KRS Hair Studio is my joint! I finally found "the barber" that I've always wanted. He hooks it up exactly the way I want it done each and every time. Was suggested to come here from a friend of mine and no regrets for listening to them. What I love most is the ease of making an appointment and being able to have an appointment. Doing the whole walk in thing can be miserable. Instead I go right online and make that appointment for a precision cut. Come right in, wash the hands and phone off and also these days you must wear your mask! Still get the same great service as pre-COVID times despite the new "fashion" requirements. Kris and his team are friendly and just do an all-around great job with the service and the atmosphere. This is the shop! I'm visiting from out of town and wanted to find a place to pamper myself - I had been trying to get my eyebrows done back home for a while. My cousin recommended this place and after reading reviews I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. I had an excellent experience with Kim - she was so personable and did a great job. I inquired about the eyelash extensions and their technician was fully booked but her and her technician went out of their way to squeeze me in before my trip ends. Had my first experience at KRS Hair studio today after reading great reviews here on Yelp! I have been researching good quality waxing salons for my first Brazilian wax and was drawn to KRS due to its close location to my home and the great reviews. The salon itself is really nice and inviting. The staff was really nice when I arrived and kindly instructed me to wash my hands before waiting for my appointment. The covid safety precautions are good as well, everyone masked and social distances. I was very nervous but Kim was very calming and professional during the entire time I was there. She was empathetic and made sure to walk me through every step before she did it. She was also really easy to talk to and friendly. Afterwards she was very good at explaining post-wax instructions and recommendations for skincare between waves. I definitely recommend KRS for waxing and I will be back! read more

The BEST wax I have EVER had! I travel a lot so I've had waxes in many different places but I almost wish I was staying longer than what I am just because of this wax. I have 2 more months here and I will definitely be going back one more time and if I can fit in a third wax I will! I have had waxes where the pain was unbearable and I almost had to call it quits but the wax here was ridiculously easy and barley painful. The lady was wonderfully nice and she made sure that I knew when the more painful pulls were coming. She made sure I knew all the things I needed to avoid after a wax and all of the after wax good practices. Would recommend to my best friend if she lived in the area but I am recommending to anyone else who needs the service. read more

I'm doing a general reassessment of my Hair Salon reviews after gaining a more complete understanding of the competition in this area. I stopped by 7 places, was seated at 6, and went back a second time to my top-3. First impressions ranked Robert Laurence in Shorewood first, but after considering value and the amount of fun I have here, KRS Hair Studio gets a bump. This is exactly what you're looking for in a cozy community barber shop, and yet they offer an extensive range of services for anyone's needs. People show up with no appointment and just hang out chatting for an hour, but they also take appointments if you so desire. At many other places, it's either walk-in only or if you haven't scheduled a week in advance you're out of luck. Why has KRS figured it out better than anyone? Chris is a great conversationalist. I'm not from around here, and he gave me so much blunt yet funny insight into school systems, social situations, and neighborhoods that I regret not learning before I bought a home. The haircut itself was right up there with the beauty of Robert Laurence and M Salon, but at about half the price. I'm perplexed by the search function online. Regardless of whether I'm on a client's computer on the south side, my PC on the east side, or my mobile device on the north side, there is a gaping hole in Riverwest. This place should be at the top of all hits. To make a long story short, I spent the last year growing my hair in and letting salons do their best. I wish I could have tried everyone, but I'm making an economic decision to deny these flowing locks to the world by breaking out my clippers again. My final rankings: 1. This salon has a great vibe, and it's in an excellent location! There's lots of windows, coffee and popcorn, R&B music, and (silent) black & white movies for ambiance. It is also black-owned and operated by a husband and wife duo. Awesome!! Long overdue for a cut and searching for a new salon home, I introduced myself to KRS on New Year's Eve. I got a nice, simple cut* from a lovely woman. When my significant other was looking for a drastic change last month, we wandered in one night and talked with the owner. He was warm and encouraging and put my sig-o at ease. The cut itself was a wonderful experience, and the owner gave us a great deal since we were donating the hair. I've known Lena Cole from different events but now I can say that I know her from her stylist skills! Not knowing what I wanted exactly, Lena sat me down, asked me a few questions as to what I was trying to achieve with my hair, colors that I liked, etc...and BOOM! I got a great cut easy to maintain and a great color for a price that wasn't as bad as I thought I was going to have to pay. Very reasonable for this (what I call) upscale salon. The owners Kim and Chris were there working along side of everyone. From waxing, to hair styling, nails & make-up; this is now my One-Stop-Beauty-Shop...no need to go anywhere else. Noticed this salon as I walked my dog one day, so I thought I'd give it a try since it's right up the street from my house. SO glad I did! Everyone was very nice and I felt very comfortable. The atmosphere was very nice and chill and the decor was beautiful. I came here a couple years ago for hot oil treatment and a trim. This is one of the best African American Hair salons in Milwaukee. My stylist was really good.The atmosphere was really nice they had music playing. I can't remember her name. She used Carol's Daughter products on my hair. -LUVVVED IT. After she was done, I found out that I had left my wallet at home. I left my ID, and she allowed me to go back home and get some money and pay. It's a little pricey but its worth it. read more

