It's supposed to be Classic Rock, but I get offended over what they consider "Classic." They say that they'll play anything, but when I call up and request some polka, they just laugh. Sigh. With all the commercials that they play on here, I feel like I hear more yammering than music. Additionally, it seems that the commercials are louder than the music. I tuned them out.

He helps bring back many wonderful memories of the music, parties and dances of the 60's. He shares great tidbits of information about the bands, singers and what was really going on back in the day. Tuning in to any of his programs is a real treat. The monthly Gonzaba breakfasts, the superdances, and other events are well planned, well attended and lots of fun. On a scale of 1-10 Henry Pepsi Penas shows and events are a 15+ and then some.

Radio Jalapeno! Conjunto Proud!…read more Tejano Owned! This is a great place to get all the latest squeeze boxin' in South Texas. This radio station plays all the Tejano and Conjunto hits! They rock it 24/7, but I think it might be online, and available at 99.9 FM or 1540 AM on the radio waves. I haven't been able to tune it in on smart speakers, which is inconvenient, but they still rock the Flaco Jiminez and Selena harder than any other radio station on the planet. They're the whole jalapeno! You can call them up and make requests! Be sure to check out the Pancho Pistolas Show in the mornings. There's so much accordion squeezin' on this station! It's awesome.

Now of course the line up varies as far as entertainment value. In the AM. we have Andy Everette and Peter Burns with The Morning Drive. Andy is a staple on our local airwaves mainly because he's dull and has a face made for radio. Peter won't be here much longer because guys that good looking always keep moving up and usually wind up on television. Does anyone even remember Kim Fischer? Dan Patrick and Jim Rome follow for the next five hours as the varsity squad. If you don't know those names than you're not reading this anyway. Locally again at 3pm with sports talk SA and Mike Taylor who seems to share most of the same opinions as me so he must be brilliant. Technically there is an hour of talking Cowboys before this show but that's just an opportunity for porch ridden banjo players to use the town telephone. Then comes the hip hop laden Sports Grind at 6 which is a grammatical nightmare. Hide the women and English teachers. After that is another national crew Petros and Money. Solid comedy here folks! That's the line up as I hear it, beyond that I'm usually at home and I didn't buy a 57 inch HDTV to sit at home listening to the radio.

He brags about how little sports he watches and he doesn't lie, because he knows NOTHING about sports. On top of that, he's not the least bit entertaining. On the other hand, if you like Mike Taylor as much as Mike Taylor likes Mike Taylor, he's great. Walter Pasacrita in the morning is good, but they need to get rid of Andy Everitt who is another know nothing. Walter seems to dislike Andy as much as I do, so hopefully something will happen. And 1250 is just as bad, the show they have to compete with Taylor is atrocious, unless you like to hear 50 year old guys talk about 20 year old waitresses who BTW, you can't see, because this is radio.

They never play…read morethe 60's music anymore, like The Beatles, Beach Boys, Mamma's & Pappa's, Johnny River's, Paul Simon, The list of artists & songs just goes on & on. I'm just going to say I don't enjoy it like I use to. That's the sad truth. In the 80's it was everything you could ask for. Now its changed forever. Its not real bad. They still got some good songs. But would you actually call something from the mid 80's or early 90's oldies? I wouldn't. Not quite. Loved Kono at one time. & still listen to it today. Just hoping to hear at least one of the songs I use to hear. & if they play any of those songs its mostly on the weekends when count down the greatest hits or whatever. It'll never be the same. I'm sorry to say.

KLRN relies on viewers like you for their funding, and doesn't display any commercials. KLRN gives non-biased news and a whole host of programming for all ages. Keep an eye out for their annual Blazing Gavels event. It's a fund raiser to help support their great programming. They auction off a whole long list of prizes for a wonderful cause.

I would love to give this station a wonderful recommendation, but I can't. They've got some…read moreexcellent programs, but their tech and member support is just not there for their customers, which can get really frustrating. It took 5 days for me to get help with getting my account and app up and running. They don't return phone calls, or promptly, if they do. It can be days before they call you back, and they are only available M-F, until 5 pm. Have a problem in the early evening and you'll wait until the next day. Problems on Friday or over the weekend, and you'll be on your own until Monday or the next working day, longer if you're having to leave messages. As for the programs, they're wonderful, but there's an undetermined amount of time (30 sec to over a minute) of a frozen screen for the ad before it begins. It's really annoying, and they "don't know what's going on with that." They still haven't told me I'd there's an ad-free subscription, but I'm guessing there's not.

14 Aug 2023 Since…read moreretirement, I look for volunteer opportunities. Owl Radio provides live and recorded radio broadcasts to those folks who are blind or otherwise visually-impaired. They access the broadcasts through a provided special receiver, the website or the Owl Radio app. I was trained today in the art of the live broadcast. There are two studios: one for live broadcasts, the other where recordings can be made and played later. Recordings can be of magazines, book reviews, sports, the topics can be endless. I observed and then they asked if I would read a couple of newspaper articles. Hell,yeah! The Express-News is read live from 9 - 11am. Prior to 9am, the team had already cut and divvied up the articles to the team members. A team of two reads the first hour, then a second team reads the second hour. I was with team two. These ladies have been a team for about four years, so, so I was learning from veterans. They alternate articles, so no one is reading constantly. I read the Heloise column and a San Antonio Story about a local teacher. It was a rush! Gerri actually stated on air that I was new and did a great job. Very humbling and appreciated. I am now an official live on-air substitute! I will do some recordings from home in the meantime. This is a very noble organization providing such a needed service.
