I have to say that I am a huge fan of Kroger and I find myself in a Kroger whenever business brings me to the Memphis, Tennessee area. Kroger has a lot going for it and I am almost always impressed with the store itself, the staff, and pretty much the complete Kroger experience. The ambiance is pleasant enough for a supermarket and I always find it a good place to stock up on some water and snacks for my hotel. I would definitely recommend this particular Kroger. This just may be the Kroger that I will be going to for produce! They have a huge selection and all of them looks and are fresh! I bought a lot when I went. I got bananas, tomatoes, watermelon, strawberries, and more! The customer service was great. I was in and out. My shopping experience was also pleasant. It's also a plus that a Starbucks is there as well. Now I also want to acknowledge that the baskets were in good shape...I mean that's important. The last location I went to it felt like it was on two wheels. That alone wore me out! lol! read more

KROGER WITH THE NICEST PEOPLE! (Words I thought I'd never say!) I go to many-a-Kroger in the area. Even though some are much newer, nicer, etc. -this one truly has GOOD PEOPLE! PRODUCE DEPT: I swear it's like "Cheers!" The crew knows my name & asks me how I'm doing. I get (now socially distant) air-hugs from Caroline. The guys will talk about the last Grizzlies or Tigers game with me as they quickly stock the veggies. Recently, after discussing the best kind of apples, one guy washed an "OPAL" apple, cut it and insisted that I try it! (I still prefer honey crisp. LOL!) On another occasion, I was looking for greens. A lady apologized, saying that they were way behind that day! To my surprise, she still stopped to get some from the back. CURBSIDE: Curbside is always a funny gamble at any location. There's typically at least one or two things picked wrong. But Poplar Plaza seems to always have it right. My wife now comes here exclusively. Once they did forget to add the coupons. No biggie, after realizing, my wife wasn't going to say anything. Well, next time she came, they told her they caught the mistake & gave her a GIFT CARD & a REUSABLE BAG filled with COOL SAMPLES! The rest of the store ... ehh. Nothing special. They don't have a Corky's or a keg station. There's not a big cheese or olive bar. Even the Starbucks drinks aren't always to perfection. But nothing to complain about. LIKE ANYWHERE, be aware of your surroundings in the parking lot. Avoid shopping alone at night. Hope this was helpful! read more

I can't stress enough what a horrible experience this Kroger is. I have been shopping here for about 3 years now, and while it wasn't the greatest store, it had the basics and I could get in and out quickly. I tried for the first time using the Kroger clicklist and that was my first mistake. When I first arrived all of the clicklist spots were completely full. 6/8 spots were empty cars of people who parked in those spots. And while Kroger is not responsible for this per se, it was just the start to this grocery run from hell. We circled to clicklist spots for 30 minutes before someone left. We sat and wait for an hour and a half for our groceries while multiple other cars (4-6) pulled up and received service before us. When someone else who had been waiting for what she said was 2 hours, she was met with an attitude and to wait your turn. After another car pulled up and got service before me or the other person waiting I got out and asked what was happening. I wasn't mad about the wait time- if you're understaffed I understand. But what I didn't appreciate was all of these other people being serviced before we were. When i told the worker this she said you should've gotten a text that your order is delayed. I checked but received no text. When i tried to explain this to her she said "oh so youre tryna be smart with me no" and walked back towards the store while still yelling over her shoulder, leaving me standing in the parking lot confused. I waited for almost 30 more minutes before going inside and trying to find anyone to give me a refund. i got sent to 3 different places before someone was able to speak to me. At this point i just wanted to cancel my $300+ order. I am very saddened because of this interaction and will not be back to this kroger. I have shopped at the Plaza Drive store since the very day it opened and like it and the pharmacy, but I may have to stop if they don't clear up the awful smell. Today is July 13 and the first ime I noticed was about three weeks ago! I ran in today pick up a prescription and a few small things and thought I wouldn't get out before I threw up. This is unacceptable in a place that sells food and makes the whole shopping experience unecssarily unpleasant. Please have more consideration for your employees and customers. read more

