Finally Pain Free, therefore an Outstanding experience... Thank you Dr. 'O'…read more This was my third root canal. The first was a horrible experience; the 2nd I believe the doctor (now retired) diagnosed the wrong tooth since the pain never subsided. As you could imagine, on this visit I was a little reluctant and very skeptical, if not bordering on sarcastic, when Dr. Ibukun O. Olagbemi (AKA Dr. "O") enter the room. I was prepared for war, however Dr. O's bedside manner and soothing tone quickly changed my mood. As I explained my past experiences she spent additional time diagnosing where the pain was originating from. Much to her chagrin it turned out the source of the pain was deep in a tooth that was two teetch removed from where I reported the pain. Over the past two years no one was able to locate the source of this pain. The X-rays did not show anything, and the exterior of the tooth had no defects. Dr. O is very skilled, I was shocked when she indicated she was already done. I enjoyed the dialogue between her and her awesome assistant during the surgery. I had very little pain the days following the surgery. Therefore I needed very little medication for pain relief. If you are fortunate enough she may even serenade you with her beautiful voice as she did me.

I made an appointment with Dr. Henry Rankow. Went today at 9am. Scared to death. Survived the needle stick relatively well. Dr. Rankow took his time injecting the novacaine. He is a super friendly, kind individual. It was a relatively painless procedure. I was done in around 45 mins. It is 9:31 pm now and I've had no pain. I have to go back for a second root canal in another tooth in November and having been there once now, I am much more relaxed about returning. The staff are friendly and his chair side assistant was very kind and knew exactly what the dr was doing at all times and was ready with the equipment and supplies needed in a flash. The cost for the root canal was $650.00. I got a 5% discount for paying by check or cash. Please ask your dentist to refer you to this practice if you need endodontic work.

The doctor and assistant were reassuring and calming. I could virtually have slept through the procedure! I highly recommend them and will always use them as needed for similar procedures.

However, upon arrival I presented my dental insurance "explanation of benefits" and previous receipts as there appeared to be a discrepancy, and dental offices always seem to estimate the customer payment portion when services are rendered. When I presented my question to the front desk attendant she immediately said the person that handles "that" is not here. But, she went on to increase the tone of her voice while attempting to explain the way billing works. I asked her not to raise her voice at me as I simply asked a question. (I was sure to be respectful in my tone and volume as I, too, work in the medical field and understand customers receive varying receipts and EOB's. Also, other customers were in the waiting area and could hear everything.) I simply had a question about my portion of the payment. Another employee standing to the right of the desk attendant heard this exchange and rolled her eyes. So, my only concern is for front area staff to routinely receive customer service training classes and be continually reminded by an office manager how to respond professionally to customers that pay hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars that eventually pay their salary. IMO poor customer service is what harms all businesses and especially the small business owner.

It might seem odd for me to say that my experience during my recent root canal was an enjoyable…read moreone, but the friendliness of Kathy and Karen did a lot towards putting me at ease, both for the procedure, and for the bill. Perhaps the cost of a root canal, an exacting specialty that is best left to endodontists, with their microscopes, treatment rooms and skilled assistants, is the biggest concern of new patients. Rachael and Lisa were both caring and competent; meeting them put me at ease before treatment began. But patients must manage their health insurance themselves. With so many insurers and programs, talk to your health care providers to learn whether they 'participate' with all insurance companies... not just 'accept' payments from all major dental insurers (of course they accept insurance companies money... it's money.) The tricky dental offices who say that they 'accept all insurance', and then send you a bill for the balance are deplorable. Berks Endodontics is up front with everything; Karen went so far as to help me to decide whether they should send the bill to my insurer in the year when they began treatment, or afterwards when the treatment is completed. I don't need to review doctor Bram; he already has dozens of five star reviews. Dentists who jab all over with novocaine and numb your whole face need more practice. Doctor Bram does many difficult root canals every day! They all require novocaine, and my only aftereffect from treatment was discomfort the evening of the surgery, and that only required 500 mg of acetaminophen before bedtime. I ate dinner comfortably six hours after my treatment. That is incredible considering the time a thorough root canal treatment takes. (I don't really have zero friends. Lol.)
