We were referred to this local dive by many of our fellow resort guests. People that have been coming to the Cayman Islands for over 25 years and this is still a must for them. A foodie, like myself, had to explore!! The name was Kurt's Corner, however, the new name is "The Caboose"-- Same cuisine. So, it is nothing fancy, it's an open spot but does have a steel roof in case of rain. Like most other local spots u have the random cats caressing your feet and legs and a rooster or two pecking around freely (although they are special on the menu). My first visit I got the ox tail. They were very flavorful but not that meaty... my next visit I had to go for tthe dish that everyone had referred me to...The Crispy Grouper with Coconut Curry sauce is to die for.... I mean literally die... if they were open this morning I'd be sitting on my flight with a double order right damn now.... OK My son had the small order of fried chicken his first time which he said was OK... He is the fried chicken connoisseur... The second trip he got a grilled cheese and kept it simple... no complaints on both meals. I also had a slice of the cherry cheesecake and to my surprise it was a New York style with that thick graham cracker crust on bottom and back and it actually tasted like a homemade cheesecake... Delicious don't sleep on that like I did my first visit. All in all this is a staple and truly will lead me back to that Island just for that grouper dish... mm mmm mmmmm this spot is located on the east end of the island but even if I was staying in Georgetown on the other side of the island it would definitely be worth the almost hour drive. One other thing I loved is that the locals eat here and are constantly stopping by to pick up food to go as well...

After a splunking expedition I knew we would be hungry and narrowed it down to two nearby places. After our local guide told us he was going to pick up lunch from Kurt's it pretty much sealed the deal. Kurt's Corner is right next to Cave Bar, so you're able to get your drink on from next door which is perfect. Menu items were written up on a board, and we were given a full menu as well. I got the impression that things on the board would come out much faster, so we just went with that and didn't even look at the menu. Of course we had to try the Conch Fritters (ehhh, Bahamian's do this better), Jerk Chicken (realllly good) and the Coconut Curry Grouper (really really good). Service was fast and friendly, and I really enjoyed the fact that both tourists and locals were eating here, always a good sign. For less than $30USD this was a great lunch spot!

Great local food along with great price. This was the second cheapest place I ate on the island and the first was Burger King. I got the coconut curry grouper and it was great. I liked the conch fritters (second time I had them and I not a huge of them all together so me lifting them means it is good). My wife got the fried chicken and she liked it but they had a sweet taste the kept building up and after a while she stopped eating it. I think if she had gotten one of the fish dishes she would have been happier. I would have given them 4 starts but because of the price I gave 5. The name has changed from Kurt's Corner to Caboose so keep that in mind.

If you are looking for white tablecloths and fancy plate servings, this is not the place for you. This is a small local restaurant serving caymanian style food. Arrive here and you will get a protein, a starch, a vegetable, and all the little seasonings and fixings that come with island style food. Nothing pretentious. No reductions or deconstructed this and that. Just good island food. ***The prices are VERY FAIR here compared to many other restaurants on the island. So if you are looking for good local food, ample portion sizes, without the high $$$ price tags at most places on your resort and tourist areas, come here, kick back, and enjoy!!! Ambiance - The "restaurant" is located right off Frank Sound Road, direclty behind a local bar named Waterboys. The structure is literally a tin roof pavillion/tent (this a sound structure with electricity and operating ceiling fans) with a bunch of wooden tables and chairs and WAIT, the tables have table cloths!! There is no AC. Hell there are no walls. But there's a full kitchen and chef ready to prepare anything on the menu. Service - There was one service lady here during our visit. She does not necessarily say hello or welcome you. You can choose wherever you would like to sit. But note that she has the most important job here. Taking your order and bringing out your hot and fresh food! Note that no one is ever in a rush here so be patient!!! Food - We began our order with a coconut shrimp and a fried bread appetizer. Imagine this, they used real coconut that you can actually taste in all its sweet nutty glory!! The shrimp were a good size, lightly breaded and then flash fried to perfection. The fried bread literally tasted like moist Beignets without the powdered sugar. There was a hint of garlic in the bread and was appropriately served with soft garlic butter. Our entrees were also pleasant to the palate as we ordered a fried grouper filet plate, a fried Snapper filet plate, and 2 entrees of the coconut curry grouper. All plates came with coconut rice and peas, steamed veggies, and sweet plantains. The fried fish platters came with a lightly seasoned batter that went well with the rice and peas. The coconut curry grouper (also fried) was served with a yellow curry and coconut milk sauce that should be sopped up with the amazing fried bread! Drinks - If you do not prefer alcohol, try the homemade Lemonade!! Sweet and tart and quite refreshing. Now that there is no alcohol served at Kurt's. However, a server from the local bar next door (Waterboys) will come and take your order for alcoholic beverages, which is a bonus. The bartenders from Waterboys spared no expense on the rum!! We fully enjoyed our mudslides and rum punch! I recommend you do the same!