I have a fun weekend planned and party in Chicagoland area planned tomorrow, so after a couple weeks of remodeling my Moms house. I wanted to put a bit of an extra effort to meet with "old friends". After reading "great reviews" from here of course :), I decided to give call (last week) for an appointment for a deep condition + style and mani and pedi. I walked in and was greeted politely and shown my Stylist, Lena Cole. While waiting I the shop i looked around it was very creative, with pics of employees and family members and a great view of Locust and the cross on the other side. When I was seen by Lena, she was kind and asked about products used, what "I love and hate" about my hair (you know we can go on about that right)...lol, and if interested in trying a fun color. I'm a bit reserved when it comes to my hair unfortunately for a few bad stylist before, so I was a bit nervous while taking everything in. It was my turn to get my deep condition treatment! She took me to a area toward and open are toward the back of the and examined my hair as she washed me with Tea Tree conditioner, as we discussed more natural hair care products (while giving me tips) to maintain healthy hair--she showed me products conveniently for sale. I liked her, very focused, professional, but very approachable and positively light. Two people joined us at the shampoo bowls and chimed in the conversation and turned out they were the owner(s) (Chris and Kim). It was comfortable as we all chatted and laughed. Lena finished me up and sat me under the dyer and walked me through some color books and asked me about me making me comfortable. I appreciated this, because i can be kinda nerdy with some things, but hair isn't one of them...lol. I got a call and after I finished up, I was greeted by Nail Tech/Massage Therapist, Oahn asking "was I ready for my pedi"? I said "sure" and she was so patient and soft, until I joking mentioned, she is going to have to "hold me down..."I'm ticklish"!!! and never can sit still..sorry. I lose it laughing so loud when I get pedi (why I do my own mostly). She fussed at me playfully, for not coming in sooner...as she began my mani. I liked her too. Long story short. Loved my hair by Lena and her patience as we picked out a style, and Ashley braiding my hair, Oahn (mani/pedi) know how on "how to hold me and get the job done" and ending my appointment chatting with Kim (Owner). Nice hair salon with great energy and a very friendly vibe. I decided to give it try after seeing a few cute cites exit over the course of a few weeks. I received a precision cut and style by Lina and my brows waxed by Kim and both did a great job. My requirements for my cut was that it be funky, low maintenance and easy to wear straight and curly and she did that. Kim is helping me get my brow game back up (they used to be so thick;). My wait time was minimal and I was impressed by the variety of services that were being performed (sew-ins, nails, make up, and more). They also carry a great local line of all natural hair care products - of course bought them, but have not used them enough to know if I'll purchase again. So when it comes to waxing, I absolutely will never go anywhere else but this place! It's family owned business! The owner herself waxed me couples of times and funny to say that she made my experience very pleasant! Brazilians are not fun ESP if u had bad ones in the past but let me tell you that after 5 min everything was done with little to no pain... 2nd cut...My hair grew back and I wanted the definition back. Chris again...this time on a weeknight. EVEN better...I absolutely love the cut...It is AMAZING find to find a space that cuts women's hair short and natural...really...I'll be back again. Great cut. I am so disappointed with their service. I booked an appointment with them yesterday online and got an email confirmation saying the time and the place. I went there this morning at the correct time and the place was closed!!! How unprofessional! This place wasn't close either. I had to drive 30 min to get to the salon just because I really wanted my hair to get done at a black salon. After I waited 10min outside in the cold, I called them and told them that I was waiting outside. I ended up leaving and left another voicemail asking if them could call me back with times for me to book an appointment, but they never called. I am very disappointed with this place and I was hoping that I would have a great experience but their customer service is awful. They don't care about their customers. read more

