We are a training center and train professionals, teachers, and band directors. We even re-train band directors to do their jobs easier and better.
We carry, teach and repair:
Saxophones, flutes, clarinets, oboes, bassoons and recorders.
Trumpets, cornets, flugelhorns, french horns, trombones, bass trombones, tenor horns, baritones, euphoniums and tuba.
History
Established in 1968.
Mr. Heisig started teaching in 1963 and opened Kurt Heisig Music in 1968. Since May 2011 the store is now located at 512 Polk St, Monterey, California 93940.
Many fine brands of instruments have been introduce to the Silicon Valley and Monterey Bay areas since 1968. Dozens of fine pros have been our customers, a number of them growing up musically in our stores. Students should not think that this business is for pros only. We have taught very young students to students in their ' 80 ' s out to enjoy the rewards of music.
Mr. Heisig started the business in order to have better quality products available for his students that they might learn better and have more fun doing it. Along the way he met many manufacturers and top professional players and teachers that helped refine the standards of the business, and he also helped to improve their products or playing. Many a pro after playing a Heisig Overhaul, or HEISIGtm instrument or mouthpiece, has remarked: "I just didn't know!"

Kurt Heisig grew up south of Boston and studied with Al Anthony and Ray Pizzi on saxophone. In California he went on to study sax with other teachers, and also clarinet with Clement Hutchinson, flute with Joan Butterfield and Alvin Cromwell and Brass Teaching with Carl Leach and Dr Claude Gordon, both of whom taught at Kurt Heisig Music. Mr Heisig has been affiliated with famed instrument designer Ralph Morgan and oboist Professor Stephen Adelstein. He has enthusiastically helped people from major soloists and symphony and jazz players to young beginners to get the greatest joy possible out of fine instruments, mouthpieces, reeds or lessons.
His playing experiences range from symphonic bands and symphonies to chamber groups, and combo work. He is a professional conductor, yet has played gospel tv and dixieland. He is a classical soloist, and expert on ragtime playing and interpretation.
In recent years he was asked to redesign an industry that had largely lost focus and understanding
