Is KWAI 1080 AM of Honolulu off the air? Also known as K108, the station broadcast talk radio. It seemed to be an independent, locally owned station that had survived consolidation in that industry. Unlike many talk radio stations, it did not lean to the right but offered shows from a variety of perspectives. I remember progressive and independent shows over the years, some of them local.
On June 30 and July 1st, 2018, the station was not on the air. I called a business that had a weekly show on the station. The person who answered the phone said they thought the station was off the air, maybe for good.
The number to call into shows, 524-1080 is not in service. The office number rang without answer, but it was the weekend. The station's website said there is a way to listen online but I did not try it.
If a radio station goes off the air, does it make a sound? It does to me. Strange how a media outlet could just end that way. According to their website KWAI 1080 had been on the air since 1970.
Thanks to those who ran this station and to those who created its shows. Aloha. read more
