I went to get my teeth cleaned for the first time with the hygienist Lori. I was so impressed with how thorough and gentle she was while cleaning my teeth. Lori was professional and kind and I could tell that she had been working there for quite some time. I was blown away by Dr. Ed Kwaitkowski's detailed evaluation!!! dr kwiatkowski is an amazing and professional dentist who's service i have no issue with. his receptionists on the other hand lack professionalism and i seem to always have issues with. i called in because i received a letter overcharging me for a service i was wrongly charged for, and when i was contacting to see if we can review getting it removed she stated "well that's not my problem, are you going to pay the balance or what. what's the reason for your call." i requested to schedule a conversation with the dr himself and she said "well that's too bad , he doesn't do over the phone conversations . you can either schedule an appointment or pay the balance." I told her i didn't understand the hostility or attitude from her , that it's just an issue i need resolved and don't trust that if that's how she's talking to me , that if she'll even relay my message. she laughed and said "well that's not going to happen". read more

I took my mom here, because she was referred to this office by a friend of hers who also knows Dr. Kwiatkowski. The office is clean and nice, and the staff seemed friendly enough. My mom went in because she was having some tooth pain and sensitivity, so she wanted to get her teeth checked out. I should also point out that my mother has cancer, so she wasn't looking to have anything performed right away, she was going for a consult to see what needed to be done, so that she could get clearance from her oncologist. Her appointment was with Dr. Kwiatkowski. She notified him of her cancer, and that she had had chemotherapy and radiation for tumors in her head and on her jaw. He determined that one of her molars needed a crown ($1,550), she needed a tooth colored filling "of a front tooth" ($335), and gave her a quote for a cleaning ($120). He also determined that she needed a mouth guard at night to prevent teeth grinding and gave her a quote for that as well ($995). He also charged her $243 for the x-ray she received. He was very adamant about getting her in for an appointment for all the dental work, but my mom very politely said she would call for her appointment after she had her routine check-up with her oncologist. About 4 days after the initial appointment, Dr. Kwiatkowski called the referring friend, to inquire as to whether or not my mom was going to make a return appointment. My mom explained that she had already informed Dr. Kwiatkowski that she would not make an appointment until after she spoke to her oncologist. She also informed him that the quote for all the procedures was a little steep, and that she would find another dentist to the work. I'm guessing their friend relayed the message to Dr. Kwiatkowski, because the friend called again, to caution my mother against dental procedures because she needed to consult her oncologist and her tumors in her face were potentially problematic. It was incredibly unprofessional for the Dr. to call the mutual friend to, in essence, pressure my mom into getting an appointment. It was also a little strange that he gave my mother instructions for her cancer care, considering he just had the friend repeat back information that my mom relayed to the Dr. at their appointment. I wouldn't recommend this place, because Dr. Kwiatkowski seems pushy. It felt as though he was doing everything in his power to find problems just to hike up his bill. Unless you want to have a bunch of unnecessary dental work done and over pay, I wouldn't go here. read more

My son was having dental pain sent him here because they said they could take our insurance. After an exam and X-Rays they determined he needed his wisdom teeth out. They sent him home with 7 days of Antibiotics and we were waiting for copies of the X Rays and paperwork to make him a surgery appointment at his home dentist in San Diego. The incompetent staff took more than a week and a half with constant calling to get us his X rays. Which delayed his surgery by two weeks. You have lost customers due to your incompetent staff. Hello Dr. Marschik, I am emailing to inform you that your staff is not telling the truth. He was seen on Oct 09, as you specified. I spoke to your staff members 2 time on that day of his appointment to give my insurance information. Between the Oct 10 and 17 my son called daily asking for his x-ray to be sent to him or his doctor they did nether. I begin calling on 10/18 by now I am highly upset and let them know it because my son is being ignored. I spoke to your staff on 10/18 only to be told they were very busy, had new staff so they were blaming it on the new girl for not sending it out properly. I just needed my sons X-Rays so I could get him seen and out of pain and they finally email it to me on 10/19 taking their time. I was expecting to fly him home the week of the 9th instead he flew home on the 21 and had surgery on the 23rd. I the parent should not have to call your office at all. Since I am the paying adult I cannot believe this is the service your staff is providing to its customers. On day 1, I told your staff that my son would be a customer to your office if he needed any emergency care but with this incident that will no longer happen. I am saddened that this is the way you would treat a patient in pain. Here is the email with the xrays that was finally sent to me 10 days after he was seen in your office. I work in a medical facility. Your staff needs training on how to take care of customers in a timely manner and to stop making excuses when a problem is brought to their attention. This dentist office is extremely disappointing and unwilling to accommodate people with disabilities. The dentist has zero understanding of task-trained service animals (I'm not talking about emotional support, I'm talking about a medical alert and response service dog licensed with the state of California that received professional training). The technician who performed my cleaning was extremely nice and understanding about disabilities and did an excellent job on the cleaning, including commenting on how good my working dog did with all of the strange sounds and equipment. However, the dentist himself rather than discussing with me his concerns, had the receptionist call and just cancel my appointment the night before asking me to "just leave the dog in the car" and they wouldn't see me if I "needed to bring the dog". Discriminating against an individual with a disability can warrant a federal lawsuit and an official complaint with the U.S. DOJ according to the Federal ADA laws. I would not recommend this dentist office to anyone given their lack of care for individuals with disabilities. read more

