I was brought to the hospital late in the evening of April 23, 2021 in need of open-heart surgery…read moreto replace my aortic valve. This was a comple shock as I typically walk/jog 7 miles a day. I had contracted sepsis poisoning and my aortic valve had been attacked by this cruel twist of fate. The care of the ICU nurses was absolutely memorable as their daily concern and efficiency took me through my darkest days. It would take a week of having the sepsis fought by massive doses of antibiotics before the surgery could be performed. As hard as I tried to be a patient patient, the daily annoyances of the typical hospital soundtrack of beeps, bells, announcements, etc made the days incredibly long and my attitude less-than-stellar. Yet throughout the days each new nurse would introduce themselves and ask if I needed anything to be made more comfortable. Their upbeat and positive vibes were actually quite uplifting. My life was put in the capable hands of Dr. Adam Arnofsky, MD, Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Englewood Hospital. His calm resolve in our discussions in the critical days leading-up to the replacement of my aortic valve gave me an inner peace that is impossible to describe. I asked for nothing more than his best, and he simply said "this is what I do, I'll see you after I'm done." And then he gave me a fist bump. I was never a fan of superheroes as a kid, reserving that label for Mom. However, this guy is the epitome of the term and I'll never forget his laser focus that morning as he peered over his surgical mask. This photo I found from the Englewood Hospital website perfectly encapsulates my memory of that morning. (Credit to the unknown photographer). Thank you Dr. Arnofsky and the relentlessly-dedicated staff of Englewood Hospital. I'm continuing my rehab at home and feeling better every day. Trust the process and trust the pros! PS: as a side note...I was on oxygen for quite some time and one evening, about 1:30am the staff professional came in for a treatment. I asked him how long he had been working there and he said 47 years! I asked if this is what he always wanted to do and he replied, "no, I wanted to be in a band as lead singer." He then took a seat as the treatment progressed and told me he does sing today with a band at some small gigs. I asked what he typically sang and he launched into "Under The Boardwalk." He started to sing the opening and I actually joined in with my limited lung capacity for the most unexpected duet situation I could have imagined. Great fun during some tough times!

My wife received great treatment, however, the payment must be mailed to their NY office. DO NOT…read moreMAKE ANY PAYMENTS THROUGH THE MAIL!!! My credit card was compromised by mailing information to that address. How archaic is this? in addition, you should not be placing checks in the mail. Postal workers have been stealing checks and bank accounts have been hacked as a result. I am 72 years old but this business must modernize. There is no way to make online payments with this business. I make all payments online and will make no exceptions anymore. I am very disappointed in their treatment of payments and disregard for safeguarding people's finances. Bob E.

Many years ago, medical clinics would ask for our social security number in order to get treated…read more Insurance companies also used it as a patient's identifier. It became illegal for clinics and insurance companies to request a social security number because many were leaked, hacked or even sold by medical clinics, and put their patients at risk of identity theft. Now the less ethical clinics are now demanding to scan your driver's license to keep it in their files in order to treat a patient. Driver's license information can be used to commit identity theft, so that's the same problem as with the social security number. Decent clinics ask to view the driver's license to confirm patients' identity but do not demand a copy of it. This clinic REFUSES TREATMENT if you don't agree to let them scan your driver's license!!! They DO NOT CARE if it is putting you at great financial risk as it was the case with social security numbers. This clinic is rude, unethical, and very disrespectful. Many other places will not ask to scan your driver's license. Do not encourage clinics that are either very clueless about how easily data is stolen at clinics, or they don't care, or they sell your data for profit. Be aware that clinics have to comply with HIIPA regulation, but driver's license information is not protected health information under HIIPA, therefore clinics can do whatever they want with it, that's why it's a very bad practice to give them this information, and ethical clinics that respect their patients do not ask for it. I refuse to deal with such unethical clinics, and if many of you do the same, they'd have no choice but to change their practice.