PHARMACY ONLY REVIEW 2023 update: The head pharmacist here is the epitome of everything wrong with the American medical system. It is painfully clear through her actions, mannerisms, tone, and speech that she use herself on a different echelon of each and every one of her patients/clients. She will tell you what is best for you. And has admitted.multiple times that she will refuse your doctor's instructions if it isn't what she thinks is correct. She has denied my wife's pain medication immediately after having a C-section. I understand the seriousness of the opioid epidemic in this country, truly I do. The inverse affects of it are that so many medical adjacent people have lost all sense of professionalism and now simply think everyone is out to abuse their drugs. Especially when the drugs are specifically crafted to be anti-abuse, it's beyond reason and logic. read more

Ok Kroger but I hate that I usually have to enter in via the exit (I usually go at night) because they close the right entrance door around 9 or 10. This leaves me at times having to face an onslaught of exiters before I can enter - not very inviting. I read they will be building a new store and demolishing this one. Great! They are always out of stock. Security is not securing anything. They don't even be looking outside. They never have registers open. They close entrances off at 6p. They never have shopping carts available. We have to go fetch them. The parking lots are always filthy. People are always loitering, begging, and pestering in the parking lots. read more

Where do I start... I love this Kroger because it's close to work.. but they need to tweak a few things. First being the line at the Customer service counter. It's normally all the way by the floral area and there is one man working the line alone. This store has been remodeled and this is by far the best looking Kroger I've ever been to in my life. Kroger has always been the middle ground store for me, not as good as Publix or Ralph's and just a notch above stores like Von's or Safeway. But if Kroger keeps remodeling their stores like this they will quickly gain momentum to the top spot in the grocery store pyramid. What's different? It's just bigger, brighter, the deli/produce area has more product variety and has fresh bars where you can purchase food a la carte (priced by weight), even the floral area is more appealing. If this was the location of your neighborhood Kroger then you know what I mean - vast improvement thanks to the new space and remodeling. I hope they remodel mine back home! read more

If my boyfriend said "mmmm that ASS!! Can I walk with you?" That would be one thing. But an employee??? What. The?! I don't care if this place is right by my house (which is actually a terrifying thought given everything I've experienced here), I'd much rather drive the 15 extra minute to Whole Foods or pay the steeper prices at High Point. My man and I were grilling out last night and we ran out of charcoal. No problem, I'll just pop down to the friendly grocery down the street. Ummm that is until I walk out of the store, heading to my car, when I hear a grunt and that poetry. I was completely shocked that this employee was loitering in the cart area and said that to a customer. It was mortifying and insulting. This isn't my only issue or complaint with this place. The employees just don't care and are constantly talking with one another (or hitting on customers)...they move sooooo slowly and I swear I saw one of them kicking the carts toward the door instead of pushing like a normal person. The only reason I'm giving this place two stars instead of one is due to the renovations and large selection. read more

Worst experience I have ever had with a drive up service. It has been over an hour since we arrived and only 2 cars have been taken care of. We have called the number and had the call immediately declined multiple times as well. Absolutely awful system and execution, what's the point if it's going to be this slow? I had never encountered rotten meat and spoiled produce in a grocery store until I went to this Kroger. On two occasions, I selected a pack of chicken only to find that it smelled bad enough to throw it out. The bagged lettuce often turns brown within an hour of opening it. Forget two nights worth of salad. I have never bought fish there since you can smell the fish well before you get near the fish counter. My wife would get ill eating any of the meat there so I stopped buying altogether. I now drive across town to better stores that might charge more. But I can be much more certain the food is safe there. read more

One of the very best Krogers in Memphis. The variety of goods are of great quality and the location of the products are easy to find. I love the sushi bar and the placement of the vegatables. Even the front entry is filled with seasonal items so you won't have to look far. The staff is friendly and helpful. I frequent here before or after work. Wow!!!! Every time I go to this Kroger they are always out of at least one thing I'm shopping for even if it's not a sale item. Last Night I shopped and counted nine sale items outta stock with no suitable alternative. And knowing your local Market on union is closed currently you become the closest Kroger market to downtown So you should increase product levels to maintain the extra foot traffic because I have noticed the insane amount of extra people each day then the usual crowds. My household is of two, we shop on a as need or every 2 day basis and enjoyed shopping now we wanna shop for a few weeks to avoid the lack of service, lack of product which was declining before the union market closed. As far as selection goes, this Kroger is all right, but the service is AWFUL. I go here infrequently, but EVERY TIME, invariably my cashier doesn't have a license to sell alcohol so they have to call for someone who does (making a simple checkout take 5+ minutes). The last time I went, I waited behind someone who was waiting to buy beer. Multiple calls to the management and several minutes later, someone scowlingly appeared, made the transaction, looked at MY beer sitting on the conveyor belt, and promptly disappeared, leading to another long wait. Employees here have mastered the art of looking just beyond you, glancing away, or becoming involved in a consuming conversation with another employee when you walk up to ask for help. I think next time I'm tempted to go here, I'll just drive the extra mile to a store where I can get a question answered, maybe even with a smile. read more