Took my toddlers here for the first time and we were greeted by staff and a smooth registration process. My toddlers were seen by Dr Marschik and they immediately, felt at ease with her. She was so caring, gentle, patient and understanding. Dr Marschik also explained in details of what she was doing and what further care each one of my toddlers will be needing. My oldest toddler is already excited for his next visit. My husband and I also made ourselves appointments and hopefully, we have found our family dentist! read more

Two dentists who are on point. They are professionals who make you feel at home. I have been a patient for 15 years. It is a small family practice. Dr Marschik is my dentist, but sometimes Dr. Kwiatkowski checks my teeth too during my cleanings. I like how they explain each procedure in simple terms to you and are very tuned in to their patient needs. I am never in pain. I have major anxiety when it comes to the dentist, and Dr. Marschik has always soothed my nerves. When they are working on you it is always done with the utmost gentle care. They really go the extra mile to meet your needs. Allison, Oscar, Susan and Lori are also wonderful! The office staff is very communicative and kind. Susan or Allison always call beforehand to remind you of your appointment. I never have to wait more than 5-10 minutes, and the magazines are always plentiful and up to date. read more

I have been Dr Ed's patient for many years. To describe Dr Ed in a few words would be: expert, honest, and kind. Dr Ed and his staff are simply wonderful! I had an elongated front tooth that didn't match my other one, and I was blown away at how Dr Ed made my other tooth match and look 100% natural. I also recently had a much needed crown, which also looks 100% natural. I have also signed up for custom fit bleaching trays. They are easy to use and, wow, my teeth are SO much whiter. I am NOT a fan of going to the dentist. The staff have been great and have really helped me get over my fear and take ownership of my dental care. Lori, the hygienist is absolutely wonderful. Diligent and very empathetic. She did a great job explaining things to me and got me motivated to take care of myself. Dr M is super considerate of your feelings, and was so diligent and her attention to detail was extraordinary. The support staff is also wonderful and while I'll never be in a rush to visit the dentist, I certainly feel I'm in good hands. I have a huge fear of the dentist, challenging financial circumstances and have been going through a emotional time in my personal life. A broken tooth was just the straw to break the camels back. They got me in the office quickly, and when I got there they treated me with dignity and compassion. No pain, empathy and the next day a tooth that has no pain and I am chewing. Ha! I would not recommend this practice to new patients for the following reasons. I became a patient of Dr. Marschik after my previous dentist told me they would no longer accept my Concordia insurance. The dental treatment I received from Dr. Marschik was good, at least consistent with other area dentists I have attended over the last thirty years. The problem started when my insurance copay was unexpectedly large and when I called the insurance company I was told that Dr. Marschik was no longer an in-network provider. When I called the dental office they confirmed that fact so I asked when did my coverage cease and why were we not told. The office responded by saying they do not know when coverage ceased and they have so many patients and so many insurance carriers, it is not possible to notify individual patients when their insurance is no longer being accepted. I found this hard to believe since all other dentists I have attended have no problem doing this. As a result my wife and I continued to receive treatment unaware that our insurance was not covering our costs. I wrote to Dr. Marschik explaining the issue and asking if she might consider adjusting the bill. I got no reply. I called the office asking if I could get a response to my letter and was told they would follow up and call me back. I got no call back. I called a couple of weeks later asking the same thing - just a courtesy reply even if the answer is no adjustment. Again I was told they would follow up and call me back with a response. Again no one called back. I see from previous posts that other patients have had insurance issues with this practice so I would not recommend new patients to consider using their services. If you do, be sure to get in writing for every visit that the treatment you are about to receive is in fact covered by your insurance otherwise you will end up like us with several hundred dollars of uninsured costs with no interest from their office in addressing the issue.. read more