Kurt's corner a.k.a. The Caboose was excellent. Down home Cayman feel with very good food. It's situated next to a Dance club / bar, which is where our alcohol came from which was interesting, but the system worked out well. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. It's a small restaurant in an enclosed patio, but it was very cozy and comfortable. And for the island, the prices were very reasonable. read more

Kurt's is now The Caboose. And the food is better then ever. The outdoor eating area is now totally enclosed in screens so never any bugs. Its a local favorite and its easy to miss when driving by, but it is behind The Barn Bar. Its very close to the Frank Sound Rd and Queens Highway intersection. We went three nights during our week's stay. We had the delicious Cayman Style Grouper, the Coconut Curry Grouper, the conch fritters, the fish sandwich, the fish wrap, and the best desserts in the key lime pie and the cheesecake. Every single dish was delicious. Easily the best spot to eat seafood in North Side and East end. Just dont expect fancy, this casual place stands on the quality of the food alone. read more

Gross, dirty, hot, they say they are vegetarian friendly and they don't have anything vegetarian on the actual menu, and staff is extremely unfriendly. read more

This is the hole in the wall you want to find. Attentive staff. Pick your food wisely. Fish and chips great and cheap. Conch very good. Beans and rice a little dry. Plantains overdone. Great value and a great time. read more

First word of caution: bring bug spray or use the OFF they have at the table because you will need it! We couldn't really enjoy our meal because the mosquitos or whatever little biting bugs kept landing all over us. I could have contracted Zika, I'm Not sure yet. Our waitress was not the most welcoming, but what do you expect from a little restaurant hidden behind a water boyz store with tarp sides? Food rundown: conch fritters were pretty good. They are supposedly their specialty. My mom and I both go the house pasta with white wine sauce... mine with shrimp and hers with chicken- both decent pastas meals My husband got the fish and chips and was not impressed. My brother got a burger and said it was over cooked. My dad got grilled shrimp and liked his meal. We got dessert to go because we couldn't stand the bugs. The cherry cheesecake and key lime pie were actually really good.... the custard topped biscuit thing was gross. It looked like cat barf and the biscuit was hard. Positives: VERY cheap compared to other restaurants on the island. Negatives: they do not sell alcohol and the bugs made dinner unenjoyable. I actually left early to wait in the car. I wouldn't recommend. Spend the extra money for a restaurant away from the bugs and with patrons! When we walked in there was no one there! That should have been the clue! read more

Had the coconut curry grouper and the turtle stew. My only disappointment was finding the habanero pickled vegetable on only the two large tables after I finished my meal. Otherwise, the place was clean, the service was good, everything was beautiful and very tasty. read more

Food was over cooked. Fishy over cooked fish, undercooked fritters. Cocktails were ok. Soup good if more seasoned. Would not return. Would not recommend. read more

A friend told me about this place; great hole in the wall restaurant with amazing food. The coconut grouper and shrimp were some of the best I've ever had and I live in New England. The bar next door sells drinks and their mojito was spot on, not too sweet, not too bland. The staff were all very friendly and the place wasn't crowded at all, granted we came in early, but a lot of locals dropped by for takeout. read more

First off, this is not in Padre island Texas but in Grand Cayman. Secondly it is no longer known as Kurt's Korner but as The Caboose. It is an open air restaurant so make sure you have bug repellent. Food is good caymanian fare. Grouper, mahi mahi, snapper, etc served steamed, blackened or fried. Generous potions with rice and beans, vegetables, fried plantain. It's byob or you can order drinks from the bar next door. Conch steak on the menu as well. Most items about $10 Cayman (12.50 USD) relatively inexpensive for Grand Cayman. read more

My 4 star should be 5 star review is in the context of most Grand Cayman eat spots. The food and prices are much better than many other places. It's not a fancy place or fancy food - just good basics. I go for things island style but everyone in our groups have been happy with the sandwiches and other items. Be aware that a fish curry will probably be fried fish. Very good but just a heads up if you're counting calories or can't have too much fried food. The place is really 3. The liquor store, bar and Kurt's in back. This is a good stop if 7 mile, Rum Point and east end are all you know of the island. read more

Stopped at Kurt's for dinner. The four of us all had great meals. Conk fritters for app were good. Coconut curry grouper was a hit. All good. Informal outdoor seating. Not fancy. Good service, friendly. read more

This is the best food on the whole island!! The coconut curry grouper is amazing! The conch fritters and coconut shrimp are so addicting. This is authentic home cooked Caribbean food for an amazing price. Thank you Kurt's corner. I shall miss you when I go home to Maine. I wish I could bring you with me:) read more
