Dammit, I'm going to be the first to review something, I don't care if there IS a KTUH review...it's a one line sentence and I'm certainly going to take credit where I can get it. ANYWAY...
Tired of hearing the same song 20 times in an hour? Tired of the vapid, asinine, and boring DJ's on the "mainstream" stations? Well tune into KTUH!
I've been listening to KTUH since high school (late '80's, early '90's) and have loved it since the first time I heard Digital Underground being played in the middle of the day, the song was "Freaks of the Industry".
It was mind-boggling to hear this song on a radio station. It's not exactly the most wholesome song, but it was WAY better than hearing that damned "Humpty-Dance" song. I also heard a parody of "Girls" by the Beastie Boys entitled "Squirrels"...hee-larious.
Anywho, the shows are basically split into blocks, you can look up the schedule on their website http://www.ktuh.org. I LOVE everything they play on there. They have a gothic show on Saturdays, they used to have a hip-hop show with Kavet, and they still have a hip-hop show, I'm not sure who the host is but I've heard once and again. There's also a beats show, a jazz show, etc., etc.
For anyone that reminisces about Radio Free Hawaii, they should for sure be listening to KTUH, the FIRST sucka-free deal on the island.
I love the fact that they have free-form shows hosted by DJ's who aren't about being DJ's (except for G-Spot, that dude sucks, he plays decent music but MY GOD is he nasally and just a pain in the ass to listen to). They don't play the same song every 10 minutes, and c'mon, where else are you going to get a Hawaiian block where they actually speak nothing but Hawaiian during the show.
Support KTUH! If you don't, well, then Clear Channel will end up owning every radio station out here and then it's really going to suck...and I'd for sure rather be listening to G-Spot drone on non-sensically, and uncharismatically for who knows how long than listen to another Hudson joke about her boobs, or hear any other pre-packaged DJ on 93.9, 101.9, 102.7, etc., etc.
I think in fact, the world is making me age at a faster degree than normal since aside from KTUH my only other refuge for anything not crap on the radio is on AM. Hoo-boy, next thing I'll be wearing Bermies, black socks, and brown sandals...oh, wait...dammit!
Anywho, listen to KTUH, it rocks, it rolls, it hip-hops, it jazzes, it dances, it goths, it Hawaiians, it's got beats, and much much more! read more
