Been going there a couple times a week for years. People,have asked why I shop there always noting bad service. Today, I didn't pay attention. Got in the express line. The young girl counted my stuff twice making a point out loud that I exceeded the 15 items. Really, didn't know what to do so just counted out 15 items. She re-counted the items to make sure it was 15 or less. I left the rest in the basket and just walked out. Going to shop at Krogers for now on smh. read more

Having just moved to the area from the beer mecca of New England, I was a little worried that I would find myself in a beer desert (much less exciting than a beer dessert) in Memphis. Thanks to Yelp, I was able to quickly discover the Memphis beer treasure that is Cash Saver. Madison Growler is basically an amazing bottle shop and growler fill station hidden inside of the less-than-nice grocery store that is Cash Saver. They have 30 different taps to choose from and you can bring in any old growler glass you have around your house or buy a glass for ~$5. The fills are really cheap and they even have discounts on certain days (Saturday is BOGO 50% off). The build your own six pack section is a great way to try out lots of different local beers or get a variety of beers for a party where everyone has different tastes. The six packs end up being around $8.50+10%+tax. I may be new here, but I'm pretty sure this is the best place to buy beer in Memphis. read more

No, I wouldn't want to spend a long time hanging out in the parking lot, but I'd say that about most parking lots anywhere. AND the guy working in the parking lot collecting carts to return them to the store was downright cheerful this evening when I was beat-down from a full day of work. Most of the people shopping there when I go after work or mid day on a Saturday are families who are probably glad to have a local store with somewhat reasonable prices. (It's true what other reviewers say -- everything is "discounted" with a 10% markup at the end. There may be some moderate savings with this model). This is not the place to go if you're looking for organic rennet-free cheese or gourmet chocolate. But if you want beer and staple items, you can find them here with easy parking and generally personable staff. Love this local business! read more

Yes, you are at the correct address, don't run away! This is going to look all wrong but stick with me, grab your growler and walk like you know what you're doing. Right now Cash Saver at night captures what a neighborhood in transition looks like. It's a cool blend of people and feels a little dangerous. I have heard many tales about a fantasy beer aisle and resident brew genius Taylor James. It's true, it's all true. Now that they have a wall of great taps for growler fills, the place is bonkers! 30, count them, 30 taps. I have a few favorite beer places for growler fills around the country, but these folks have them beat. On my first visit, armed security guards were roughly escorting a shoplifter to the store office as young hipsters and old beer fans (clearly shaken by what they just saw) strolled toward neon signs with multiple growlers in hand. The beer aisle is well organized by style and region, great selection in the bottle. But the real attraction here is what is on tap. Beer fans make small talk as they read the latest chalkboard Now on Tap menu. This is a carry out only establishment, there is no tasting, so make good use of the other folks in line to make recommendations. I believe they opened the dispensing station in December 2013 with about 2,000 branded growlers, on my last visit they had completely sold out! No matter, bring your own, they will fill any brand, even rinse it out and throw on a new cap as needed (in fact they may lovingly give it a shot of C02 prior to filling to preserve it a bit longer and prevent any nasty flavors in the headspace). A very nice selection on tap including some local favs and other regional breweries like Nashville's Yazoo, St Lous' "Anheuser-Busch" (juuuust kidding, I mean Schlafly of course) and Kansas City's "Boulevard Brewing Co". Many other winners from Brooklyn Brewery to Victory. As mentioned by fellow Yelpers, prices are very fair for all this goodness. Wow. I am impressed with the beer selection. I love the create your own six pack. This is a unique collection of great breweries both local and national crafts. I will be returning. The prices are also great. While I was picking my beers I was forced to listen to guy who fills growlers give his misguided opinions about beer. It was sad to hear him give awful advice to the poor lady who was buying a growler. I hope she has the sense to return and avoid that guy. He should be relieved of his job. As you've probably already read, the beer selection is vast, plentiful and inexpensive. That's my main reason for coming here. The place is low budget and so the atmosphere reflects that. I usually encounter a long wait time in line (or I should say longer than it needs to be) but there's usually some sort of buffoonish, weird, crazy behavior from some 'entity' that keeps me entertained. This review is for the beer selection only. I came to Memphis knowing that I would be entering a craft beer desert. Sure there are some new breweries opening, but the overall selection in stores is miniscule and many of the offerings are well past their prime or expensively priced. After many fruitless and disappointing trips to the mainstays around town, I was prepared to admit defeat. But online mentions of a mysterious "Cash Saver on Madison" were common enough that I decided I needed to take a look. Though the unfinished front certainly makes it look a bit sketchy on the outside, make a beeline to the left when you get in and you'll see it. Beer, beer, glorious beer, delicious beer! And not only the Sierra Nevada/New Belgium types, but a full complement of local brews as well as many rarer ones. The best was two whole shelves of sours, including my favorite bang-for-the-buck of Cuvee Renee as well as the Rodenbach Grand Cru. Make your own six-packs with dozens of different breweries' offerings for an absurdly fair price. I even snatched up a hard-to-find Woodchuck Belgian White cider. And the prices? Absurdly fair and at least a dollar lower than I'd ever seen (including the extra 10% they tack on at the end) on the West Coast. Of course it was the beer that brought me here in the first place. I've lived in the Memphis area for about 7 years now and I've enjoyed seeing the beer culture change and grow. Right now, Cash Saver is the BEST place to buy craft beer, get your growlers filled, and get local brews. But, after visiting a couple of times for beer only, I started looking around the store more. What you can see here is growth and change. My girlfriend, a lifelong Memphian, has told me about the store's past and how it was a great grocery store, then a really bad one, and now it is once again turning around. There is a long way to go, but if the crowds I see there every week are any indication, I think the store is well on its way. And I believe they'll be able to credit beer for a lot of that. read more

