I can not recommend this place at all, I found them to be unprofessional, lacked follow through and didn't take responsibility to resolve the issues at hand. The own as a person is a nice guy but as a printer and business owner he is over his head. Look over the pics and I think you will understand where the issues came from. The quantities I ordered where not correct, this was dismissed because he gave me more in another size he felt it made up for being short in the sizes I actually ordered. The printing itself was substandard because the image was not sharp and not centered on the garment. He passed much of this off as being a very difficult process which was never mentioned to me before placing the order. After picking up the order I tried to communicate with him about the issue, he simply ignored most of my communication and did not call me back as he promised he would. When I asked him why he simply said he didn't know what to say. I had to ask him to send me the invoice 3 times and when I requested a refund on the incorrect items he wouldn't go for it. It was very unfortunate because It left me in a bad spot with my customers and when he was provided the opportunity to make it right he didn't and now I am left trying to find another printer. It's a simple operation which I like, because those cost saving get passed down to the customer without affecting the qualty. This review is geared to help those people looking for a quality service. I hope it helps. You the buyer should be aware of a few things. I went there to print shirts for my start-up tee company. I had 8 designs that I needed to print with front sides and tag less labels. Rather than rant about all the problems I experienced, I will simply describe one problem that sums up my experience. It concerns the printing of my tag less labels (behind the neck). I have an unusual sizing convention which required making a small production note on the art file, a simple, one letter notation to make sure that the correct tags were applied to the correct shirts. Nothing complicated. Early on I heard an earful of how their quality and attention to detail set them apart. I believed it. The opposite was true. When the labels were printed, the production note was printed along with the intended artwork. Nearly 700 shirts were printed with an extra, unwanted letter that was intended to avoid mishaps. He never admitted it, even after I paid for it in full. Only when I was pulling a shirt for him to have did I see the mistake. I noticed it immediately. This is attention to detail? All he said was that he will fix it. Earlier in the week we had another print problem which he did admit to and fixed it by replacing 50 or so shirts and reprinting them but this time around was different. That is a huge red flag for anyone considering doing business here. It's clear that no one cares enough about quality to watch what is coming off the press, despite all the double talk about "we do things by hand." Even worse, he knew the mistake was there and he never mentioned it. He didn't even look surprised when I found the mistake. Even if you give him the benefit of the doubt you're still left with the issue of incompetence. So at best, they are incompetent and at worse they are incompetent and dishonest. The fix was simple. All it would take was a touch up gun and some time. Rather than demand the fix to be done later that day (it was a Sunday) I offered to pick up the whole thing on Monday morning. That morning he told me that it should be ready by noon even though he originally told me 11. I got there by 1230 ready to ship the shirts and meet my own deadlines. They weren't done and even worse the smell of the chemicals was obvious. I lost it. At that point I just took the whole thing away and decided to buy a touch up gun and just do it myself. I would have needed to buy one in any case since the touch up they did was sloppy also. "It looks good. You don't even notice it." Wrong. There were missed spots and chemical residue that had to be washed out before I shipped it. I had to clean it up myself but at least it was getting done correctly, even though it was my first time doing it. As I mentioned earlier, I am writing this to help out others who find themselves with similar needs. Here is a short list of "watch outs" if you do decide to do business with Kuya Studio or Above Ink. - Communication with the owner (he goes by three names - Kevin, Koohyar or Kuya) will be challenging. That will become clear when you start emailing or talking on the phone. - Be alert for double-talk. It's my experience that the more someone tries to convince you of something the more they are covering something else up. In the case of my tag less labels, even if they had printed the correct artwork the placement of each was so inconsistent that any claims of "attention to detail" are hard to believe. - If you have a sizable order, try to get a gauge of how busy they are. If they are busy then keep a sharp eye out for your stuff. The busier they are the more your stuff is in danger and the more you will be told that you did something wrong with the art. - If you are particular about colors then watch out for more double talk. When the printing starts you might hear a lot of reasons why you are not getting the color you had hoped for. In my case, I was pressured to rush my approvals to keep them from getting behind on all the other jobs they may have. Sorry but those other jobs shouldn't be my concern. I was told about them anyway again and again. - If he was trying to sneak out nearly 700 shirts with obvious mistakes, can you really trust a company like that? That's over $2000 of printing in addition to the money paid for the blank tees. - Lastly, he actually had the nerve to pressure me about giving them a tip. A tip for a job I was already paying for? I presume it was because they worked the weekend but it was obvious that my job wasn't the only job being done that weekend. Besides, he was asking for the tip even after the tag mistake had been done. Wow. The things that separate the good shops from shops like Kuya Studio and Above Ink are professionalism and service. Keep looking. Ask questions. Expect professionalism. If you get a bad vibe, walk away. There's always someone else to talk to. Learn from my mistakes. Thank you. read more