I saw Kimberly for my first Brazilian wax and it was a good experience. Kimberly is knowledgeable of her craft and made me feel very comfortable when I was in very uncomfortable positions. She made sure to give me tips for after care and maintenance until my next visit. The price was reasonable as well. I got a Brazilian, half leg, underarms, and stomach and it was all $140 which is not bad. FYI-The wax room is very warm so I suggest dressing in layers so you can strip down as much as possible if you need to. Otherwise, if your looking for a new salon or you're a newbie wanting to try it for the first time, I would recommend coming to see Kimberly. You won't be disappointed. read more

Since losing my hairdresser of 10 years because she moved away, it has been tough finding someone who is experienced in cutting and styling short hairstyles for African American women. So, after reading positive reviews here I decided to drive over an hour away from to this salon (best decision ever!) Chris, was not only experienced and knowledgeable about how to care for all textures of hair but he gave me great advice on how to get my hair back healthy. Plus, he cut and styled my hair just how I like it after truly listening to what is I wanted....not what style he wanted to do. He is truly a professional! I would recommend KRS and Chris to anyone who is looking for a salon...especially if you are in need of cute haircut. Lastly, although I called ahead of time and made an appointment I noticed that it was not a problem getting in later the same week which was very convenient for me. KRS is nothing much to rave about. After being referred to KRS by a co-worker of mine. I called to schedule an appointment. I spoke with the receptionist. I requested to have my natural hair blown out, and trimmed. I then asked what the cost would be. (Being that, some of these salon prices for a simple trim is ridiculous. I have been quoted as much as 65.00....AS IF..) The price was fine, but she was rude, unknowledgeable, and displayed poor telephone etiquettes. I was quoted $20.00 for a trim, and $45.00 for a wash & trim, and higher if it was to be straightened. I told her I was interested in having my hair straightened. She insisted my hair must be straighten before it can be trimmed. I questioned this method, due to the fact, I only wear my hair in an curly afro, and I adore the different dimensions as my hair falls. I am truly against applying any unnecessary heat to my hair. She maintained my hair would need to be straightened first. After going back and forth debating with me and putting me on hold several times, she finally said "well the stylist would have to see you hair first, to know what can be done." Even though, she was being rude, and argumentative I remained polite, patient, and understanding. I asked her "can I come in today?" She said "yes." I arrived about 45 minutes. later, as I approached the receptionist desk she rudely ignored me, turning to a young lady who was sitting in the waiting area, she began conversing about food and where to eat. After standing there for a few moment in utter-disbelief, I turned and walked away scanning the room to see if anyone else was available to assist me. At that moment the receptionist yelled CAN I HELP YOU!! I paused, before I gave her my name as I replied.... "sure.. I'm here to see Chris." She stared at me as if she didn't know who or what I was talking about. I quickly said "We spoke a little while ago on the phone about a blowout and trim. you said Chris needed to look at my hair." Without saying a word she walked away whispered to a man then returned to me and said "it will be about 10 minutes until he can see you!!" as she rolls her eyes. NEEDLESS to say.....That was my 1st and last time patronizing this business. Your receptionist is the face of your company. She/ He is the first person we meet when we call or walk-in the door. Their the one's who makes the first impression, and sets the tone of a person's visit. I believe it should always be a great impression. read more
