I noticed these reviews are WOEFULLY out of date, so here is an update to what the current state of our public radio station, 91.9 KVCR, is all about. 1st...no, I don't work for KVCR! I am a long time listener/donator so, yes, I am biased in that I listen to KVCR frequently and feel I receive value from the experience :-) Very recently, the station made significant upgrades to it's broadcasting infrastructure and now broadcasts in HD format on both Radio and TV...and for some time now it is available in all other traditional formats including live streaming through websites and apps, podcasts, etc. so you can listen to the station anytime, anywhere in the world now. The programing has changed much since then as well. Back with these older reviews, classical music took up most of the hours between around 9pm to 5am. The content now provides up to date news 24 hours a day by providing the BBC through the late evening and early morning hours National and Local news from early morning to late evening along with up to date local news on their website. Certain core news "magazines" like Morning Edition, Here and Now, OnPoint and All Things Considered may run twice daily during the traditional commute hours during morning and evening, check the schedule. Cassie McDuff, a reporter for the Press Enterprise does a great job of reviewing Inland Empire news M-F. All this plus a balanced range of Arts and Entertainment programming like TED talks, RadioLab, MyAwesomeEmpire, IE Economy w/John Husing, CaliforniaReport, ScienceFriday and much, much more. Weekends have some great game shows like WaitWaitDon'tTellMe and so on along with other local programs that are entertaining and relevant. What has not changed is this is public radio. So, during certain times of the year, the station needs to raise money to keep the station going. Cutbacks at the Federal and State level has placed the responsibility of maintaining public radio on it's listeners. A modest, tax deductible pledge of $5 month on the part of all listeners would easily take care of it all, but of course, only a small percentage of listeners offer to pledge so corporate donations, etc. have been key in maintaining the station. As of this posting today, this is a typical weekday listening schedule...note that local programing changes daily.