I came to Kuya Studio a year ago in search of an Artist and printing shop to start my first design for my clothing company. I had interviewed and spoken to a number of other companies before deciding to work with Koohyar, the Owner/Manager of the shop. Since then I have done a total of 5 different designs with the studio throughout the year. Though it took time for the artwork to be finished it was exceptionally done once finished!! Keep in mind I had concepts and images that started completely from scratch that he drew on my behalf. Koohyar is a really talented artist, if you are looking for an artist, talk with him and check out his collection. His drawing skills are top-notch! Along with this, his knowledge of transposing the image onto the shirt is also valuable. There are a number of different printing processes and knowing which one will fit your needs is valuable; his knowledge pays big dividends. This can be very important if you have a complicated design you want to print. As for printing, everything is done by hand, so expect it to take some time. It only goes as fast as humanly possible. The screen printers that I worked with in the past with my designs were really good and their attention to detail was greatly appreciated. For they are the ones who set the placement of the shirt for the screen process and perform the screen-work. Get to know your screen printers at any shop, it helps. Remember screen printing and design work is an art, it requires skill. I know others have voiced their opinion about the shop, the main thing I will tell you is to communicate well with Koohyar what you want to accomplish, for he sees many different clients. Each individual is different and as we all know what we expect to see on paper is not always the same in their mind. I encourage anyone who is looking for a screen printer to find out for themselves if Kuya Studio is a good fit. I have done 5 new designs with Kuya Studio over the year because they were that good!! I can not say enough how amazing Kuya studio is! Their staff is very professional and caters to your absolute needs. We had a fundraiser on a Sunday and got notified by a printing shop 9 days before our event that they could not deliver our 220 t shirts in time. We had placed our order with them months ago. I didn't know what to do and started some net research when I found kuya studio. Not only did they take our order and delivered all shirts in time they also refined the previous design and them look awesome! I kept one of the shirts and to this day the design has not washed off or fainted in color!! Their products are pure quality! Very very pleased!! read more

If you're looking for quality print work, DO NOT go to Kuya Studio!! This place isn't even a printer. Only a middle man who picks up product and delivers to "his printer". Most likely a friend running a heat press out of his garage. How do I know? Personal experience. After multiple phone conversations and an in-person meeting with the owner of Kuya Studio, Koohyar, my business partner and I decided to put place two orders with this mess of a company. Out of approximately 45 pieces, 6 were completely unsellable due to poor printing. White tops had black marks on them (I assume the marks were probably from a dirty press), one top was completely wrecked (it looked like it got stuck on a press), one specialty piece had missing foil print and two pieces weren't event printed straight! When we tried to contact Koohyar regarding a refund for these mistakes (he cleverly stuffs the apparel into a bag so it's all mixed together), he chose to not respond. On the third attempt he told us that this "happens" and we "would not be receiving any refund". This happens? On an order if 46 pieces, 6 were damaged! That's just over 13% loss! What if we ordered 300 pieces? Would we expect to immediate loose 39 pieces simply due to his incompetence? Another warning for customers looking at using Kuya Studio...they claim to "have no minimum" which is a total lie just to gain your business. After printing the first portion of our order, Koohyar attempted to tell me that 12 pieces is equivalent to "no minimum." Only someone stupid would think this, therefore I schooled him that when you are told "no minimum" a real follow through of "no minimum" is expected. Obviously this guy Koohyar has no business skills and should remove himself from the printing business. His lack of knowledge and professionalism (did I mention he saw my wedding ring and said, "Nice ring. Is it real?") make him a sure fire business failure. They were able to turn around the order within 10 days - we were unsure how they would turn out but Kuya were the only ones who could meet our deadline. The t shirts were PERFECT! I printed 2500 shirts for my business they were done perfectly, just what I asked kuya himself, they were done in timely manner as promised And and the prices are incredible. The gentleman was very nice and had a great sense of humor. I would recommend this company to anyone who has a large amount of items that need printed. I feel bad about the previous customer.
