This location isn't on my radar. I was stopping at stores to look for paper supplies during the corona virus implosion. It seems like everyone was shopping for the apocalypse and certain items were out of stock. Kroger did a decent job of posting signs limiting the most popular items. The employees were nice. read more

This Kroger is ok. The new guard is better then the previous one but the employees just appear to be socializing or on their phones not paying attention. Self check out could clean the screens between customers so they don't look dirty and smeared. The store doesn't seem as nice as it used to be and needs to be renovated like the Rio Hill one. They started to before covid and stopped. Both this one and the other on Emmett have had kids run and scream around the store like it's a playground but nobody stops them or tells their parents. It's not very pleasant to shop this way. Other then that everything seems stocked up. read more

Kroger is usually pretty good with customer service. Not tonight. It's Friday night at 5pm, self checkout is full of people plus more waiting. 2 cashiers on the registers, busy. No one in customer service. Just one 21 year old gal, literally running all over the front end. She even had to leave the front end and help a customer with propane. No help. She called for help, none came. I did watch 2 employees just wander around doing nothing except watch this poor kid run her ass off. I waited 13 minutes and left. The lady behind me was cussing her head off. So , is there no manager around or assistant manager. The gal told me the person working customer service clocked out and went home. this is BS. read more

Shitty store worse krogers in all of Charlottesville they could really learn a thing or two from the other two Krogers it's always extremely dirty managers are bad and workers are just as worse read more

I went through customer service for two services and was harassed by security. As I checked our she accused me of using self checked out as an excuse to violently stop my basket with her manual switch with my two month old in the basket causing him to jerk in an aggressive manner. Sorta like being hit from the rear in a vehicular accident. I told her I did not use self check out so she didn't need to check my receipt. This lady with the bad weave needs to be fired for profiling a defamation. I purchased all of my items and had a receipt. read more

Kroger - the receipt for the restaurant - Grocery Near Me - Charlottesville, Virginia

My Kroger of choice out of the three in Cville. The gas station makes errands a bit more concise, and the gas prices can't be beat! (especially with your kroger fuel points) The store is organized in a way that makes a bit more sense to me than the other Krogers, and I never find it too crowded, even during more peak shopping hours. The employees are cordial and not unfriendly, but sometimes hard to get ahold of if I'm looking for someone while walking around the store, or even during self check-out they can be distracted and not quick to address an issue. Usually though that's not a problem. Kroger isn't great for everything, but you can often find good deals, and their own brand, "Private Selection" I think it's called, actually has quite a range of good quality products. Married to a Scotsman, and having developed a habit for an afternoon cup of tea with a "biscuit" or two, I will say that Kroger has the best selection of no-frills, affordable biscuits (cookies) that go well with a hot drink. Affordable cookies are surprisingly hard to find in the states! Their produce can be iffy. But I appreciate the clementines for kids that are often in a bowl near the entrance; my son loves a treat like that while grocery shopping with me. In general, an easy and affordable grocery shopping experience. read more

Probably the worst Kroger in Charlottesville they never have anything. None of their employees know where things are in the store or can help you. I will gladly pay more at Harris Teeter for better service. read more

Manned by scumbags. I purchased a prescription that I needed to head off a life-and-death condition. The scumbag "Technician" named Vasantha quoted me a price of $39.63. I presented him with my GoodRx card to see if I can get it for a better price. Vasantha said "it was exactly the same" and being in a miserable state that I am, I took him at his word. When I got home I remembered that I had thee GoodRx App and checked the price - it was listed at $18.55!! WTF?! I hope Kroger and Vasantha are happy with the $21.08 they gouged out of me because this is the last time I will set foot or spend a penny in Kroger. To top it off, the sushi I bought was made with under cooked rice that was almost "crunchy"!! So very disappointed. read more

Just the typical Kroger grocery store, but this one has a gas station too. Everything I was looking for on this trip was in stock and moderately priced. Restroom was clean as well. read more

They didn't seem to have a huge selection of Kroger brand items, and the interior was a bit run down. However, what they did have was well stocked and the staff I interacted with were nice and helpful. Overall, this location is a great place to pick up a few items in a pinch, but I wouldn't go here again for a large grocery shopping trip. read more

I'm not a big fan of krogers. I feel like they are a bit unorganized & their "fresh" beef aren't too fresh. Prices are cheaper than Harris Teeter. I usually have pleasant experiences every time I go but today, the lady working the self-checkout was sure in a pissy mood. My Kroger card would not go through nor would my telephone number for some reason. She refused to scan hers and kept asking me for my phone number and keyed it in herself when I already tried 5 TIMES. I don't think it's too difficult to press a button on her little hand-held machine so that we both would just move on with our busy lives!! I only come here on rare occasions but my first choice is definitely Harris Teeter which is a couple of stores down. I'd rather pay a higher price than coming to Krogers where they are more crowded, and their foods aren't that fresh. read more

I would really love to say thank you to Robin for being helpful with me when the cashier didn't give me the receipt and I need to return a shoe rack that is I thought was on sale. She is really kind and patient with me. And I would like say that I really appreciate her. Among the 3 employees I've encountered yesterday , she is the only one who had tried to help me out. Thumbs up! read more

