Warning: Predatory Billing and Financial Negligence…read more I am leaving this review to warn others about the unprofessional and predatory billing practices at A Lifetime of Smiles. After completing several visits in February 2025, I paid a total of $1,669.00 in person at the time of service. Despite these large payments, the office never sent me a single paper bill or electronic statement. The first "notice" I received of any balance was a casual text message sent at 4:00 PM the day before a scheduled appointment in April 2025, claiming I owed a "heads up" amount of $946.00. When I immediately asked for a breakdown, they waited until the next morning to tell me $829.00 was a "prior balance" from insurance adjustments. They went completely silent for 11 months, only to send this unverified debt to a collections agency in March 2026. After doing the math myself using my Cigna EOBs and bank records, their numbers are mathematically impossible: Verified Over-Collection: On February 12, 2025, my insurance EOB stated my responsibility was only $465.00. However, the office charged me $712.00 at the window--an over-collection of $247.00 for a single visit. Missing Credits: According to my insurance, my total responsibility for all February visits was $1,742.60. Since I already paid $1,669.00, my actual balance should have been roughly $73.00, yet they are hounding me for $829.00. This office appears to either have a complete failure in their accounting department or is intentionally "balance billing" patients for amounts the insurance company has already adjusted. To jump straight to collections a year later without ever providing an itemized invoice is a predatory and unprofessional way to treat patients. I have filed a formal complaint with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) and the Attorney General. Avoid this practice unless you want to be blindsided by fraudulent "balances" a year after your treatment.

They are great about payment plans. Helped us get the max benefit out of my insurance and refunded the extra that they paid when out plans switched. I was the only one in the waiting room and upon further observing I noticed how tidy and inviting the space was. Light tan flooring, lots of light gray and black decor. I thought it interesting they had Zum natural soap products on display in one area, so right away it smelled so fresh and clean. I was called into the back by the very pleasant hygienist Erin. It was a very comfortable and uplifting conversation throughout the visit. She addressed my concerns and discussed dental health history, seems very knowledgable. The practice does not accept my insurance but I was aware ahead of time. Since I was being mindful of extra costs outside of the exam, I had just the bite wing X-rays done. Erin did a detailed exam of my gums, a deep cleaning of my teeth and teeth polishing. She took her time to do the cleaning and I appreciate her thoroughness. Dr. Ghafoor then did a quick exam after the cleaning. Dr. Ghafoor is so bubbly and kind, a great chair side manner. All of the staff here are so professional. I have never been this thrilled and satisfied with a dental treatment. In fact, so impressed that I rushed back to write this Yelp review.

But the made me feel comfortable. When the doctor did the shot to numb me i didn't feel anything. I mean no pain from the needle. It was great because that part hurts. But not this time. They know my whole family and when I called to get my records transferred Mary asked how my sisters were doing. The staff there is awesome (I was bummed when Ethel retired). The waiting room is nice with magazines, a few toys for kids, and a clean bathroom. I don't really know much about dentistry, but I didn't understand why people didn't like going to the dentist until I went to a different one in Chicago. Dr. Krabill was really good whenever I got a filling or teeth pulled - the novacaine shot really just felt like a pinch and then no other pain. When I got a filling in Chicago, I've never had that much pain at the dentist before - and when I told her she looked at me like "of course it's going to hurt" (this was NOT Krabill's, this was in Chicago, just to be clear.) In terms of pricing I honestly have no idea as my parents handled that. If you can get in to see him (I thought at one point he wasn't able to take any more patients) it is very highly recommended!
