I've shopped at Kroger locations for over 20 years now. The stores tend to be fairly clean, sanely arranged and have a decent selection of goods (although some do better than others in this regard). This was my first visit to the Southlake store, located in that hoity-toity suburb where everything needs to be clean, neat and preferably part of a big chain that everyone recognizes. Bad for restaurants (IMO), but a little better for grocery stores. Coming in to the store, the upscale feel is immediately apparent. The selection of goods, the layout, the presentation - it all says "We know you have money, spend it here!". I found prices to be a tad higher than the store close to my home in Allen, but still reasonable. The produce area, in particular, looked very nice and seemed to have a good selection, but I was just there for a few dry/frozen goods. I was able to find what I needed and got checked out quickly. Bottom line, yes, it's a grocery store, but it's nice and feels inviting, and that's a big plus. read more

This Kroger has gone downhill for a while now.. Not clean, understaffed as well as always being out of things that other Kroger stores have.. Unfortunately it is the only Kroger within an 8 mile radius of me.. I really feel for the staff that they do have there.. They work hard and for that I am thankful.. But the one department that is always filthy is the Meat and Seafood.. I WILL NOT buy meat of any kind at this store.. They seem to have a problem with expired dates and leaving those items on the shelf that look absolutely horrible.. Steaks that are turning grey and sometimes even chicken that has a grayish green color is disgusting.. Their meat wall is filthy as well as the chicken bunkers never looking like they have been touched with cleaner ... YUCK !! I unfortunately have to go to this store more than I want to.. Been to Krogers on Sunday after 6 PM lately? Well then you are in for a surprise. Baggers no longer work past then leaving the customers to either bag their own groceries of do the self checkout. Neither is ideal when they only have 1 or 2 people working the registers. This leads to long lines and frustrated customers (like me). Someone's elevator doesn't go to the top floor whoever thought this up. Oh well looks like Kroger is following the footsteps of Walmart and I hate shopping at Walmart. Guess I'll have to go earlier or head on to Tom Thumb. read more

If I could give no stars I would. This store is poorly stocked, it has one check person and no baggers. Make sure you allow plenty of time when you shop here. You can't find what you want because they either don't carry it or they've have moved things around again and you're constantly backtracking. I will start using another grocery store with better customer service and that is well stocked. read more

I like this store. Unlike other reviewers, I like all of the self checkouts. I prefer self check outs over standing in line that's one of the reasons I like Kroger over Tom Thumb. The click list is very convenient as well and thanks to another reviewer, I found a coupon to cover the service charge. The shopper picks meat and vegetables better than I do. Recently I had to make two returns of sub par Kroger brand items and the return was hassle free. Please note: you may have a Dez Bryant sighting right in the check out line. I did. The one time I went to a cashier he was in line behind me. I accidentally took his sour cream and onion Pringle's because I thought they were mine. I told the bagger they were mine as he was packing up my bags at the same time the cashier was ringing up Dez. I paid for two cans and was quite surprised when I got home to unpack my bags and had three cans. Sorry Dez. read more

I actually used to like this store, however, since they moved to self checkout and have reduced or removed actual checkout lanes the customer service has diminished. Don't fire your current customer until you've hired your new customer. Majority of your shoppers have a large basket ring and need traditional check out. I've stopped shopping here because you no longer meet my needs. Terrible. read more

I love Kroger, only shop at Kroger, and probably always will. My issue is, an employee who is there every time I come, I believe his name is Daniel? Long hair, typically found over by the self check out? Anywho, he is extremely rude EVERY single time I come in. The last time I went was pretty much my last straw. He was being so rude to the people next to me, accusing them of using fake coupons or something but regardless of the situation what he said was extremely unprofessional. " Who's paycheck do you think that is going to come out of? How am I supposed to eat if I lose my job?" They were not rude at all and as I said, regardless, unprofessional. In addition, the use of "honey, sweetheart, sweetie, ETC". It isn't professional, and it makes most people feel like they are getting talked down to- if his tone didn't already. I would lose my job if I spoke/ acted the way Daniel does. A conversation needs to be had, be grateful you have a job right now- if you're not happy you do NOT have to be there. Someone else could use that job and do it with a better attitude keep that in mind. read more

I left a basket of food in the middle of the store due to the fact they only had express lanes with a cashier and self checkouts. There were no cashiers open for a full basket of groceries. What next, go behind the deli counter to slice our own meat. I'm heading back to Walmart! read more

I would frequent this place more often if they actually cared for their customers. Last night I had a cartful of groceries and was forced to check out in self-checkout. Self-checkout is fine if you have a few items, but extremely inefficient for a cartful. Also, a kid from that had purchased some jars of peppers about 10 minutes before came back because he got the wrong ones. When he asked to return them (unopened with receipt) and buy the right ones, he was told he could return them and he could only purchase the correct ones. This Kroger's always stocks everything I need, and I've never had to wait more than a couple minutes in line if there's any line at all. The staff are helpful and friendly... just makes grocery shopping less of a chore. I haven't shopped at Kroger many times before this one, but if the others are anything like this store I'd highly recommend them all. This is my grocery store now, I've just moved to Grapevine in March but I've been here 4 times already and I will continue to go back for sure. read more

