I recently discovered this station on the Internet. It plays Hawaiian music, broadcast live traffic reports, and other news, just as it would over the airwaves. Listening to the traffic reports reminds me of all of the roads I used to travel on when I was at home, and the sights along the roadways. Though not useful to me but still, I get a "Kick" listening to the reports. Though I love life in California, and consider it a great place to be in, I still love to have a part of home, to remember my days of growing-up in the islands. Now, with the great invention of the Internet, I am able to receive the music to remind me of my younger days. We are all fortunate to have the Internet available to make life for us so great. I love Hawaiian 105, but I am so disappointed they have gone to the subscription based service now. Being in San Diego, I would love listening to the station all day at work. I am going to miss hearing Na'au Therapy with Billy V. and Mele Apana during my days. I considered them ohana because they have been a part of mornings. I hope KINE reconsiders this option. I've you've read any of my reviews you might notice the little tagline I put at the bottom that starts with the word "Mahalo." It's not an attempt to be cool or anything. It's just a little shout out to my Hawaiian heritage. As an Army brat I've had the opportunity to live in various locations around the world. And while this allowed me to enjoy experiences that most kids (and even some adults) might never be exposed to there was a big downside. That being not having a sense of home. That always changes whenever I get to visit relatives in Hawaii. But then I leave, and get all bummed out. If only there was a way to stay connected to paradise. Thank God for Hawaiian 105 KINE. The only radio station in Hawaii that strictly plays music by Hawaiian artists, DA KINE offers a great combination of the more traditional Hawaiian folk songs, as well as contemporary covers with a bit of a Hawaiian take on them. There's also plenty of news and updates on what's happening with Hawaiian government, events, and culture. I almost feel as if I know better what's going on in Hawaii than I do here in Ohio. And there's something comforting listening to DA KINE's weather report and hearing how beautiful the weather is while I'm stuck in an office in Ohio in the middle of a snowstorm. There's two things you need to know about Hawaiian music. We Hawaiians make either the most beautiful music you will ever hear...or some of the worst that will ever torture your ears. But believe me the good will always outweigh the bad. Hawaiian music doesn't have a particularly large repertoire, so you can always count on hearing your favorites at least once a day. This includes my all time favorite song (both Hawaiian and otherwise), a beautiful rendition of the Muppet classic Rainbow Connection by The Brothers Cazimero (done completely in the native Hawaiian language). This duo is also responsible for a number of other Hawaiian classics. And when speaking about artists from the islands you of course have to think of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, known affectionately as "IZ." This giant of a man (both literally and figuratively) was the standard of Hawaiian music until his untimely death in 1997. You might not recognize the name but I'm sure you've heard his version of Over the Rainbow. Hawaiian 105 KINE is a great radio station that makes you feel as if you're on the island. Or in my case, it makes me feel as if I'm home. The wonders of the internet allows me to experience that feeling whenever I like. Check out the website when you have a chance (www.hawaiian105.com). Hawaiian 105 is the best station to listen to either driving around Oahu or at home and office for a touch of paradise. We stop by the station to say Aloha and we were greeted with warm ohana spirit. I discovered KINE while listening to AM 940 another COX radio station on line. The thing is, if you are in Hawaii and you were born there as I have spoken to many many locals about this, you have a theory ,a dream, a fantasy, of the 4 seasons as we have it in NYC. But that's all it is. Snow is not like what you see on the Hallmark Channel. Dogs pee on it , it turns yellow and pollution turns it gray. It is only white as it falls but doesn't stay white. I was born and raised on Oahu but moved to the SF Bay area after college. This station keeps me rooted to home. Now I can't listen to it. I am really bummed the internet listening is no longer available. It worked flawlessly with my SONOS system. JUNK!!!! read more

I hate to leave this review but I have been listening to this radio station for a very long time and I'm going to say this new Morning Show is so horrible that I no longer listen to this station. That lady that's on the station now for the morning show he's so freaking irritating and so obnoxious and so pilau in the way she deals with having a normal conversation I'd literally get a headache listening to her voice. My mother didn't raise me to be disrespectful but I'm a customer and a listener for so long I think you need to know you're losing people everyone I talk to makes a comment when I bring up your radio station because of this morning show. You could literally just play music and you would be good before you have these knuckleheads on the radio please bring someone else in before this radio station is no longer. You want to feel like you're actually in Hawaii driving along in the drop top with the tropical breeze in your hair? Turn to KINE. It's like the Hawaiian oldies and traditional music station. You can get a good taste of the melodious nature of the Hawaiian language much of which is accompanied by some sort of stringed instrument such as slack key guitar and/or the ukulele. It's the laid back nature of the melodies that captures the soul of the islands. I can even hear the jingle sung by Robert Cazimero in my head. One of the best things? They're on the interwebs. So, even if it's minus thirty degrees outside in Minnesota, you can dial them up online and feel like you're cruising Waikiki. I am very sad to see that radio stations like Hawaiian 105 now require a subscription. So much for free internet radio. I lived in Hawaii for years and even though I am now on the mainland, this brought me some needed Aloha every day. At least I can find hawaiian music or something close to it on Pandora for free. read more

I used to love this station. Being able to stream it was a great way to bring me back to the islands between actual visits. However, now they have a monthly pay subscription for streaming (if you do not reside in Hawaii). I would gladly make a voluntary contribution to support them, but since you have to stream through a browser, I'd does little good for me on my network radio devices. I have won prizes from this station before but lately the service people there at the desk where I pick up my price we're very cold and not so welcoming. But this latest pickup was a very nice package. I won 4 tickets to see Willie K , two tickets to see lehua Kalima and Sean Pimentel , 4 tickets to the fifth annual summer concert series at Waimea Valley, and a $25 gift certificate to Hawaiian quilt collection. When I went home and looked through the envelope I noticed I was missing to Willie K tickets so I called the office back and the girl there said that the radio station should have never given me 4 tickets only two. So she took out two tickets. I told her the radio station called me back a half an hour after I won the prize to tell me it was for four tickets and not for two tickets therefore she needs to clarify with them but while I was talking she rudely brushed me off by saying all I got to go find out and I have to go check it out and hung up on me. I was so angry I called her back but no answer. She finally called me back verifying yes I was right and wanted me to come back and get them. I told her no way I'm coming all the way back it was her fault so she has to do something about it. So she said she would leave it at will call they're at the Outrigger but lo and behold when we went there last night it was not there and our names were even on the list so I don't know if it's her doing or what but it was very unprofessional. read more

I learned about this station while listening to the morning radio personality, Billy V, on a Hawaiian Airlines flight. I found the music soothing, even if I didn't understand a word. When I got back to NY, I found their stream online and would listen to it while working. When Billy V got a sidekick, Mele Apana, I stop listening for a while because I felt that Mele was trying too hard, but after I couple of months and an email to the station, I tuned back in and found she had adjusted and the two started working better as partners. The only reason I'm not giving KINE 5 stars, is because they just changed their free stream to a pay subscription service. There was no advance notice on the website, Facebook page, or even looking at their twitter. Just one day everything was working fine, then next day you got a message that "Service was unavailable in your area." So if you're not in HI and you want to listen to this station online, you have to pay. read more

I have been listening to 105.1 for a long time because I like Hawaiian music but I no longer listen because it has been bad for about a month - music or talking is somtimes repeated and is very distracting. Maybe they should look into it. I tried to register at the radio station so I could tell them but gave up with too many errors (text wrong was the last one) but don't know what they want and very difficult t to register. This is the only way I found to contact Kine radio - hope they fix it. read more