This store is always poorly staffed. Having to wait in a line 5 to 7 people deep with a cart of frozen and refrigerated items is the epitome of a terrible grocery store. It takes the cashiers SO long to check out a single person. Customer service is terrible and no ones cares about anything because they don't have too. It's Memphis. Everything is awful anyways why try to be better ... right? Just absolutely awful. Never again will I come here. Not to mention they had a rack of about 20 or 25 lobster tails on sale and sold them ALL to one person. Y'all impose limits on water and toilet paper when we need them cuz of COVID (effectively preventing the people who need them from getting them) but going to sell all of an item you don't have back ups for to 1 single person. I actively anticipated the new Kroger store at Poplar Plaza for months. When it finally opened, I was very excited, and then found I couldn't find a parking space. I guess everyone else was excited as well. I understand that as soon as the old building is torn down, there will be more parking. When I finally did shop, I was very impressed with the store's size and the layout. There is a much wider variety and lots of freshly prepared dishes. Everything was great until check-out. The old store had very friendly personnel. This is not the case at this store. I've been three times, and not once did the cashiers say one word as I began to checkout. They didn't ask if I had a Kroger card, and they didn't say anything when the transaction was complete. One did ask me to sign the screen. One time the cashier had another cashier beside her and they chatted incessantly while checking me out. Not one word to the customer. This place needs some training and supervision. As far as grocery stores go, the whole kroger chain makes me mad. I hate the way they generally replace most of the brands I like with kroger brand junk. But as far as Kroger's go, this one is bomb. We call it The New Kroger Experience, because going here is an experience. Now, don't be fooled by how the patrons here have become oddly attractive as compared with those of old kroger. The people who work here are the same ones from old kroger and therefore service is hit and miss. But the atmosphere is nice, and you have waaay more choices than at other krogers. I just want to say that Kourtney(spelling?) who works at the Highland/poplar location is by far one of the best employees/customer service people I have ever come across in ANY business! He is always friendly, complimentary and accommodating. If you asked him to help you do your grocery shopping with you he absolutely would! Every time I see him he compliments me. And I see him do it to so many Kroger patrons! Grocery shopping is almost always a pain in the butt, however if your lucky to be greeted by Kourtney at some point during your shopping venture, You will leave feeling good about your experience and prbly about yourself! Note: this review is for the NEW Kroger at this location. So, I was excited about this Kroger, since it's much closer to my house than the one I do my shopping at now (Mendenhall and Sanderlin). This place is HUGE -- in fact, it makes my usual Kroger feel pretty cozy by comparison. Of course, everything is nice and shiny and new, and they have all kinds of stuff that no other Kroger in Memphis does (I think I saw a milkshake machine, among other things). However, there are a couple of issues. Despite being so large, it feels more crowded than other stores -- I don' t know if aisles are just closer together or what, but it definitely felt cramped. The produce department doesn't seem to any better selection than other stores, and I was really disappointed in the meat/seafood counter. Also, when I got the pasta section, I wondered where the rest of it was -- a lot of brands and types that I think are pretty standard were not there. Weird. Despite the inclusion of fancy items like oysters, I was unable to find any NY strips at the meat counter (just lots of T-bones), and quite a bit of their selection of fish was frozen, rather than fresh. And please, I know we're all trying to be "green," but just put my salmon in a styrofoam tray, don't wrap it up in paper and shrink wrap and make me wonder if it's all going to come sliding out in my hands. Finally, the parking lot is jam-packed. Maybe just temporary, while they knock down the old Kroger and while everyone within 25 miles checks out the latest and greatest Kroger, but frustrating none the less. So while this is certainly an improvement on the old store, and much better than a lot of Krogers, I'll stick with the Sanderlin store for my weekly shopping. read more

Things seem to be organized in a nonsensical fashion. And if you are able to figure out a day or time that it's not packed, I'd love to hear it.
