This is no effing joke this Kum & Go kicks some serious gas station patootie. Not only is this…read moreestablishment quick and convenient, it has one of the most friendly staff members I have ever had the pleasure of becoming an awkward, I only see you when I buy alcohol or a casual pop but we talk and youve seen me at my worst, friends. Her name is Penny, Jenny, Maddie, and any other name she decides to slap on her tag every time she changes shifts. She rocks my socks. Another beautiful soul I have had the pleasure of encountering is the security man who works there on the weekends. No exaggeration he has actually seen me at my worst. This is a college town with nothing and I mean NOTHING else to do besides get shitfaced on the weekends so naturally, the people that work the late shifts see some unmentionable things. HOWEVER, the incident I am about to explain is mentionable because it shows just how awesome and helpful the staff is. Iowa State celebrates VIESHEA (RIP) in late May and we go hard in the mother fuckin paint. The Tuesday of VIESHEA we got a little aggressive (the $1 tacos and equally as cheap pitchers of beer at Es Tas really get ya goin) and things escalated quickly. A series of unfortunate events led me into one of the most personal encounters I have ever had with a floor. I layed down on the floor and the security man looked at me and said "maam you need to get up" I said "I know" and I got off the floor. It was one of the most touching encounters I have ever had. He changed my life. Penny witnessed this event. Kum & Go has seen some things and they just dont give a flying frick frack. Their gas is fine. Also the food is decent. Don't trust Will Lomax's review it actually is a whore house.

I come in for gasoline (premium is cheaper in Iowa due to the home grown ethanol content) or health snacks (if there is such a thing), but avoid the coffee or any sweet rolls. In Ames, I notice the Hy-Vee brand in several places. There are 2 grocery stores at opposite ends…read moreof the Lincoln Highway, and associated Liquor Stores and Gasoline Stations. There's also this Drug Store, which looks to be part of a yet-to-be realized development initiative at and around the old Train Station. Gayle was at a Salon at the Train Station getting her nails done. After all, my fabulous wife must mind the beauty details! However, with the Iowa humidity, she would probably go for shorter hair if we actually lived here. Since this takes time, I decided to walk down Main Street and look around. After walking around the Train Station and admiring the architecture (and the safety fence near the tracks), I first wandered into Hy-Vee Drugstore and for some air conditioned relief. This place is a lot larger than it looks from the outside. They have a nice selection of the usual stuff, plus gifts and wine/beer. I ended up buying a padded wine holder to later (and successfully) take back a bottle of Templeton Rye Whiskey back to Iowa. I'll probably be back the next time I'm in town for any travel-related supplies or to just kill a little time.

I get my prescriptions at Hy-Vee Drugtown. I like that the lines are shorter here. I can get every vitamin here and expert help from the pharmacists on which to choose. I mean, this is not life changing but I can avoid the lines at other places and receive decent service.