This place is top notch simply for it's beer/cider offerings. No where else in Memphis (that I've found) offers so many types of cider for my build-your-own packs. They also offer a lot of beers/ciders that many places don't carry. I often like to just come get a 6 pack as a gift for a friend, mixed with hard to find beers. They also, at times, sell random pint glasses with beers names on them for very reasonable prices. Some appear to be very unique! Aside from the beer and cider, this place actually is a grocery store. I recently shopped here to compare to my typical kroger experience. It didn't seem much better (or worse) in terms of price. It does lack variety and I'm a little hesitant to buy meat or produce here (my own germ issues), however it is suitable for picking up the essentials. They don't offer much in the way of quality foods to pair with all that high end beer. 90 percent of what I see people buying is white bread and Faygo. There's probably been a few times in my life where a loopy bearded man yelled at me - it's okay homeless guy and Grandad, I still love you. However, I wouldn't advise going here unless you think this would make your beer buying experience more enjoyable. To be fair, the bearded fellow with the big booby lady tattooed on him might not do this to everyone but God forbid you end up with an off limits beer in your mix a six pack. He found it in my six pack at check out and told me this one wasn't allowed to be mixed. I told him it was in that section but that was cool, I'd go put it back for something else. The guy just let me keep it. Okay, so fast forward to being checked out and a 5-10 minute walk from the store. This guy comes running around the corner saying he "knows" I took it from the six pack and how I'm a piece of s**t. I tell him he can just take it back, I don't really care that much about it, and I told him that at check out. Bearded booby lady tattoo bro just rants on about me being a pile for 5 mins or so. Hey dude, whatever helps you sleep at night. Okay, so, even if I did throw it in there, the guy saw it at check out and I said I'd put it back. If it mattered so much why wouldn't you just make someone put it back? Running after customer's once they've left the store to curse at them is uncouth. So, it seems Cash Saver must have read my review and made edits accordingly! The new renovations are awesome! New freezers for the meat and the ice cream- that was most certainly needed, and the meat section is no longer suspicious thank goodness. They even expanded the veggie department- so many new veggie options, and there are now 3 choices of hummus and a totally amazing authentic Mexican food department. You can get so many ingredients that have been impossible to find for mexican dishes here now. Chorizo, crema, corn husks and chips from the restaurant Las Delicias. (They are phenomenal.) That barely scratches the surface, you should check it out. The new beer department is cool. Lots of new options. Now the customer base is much more hipsterey, but I find that they tend to go straight for the beer and they ignore everywhere else. It's kind of weird to see the transition from low-key, poor people trying to get the cheapest food to sudden hipsters but only in two isles. They also have sushi now next to the beer bar but I have not been brave enough to attempt that venture. (EDIT: I did attempt that venture. DO NOT EAT THE SUSHI.) Cash saver is even better- I hear almost weekly from my father how jealous he is of this store. I only shop here unless I need specialty cheeses now. read more

The prices are so much cheaper than a gas station and they even have beer that other places do not carry. One of my favorite beers, Molson Canadian, which I can only find at Miss Cordelia's is a way better price at Cash Savers! Beer. So much beer. The store itself is nice, nothing fancy really. The parking lot is kind of sketch at night, and I've definitely had friendlier checkers, but it's a grocery store, not a day spa. Really, you go to Cash Saver to get your drink on. There's the Madison Growler Shop, which is really cool looking and has great beers. And then there's the entire wall-length cooler of beers, the make your own 6-pack wall of beers, the aisle and endcaps full of beers. Really, if you like a particular beer and want to see if they have it in Memphis, this is probably the place to go. Really reasonable prices too. read more

We went here the other day to get a growler for the SuperBowl. It's awesome to have a growler station in a grocery store near my house. The selections are great with plenty of local options. I got a local IPA for only $8. For the rest of the store, it's ok. It's pretty inexpensive. The only problem is that they do not carry everything that is in a standard store. For example, we didn't like their selection of dishwashing liquid. However, they have what you need and of course the beer selection is great. read more

They are good for the neighborhood based on economics because they do not mark-up their prices. You get the base price and they only mark up your total purchase 10%. Unless you want beer, this place blows. I walked in and it reminded me of being in India. Dirty, low quality, high priced brands I've never heard of. It all seems like a rip off. I went down here because the hyped up growler station. I was very let down, this was the first growler station I was ever told I couldn't sample the beer before I bought. That was disappointing, so I had to stick with a beer I knew I liked. I got two growlers filled in here, the beer selection was nothing compared to some others. Wasn't worth the special trip I made to get to this place. I'd probably come back if it was more convenient for me, but as it stands it was more of an inconvenience with zero reward. I love this store now. I used to stay away from the store, because it was dirty and the products were full of dust. But when I saw the photos on Facebook, it seemed that they made an improvement. I came in a couple of weeks ago, and it was clean! The meats were in better quality than the last time I've visited. In fact, they are in better quality than Kroger. The prices can't be beat. For instance, I bought some Mike's Hard Strawberry Lemonade for $2 less than the other guys. And they were not joking about having the largest beer selection in Memphis. You may want to go early in the morning or any other times when it's not crowded. The lines are long, despite most of them opening. But still, it's a great store. From out of town, been here in Memphis at Methodist University Hospital almost 3 weeks with a family member. Its not cheap at all to eat every meal being purchased in the hospital or outside the hospital.
