schedule anything else because he was never truthful about when his men would be here. It's possible that his men lie to him about where they are. I can't think of any other reason why someone would lie like that. Last Saturday, I told him not to come back. Then like a bully, out of the blue, his guys came on Tuesday, as if he's so belligerent that he had to show a DYING woman who's boss. That's right, I have stage 5 cancer and people in my condition live for about 20 months and he knew that I was trying to fix this place for my bf to live in after I'm dead. He set me back by an entire winter. I'm thinking about haunting him after death if I'm allowed. Hopefully there will be better things to do. Three days later I had to kick them off my property after realizing they literally had no clue what they were doing. I paid $1000 plus bought all materials including a sanding block, should have been a huge red flag that a professional contractor didn't even have something to sand with, his other company is a drywall company. Everything they touched they either broke or left in worst condition than found. On top of what I gave them and the need to pay a "real contractor" to come in and redo/fix their shoddy "work" I also had to pay for things they broke while they were attempting to do the work they said they could do. NO refund or compensation was offered even after admitting to not doing anything properly. The pictures do not even show all the damage they left behind. A complete and total mess that I had to continue to ask the workers to clean up after themselves. All in I was quoted $1500 and will end up paying almost $4000!!! Very expensive life lesson

I do not normally leave reviews but I must for J. Carnes & Son's Roofing of Hampton Falls NH. We…read moreneeded to replace the roof on my son's new home in Salem New Hampshire. I received five Roofing quotes from various companies in the area. I met all five in person on site. Only one, Tom Deschuytner from J. Carnes & Son's Roofing took the time to put a ladder against the house and climb up there to inspect the old roof in numerous areas. He also is the only one to go into the attic and inspect the roof decking. The other four companies just walked around the house and spent maybe 15 minutes with me. I asked if they needed to see the attic or take any measurements and they all said no we can measure from satellite imagery. I also explained to all the companies that we were going to do a close cell foam in the attic and wanted to do away with the soffit vents in ridge vent and have gutters put on. So, they would need to build out the Fascia area to accommodate the gutters. Only Tom spent the time with me to go over the whole process and how it would work. I will say. J. Carnes & Son's Roofing Quote was not the cheapest yet not the most expensive. And Tom also said this might be the case... But because he took the time to inspect the house and the scope of work to be done, and the time spent with me, I chose to use J. Carnes & Son's to do the job. I like companies that have a human answer their phones... Over the following weeks, the communication with their office, "Jill, & Shannon," and communicating with Tom to finalize the quote was absolutely the most professional and pleasurable experience I have had working with a company in many years! Hats off to that team! Thank you! A week or so ahead of time, I received informative/instructional videos via email that described what to expect before the work would begin like the dumpster being delivered and materials being delivered, etc. The night before the work began. I got a phone call from Josh who introduced himself as the project manager asking me if I had any questions and letting me know what time they would be arriving. and that he would be on site for the entire job. They arrived on time 7:30 AM on a Friday morning with a crew of at least 7. They got right to work and began stripping the roof. We already knew we needed to plywood the garage decking but once they got the old shingles off the house, Josh came to me and explained, and it was obvious to me it was also going to need plywood decking put on to meet the warranty specifications of the shingles. This added more cost to the to the job, but that's life and if you want things done right you do things right. Due to this, they could not finish the job in one day and Josh explained to me that they would be working till 6:30 PM and would be back tomorrow "Saturday morning "to finish up. I was impressed as to how the entire yard was cleaned up before they left. Saturday came and they finish shingling the last quarter of the roof and trim and completed the gutters. I was totally impressed how well Josh worked with me on how I wanted the downspouts done and where they dump the water... and his crew to do so... Thank You Josh and Crew!! I must say that one of the first things I picked up on was that Josh has an incredible crew. Everybody knew their job; they worked like clockwork. They had a woman on their crew, that kept the yard clean as they strip the roof as well as loading shingles to the crew on the roof and then on the roof passing shingles to the crew as they installed them. I spent both days on the job site and the respect that crew has for Josh and the respect he has for them is remarkable! Great Team Work!! When they were done, the yard was cleaner than when they showed up! The time in care to be sure, they were no nails or debris in the grass or elsewhere, was remarkable! I thank the entire crew and Josh for their professionalism and the quality of work done! I thank Tom, Jill, & Shannon for their professionalism and communication skills! So, I give J. Carnes & Son's Roofing a highly-rated 10 STARS and I recommend them for any of your roofing needs! Thanks.

They are barely attached with only 1 self drilling screw. Every single gutter on my house is failing...dripping in back of the gutter, or the whole spout coming off. I called him this morning as we experienced some leakage on the porch addition which had been part of the original job. I was overwhelmed when I asked him if he could take a look at the problem and he showed up today, the same day I called! Dan discovered that the flashing adhesive had stiffened up causing a separation of some of the flashing from the roof and within 30 minutes he was done fixing it and gone! I have ever heard or witnessed such unprofessional, unsafe, and disruptive work. They covered my kitchen window without notifying me. They have a man on a roof above my bathroom window so I cannot use my bathroom with privacy, again, without making me aware this would happen. There is a man on the next door roof that is not using any kind of harness or safety equipment. Furthermore, I have heard the leader/boss scream at his employees now for an hour. He is constantly screaming at them for urgency but then screaming at them with corrections/frustration as soon as they do anything. They are making a truly inconsiderate and extreme amount of noise with their every action, even considering the fact that they're roofing. Slamming, dropping, dragging, screaming.