Kroger has been our go to grocery store for 20 years but the other day I was extremely disappointed at their New wine prices that were supposedly 20 percent off. This sale has always applied to every single bottle without restrictions. Now, be careful because only certain bottles receive the 20 percent discount and they are marked. The real disappointment is they JACKED their prices up 20-30 percent across the board and then applied the limited selection discount. They used to compete with Costco but I always used Kroger because of a better selection. Costco now kills them. Stopped this morning at 9 am on way home from Dr because I wanted fresh fish to cook for dinner. Two people behind the counter prepping stuff. Mind you the cases had already been stocked. I stood there a couple minutes and then said Good Morning over the counter. Gentleman looked at me. I asked if I could get some fish. He said, "Nope, not til 10". Seriously, it's ready. Came here to buy the Waterloo sparkling water. Soo yummy, nice selection. Also found some brands of seltzer water we've never seen before. Blown away by the low price of milk $1.69 a gallon??? Totally unheard of in So Cal where I live. Amazing!! We pay three times that for milk. read more

So we are in line with a cart full of groceries with 3 others behind us and two female associates were standing there speaking loudly about how basically people are lazy and dont use self checkout. I dont have to do anything but walk in your store and pick up what I need, walk to the register and pay for my items. They are obviously miserable doing their job (scanning groceries and collecting peoples money) so I did the least I could do so I bagged my own groceries. If I could I'd give 0 Star rating however One Star for Customer Service and professionalism. read more

I love the Kroger in Southlake. Not because of the groceries, sometimes I'm disappointed, but Holy Smokes, the employees here are phenomenal. They always are sweet and kind and value my business. Typical grocery store with a nice layout, which I am indeed interested in when it comes to where I shop. The labels are kind of old looking and being weirdly into aesthetics, this kind of bothered me. HEALTHCODE VIOLATIONS!!! I have shopped at this Krogers for the past 6 years and for the most part, have never had much of an issue, until today. As I was walking past the deli counter, I just happened to look over and see the employee who was re-stocking FRESH cuts of meat......WITHOUT gloves!!!! Bare handed, wiping them on his dirty smock, touching the trays, and then touching the meat. In my disbelief I had to take a triple take. Upon the triple take, I witnessed another employee drop some fresh grind off the counter on the floor, and then PUT IT BACK IN THE PILE TO USE!!!! This all happened an hour ago, I finished my shopping (boxed goods only, thankfully), got home and spoke to the manager on duty, Paul. (Pretty sure that was his name). I ordered a cake online, and the bakery called to let me know they did not have the kit to make the cake. They contacted a nearby Kroger bakery and were able to get the kit and make the cake on time! I really appreciated them going the extra mile. read more

I've been shopping here for years & would recognize employees and would enjoy talking with them. Then they added self check outs. I didn't like it but I got used to it, especially when I was there before 8am. I asked & learned the cashier doesn't come in until after 8am. Then Kroger took out more lanes & added even more self check outs on the other end with very few lanes left for real cashiers! I'm sorry but I don't want to work on top of giving you $$ just to buy groceries! Self check problems: looking up codes, weighing produce, making sure it accepts that I have already bagged my item, getting approval for items (wine, markers!) This store has 'remodelled' several times but it's never better. From now on, I'm going to Tom Thumb, which is even closer to my home. The Tom Thumb in Southlake does not have self check out so you never have to bother with that. Real people who I don't recognize yet are very friendly. Store design is nice. I don't like to shop but when I need to, this is where I'm going from now on. read more

You would think a grocery store in a higher end area would be nicer. I just made my last shopping trip to this Kroger. All of the produce was rotten (strawberries, oranges, grapefruit). So rude employee who refused to say Hi" throwing my groceries like I got it for free I don't think I will go back again. I even try to make a conversation see if she was having a bad day and made her smile. she totally ignored me and my daughter try to help her passing the items she snatched a few things out her hand. We both got so confused why she acted like that. Maybe the color of our skin matter because the soon we paid turned away the person behind walked up who happened to be white she goes all happy and start saying hello how are u with a full conversation. Ordered a retirement cake from the 2110 E. Southlake Blvd. store in Southlake. We were distracted with a note they put with the cake about not having the "marble" that we ordered, and the substitution they decided to make........so we didn't catch that they misspelled "Retirement" .....they put "Rirement" on the cake. To make it worse, the store response has been defensive. If the occasion matters, don't get your cake here. read more

This store drives me insane. I have gone here on and off for several years only because the location is convenient. Their produce often times is NOT fresh and their meat is subpar. I can't remember the last time they had good avocados and one time I bought spoiled hummus (my fault for not checking but it shouldn't have been on the shelf). I've been many times where there are not shopping carts available and the customers have to go looking for some in the parking lot. There's also been several times where the bagging employees have fought with each other in front of customers and it was beyond uncomfortable. read more

If you buy bread, check the date. Its probably within a day or so of the 'sell by' date. If you buy produce (if they have any that day), look at it carefully to see how old it is. I've bought soggy mushrooms, kale with colonies of insects (I wish I were exaggerating!), I've seen soft cucumbers, and already out of date stuff in the fake meat and cheese section. Once I bought shrimp on 'managers special' so I expected it to not be the freshest, but it was really, REALLY rank. I bought shrimp again but from the meat counter and when I brought it home it reeked of ammonia. I had to go back and return $20 worth of shrimp in the middle of the night because it was NOT going to stay in my house. I wrote corporate an email and they sent me a voucher, but when i tried to go use it, the store didn't know how to process it. The front end staff are really nice but a lot of the people in other departments have gotten rude and unhelpful. as of 10/2015 they've gone through their second remodel in recent years. This sounds like they're desperately trying to fix the wrong thing. Like when restaurants mysteriously go through a bunch of advertised 'new management' changes.