Dr Ed & Dr Mary Anne have been taking GREAT care of me for five years now. There aren't enough stars here to say what they've done for my oral health, let alone my smile! I had been dealing with cracked and broken teeth for years, to the extent that I'd even habitualized covering my teeth when smiling to hide my hideous smile. I recently visited this office and had such a good experience that I felt the need to share it with others! While out of town on business I started experiencing a severe toothache that was giving me migraines, I phoned many offices and most were short or unresponsive! With this office they were very responsive and showed affection, they were able to get me in right when I returned from business. The office personnel were friendly and made me feel comfortable, I've had many bad experiences in the past so this was nice for a change. Dr. Marschik and Dr. Kwiatkowski came highly reccomended by a good friend when I moved to Monterey three years ago. My experience with them and their staff has been wonderful. Military members BEWARE! Despite what this office might lead you to believe they ARE NOT preferred providers and you will pay dearly out of pocket! My experience with this dental office was questionable from go. It was difficult to book an appointment. They had over two weeks to request dental x-rays from my previous dentist, but waited until two days before my appointment to do so and as a result didn't have them on hand for reference when I was seen. They charge $26 the first time you walk in the door for "duplicate x-rays" that you may or may not need in the future. The new patient paperwork you complete literally states something to the effect of "Your insurance company doesn't know what is best for you....we do....we are in this business to make a profit....." Depending on who you speak with at the front desk, it's literally like pulling teeth to get straight answers. After my initial (and only) consultation with Dr. Kwiatkowski I opted to go elsewhere - THANK GOD - because at that point I was still under the impression that they were preferred providers. By the time I left the office, Dr. Kwiatkowski wanted me to come back for two crowns, a filling and a "deep cleaning" on a quarter of my mouth. He also suggested that I have my teeth bleached. For the record, I have always had routine cleanings and maintenance - I didn't walk into Dr. Kwiatkowski's office with mush mouth or any identified pain. I was simply trying to get established as a patient so that I could come back and have my teeth cleaned. The next dentist I went to a week later (a preferred provider with Monterey Peninsula Dental Group) ended up doing two small fillings and a regular cleaning. I cannot begin to understand how there could be such a HUGE difference in professional dental opinion. Two weeks after my visit with Dr. Kwiatkowski I was shocked to receive a bill for $52. When I called his office to discuss the bill I indicated to them that one of their receptionist wrongly lead me to believe that they were preferred providers. The woman I spoke with acknowledged that clearly there had been a miscommunication and apologized, but offered no discount on the bill. She was confident Dr. Kwiatkowski would not make any amends for the error on the part of his staff. I went so far as to ask if we could split the bill because of the misinformation I was provided, but was told "no." If you are looking for a dentist that can provide routine maintenance and keep your teeth and wallet happy I STRONGLY recommend finding another dentist. You will save yourself lots of time, frustration and money. read more

I was traveling through the area and had a dental emergency. It was a Friday night and I had nowhere to turn. A youth hostel worker said he had a great dentist. I called Dr. Marschick and she had an emergency number. I received a call back five minutes later. Both she and her husband Dr. K showed up at 9 PM and worked two straight hours to save my tooth! They demonstrated the utmost professionalism and were very compassionate toward my plight. They used excellent problem solving skills and communicated the situation clearly so as to enlist my understanding and agreement with their proposed plan. The result was that they stabilized my loose tooth so that it could grow back. She was able to fit me in on Monday for an hour and a half appointment to build a temporary crown for the other damaged tooth. They gave me a protective mouth guard and complete instructions for aftercare, and she wrote a report for my regular dentist. The billing manager sent my paid bill to my insurance company for me for partial reimbursement. I was able to finish my vacation in one piece. And most of all, they saved my tooth!
