Indian food is either a love it or not for many people. The spices can be very polarizing for taste buds. For me, I'm a huge fan and love the different contrasting and sense awakening flavours of a good Indian meal. Here at Kuljit the food is exceptional. On my visit I sampled the vegetarian Thali, some pakora and pampadams. Everything was on point. It was so good that I ordered another veggie thali to go. This was a bit of a mistake on my part as I should have ordered it when we placed the original food order. Receiving my to go thali was a bit slow as the place gets busy at 6pm supper hour. Order early or you may wait a while!

Ville saint Laurent is my new foodie playground. And I was thankful for when my colleague introduced me to this Indian resto over a lunch break. It's located in a strip mall complex with plenty of parking. The resto is very traditional with old fashioned pictures that don't match and TV screens airing old 90s Bollywood movies. You know this place is going to be authentic with such a vibe. We reserved for a lunch spot which was a great idea, since it got packed pretty quickly. For food there was quite a variety, I ordered the chana samosa as an app, equivalent of a chick pea samosa salad (4/5) for 4.50$ this was very good, more traditional then others I have had-with soaked chick peas and a very light mint chutney to top. Good for 2 people. As a main, I ordered the butter chicken (3/5) 11$ with some tandoori naan -1.50$ knowing the owners are Punjabi as this is a staple dish from that part of India. For the portion it's pretty standard at most Indian restaurants, served in a silver pot, the sauce was nice and creamy, my only complaint is they use red meat. Most places will give you white meat/chicken breast for this price tag . I personally feel it changes the flavour profile with red meat, I wouldn't charge 11$ for it but less. The naan was good. I also had a mango shake (5/5-take the cousin of the lassi - made with a milk base instead of yogurt, lighter and not as heavy ). When I saw my colleagues order the thali for 12$ , this was probably the best choice for bang for your buck and most appropriately priced. You get chickpea curry, butter chicken can be requested for a 1$ extra, salad, rice and bread. I also LOVED THE FACT:They include a carrot based pickle chutney on the side which really heightens their authenticity to my 4 stars. I asked the owner and she was so sweet to bring some and raw onion slices (traditionally eaten with Indian food) at no extra cost. I can understand why people come here so often, a 15 year owned family business that keeps true to the art of Indian cuisine deserves more than one visit in my book.

Butter chicken and naan at Kuljit!

Kuljit is that hole in the wall you tell yourself you're better than, until of course, you actually eat there and realize how wrong you were; this place is phenomenal and they're serving up some of the best Indian food in the city! That's what happened to me. I was put off by the ugly decor and the scratched up, stainless steel dishes, however, upon trying their food,... let's just say my expectations were blown out of the park. The food is incredible, specifically their butter chicken and vegetable pakoras! The server, presumably the wife to the operation, is sweet and really takes care of you. The cook, again assuming it's the husband, makes fantastic food. And that's all there is to it. True Indian food at an amazing price.

Cause' you had a bad day, you're taking one down, you order takeout from Kuljit just to turn it around. Seriously, every time I order for takeout at this little gem my day becomes a good day no matter what. The dishes aren't light on the spices, exactly how Indian food should be - spicy and unforgiving. If you get butter chicken then you'll wonder why the same dish at other Indian restaurants aren't as good. When someone tells you to try butter chicken at x y z you'll tell them "well...Kuljit India does it better." Do also try their fish pakoras. Light and fresh accompanied with contrasting bold sauces - heaven. Amazing cheap Indian food. You can't go wrong with this place.

It was my first time trying Indian food and wasn't disappointed at all!! My boyfriend suggested I start with the lentil soup and it was bomb. No complaints. For the main dish we got a thali of curry chicken lentils rice and salad. The chicken was amazingly tender well cooked the lentils with the naan bread delicious and the bread is amazing great texture not dry and soft.