Terrible service , they just dont care , rude people , no clue how to speak to customers. Been dealing with them for appox 40 years , no more , Pharmacy a complete joke , always a problem , 12 counters to check out , only one open , had a large cart full on previous trip in , no checkers had to go through self checkout with over 60 items , and bag . last time for me ! Wegmans now has all of our business, they are well staffed and happy ! read more

Why is it that every time I've used the self checkout there has been some glitch that stopped the transaction and had to wait for "help" that took forever to arrive? And why is it that when the attendant finally arrives they make you feel as if you were trying to get away with not paying for the item, pointing to the omnipotent "camera" that sees everything and is sure you are a thief???! The staff should be advised that not everyone has a criminal mind, I was really really trying to pay for the potatoes! I've had the worst experience in this store, rude, unhelpful and lazy staff, inept managers, inadequate self registers. This store is terribly low budget. read more

They have great prices on most, but not all items. Not exactly upscale, but just fine. Its like anyplace else where you have employees that are friendly & helpful, others not as much. I shop here often. read more

Today was a rough day of NO SMILING FACES. I was desperately looking for an item and someone who worked for Kroger to ask for help. I man was passing by so I called to him, several times, before he paused to turn and look at me. I let him know I couldn't read his shirt but wondered if he worked for Kroger (I didn't want to offend him if he didn't . . . some folks are offended by the error). Blank faced, flat toned, he asked how he could help (so I guess that's a "yes, I work for Kroger"). He seemed so perturbed that I asked him, "Sir, am I bothering you." He said, "I'm in a hurry." I asked for my item, he pointed me to aisle 6 and walked off. The exchange was so abrupt and abrasive, I was stuck. Anyway, I grabbed my item and went to check out to find the 8 people that probably should have been in the aisles looking for lost customers like me. I'm not exaggerating. There were actually more than 8 people up front, they were not all at registers, they were congregating just shooting the breeze. I looked from aisle to aisle to see which lit aisle actually had a cashier and caught someone's eye to ask if I could check out. When I did, I interrupted a conversation that included no less than 5 people. It was then that I understood why the dude in the back was so irritated. Nutshell: I miss Publix, where shopping is a pleasure. read more

3 stars and a bunch of caveats. I go to this Kroger more than the one at Barracks Road simply because it's easier to get to on my way home. However, know that this store is inferior to the Barracks Road and Rio Hill Krogers. Why? Selection and ambiance. First, the produce and meat/seafood sections are noticeably smaller. And, while the produce section is usually well-stocked, the exact same can't be said for the meat/seafood section, although I've never been unable to find what I was looking for. As for the offerings in the rest of the store, they seem comparable to Barracks Road and Rio Hill. Note, however that this Kroger doesn't have sushi or a seating area in the deli, and has a smaller organic / natural products section as well. The store also suffers from being a little grungy and scuffed-up. I'm thinking in particular of the closed entrance on the left front of the store as one as walking in, and the fact that products are sometimes disheveled. All that being said, however, it seems awfully difficult to beat Kroger's prices. If this store is easier to get to than the others (or the Pantops / Seminole Square Giants (not a baseball team)) then I highly encourage you to partake. This store also, critically, has a gas station out front. Swipe your Kroger card and save. While five cents per gallon works out to something like less than a dollar preserved even on a fill-up, its nice to feel like you're getting the best deal on something. read more

Logical layout, very good prices and typically helpful staff in the front and pharmacy particularly. Dairy and deli, not so much, although a decent selection. This is my efficient, buying the staples Kroger. Shelves are usually well stocked. There really isn't a seafood section, although the natural food choices and pharmacy are nice. read more

Kroger cannot bother to post a sign saying "masks are mandated". Lots of customers without masks. No effort to sanitize carts. If an employee is off the clock, they do not have to wear masks even with name tags on. Manager told me that masks were only a mandate and not required. Needless to say I walked out and will not go back. read more

Cornered the market share of grocery stores in Charlottesville to include H.T. Poor customer service from Management on down. Poor product labeling, pricing and availability especially when on SALE. Could be much cleaner. Staffing is hit and miss. read more

This is a pretty mediocre Kroger. Limited selection in the produce dept. and meat dept. I got a grapefruit and when I got home to eat it it was mostly rotten inside. Probably won't go back to this one even though it is the most convenient to my house. read more

I've shopped at Kroger practically my whole life. However, I was disappointed when I move to Charlottesville and found the Kroger stores were in dire need of an update! I would love to have a Kroger Marketplace in Charlottesville!! The prices and deals can't be beat, plus if you use your Kroger card you can earn fuel points at Shell and/or Kroger gas (you can save even more if you work at UVA). While the produce section is hit or miss, at least it's better than Food Lion. The Kroger brand foods were easily comparable to the name brand for the most part. Parking/driving in Barracks Kroger can be a nightmare so if you're not in a hurry, go to the Rio Hill Kroger. read more

Glenn Wegmans opened up we were hoping that they would be better prices but it turns out Kroger is still on top. When you go into Wegmans they state things such as look at are cheaper prices than Kroger's but we've been Kroger Shopper so long we know that those prices are incorrect. The people here are very friendly I am happy to State all of the backers are nice including Tyree and Jason. This place is a neighborhood staple and has great prices. read more

I have come here for years, for most of our shopping, because the employees are all so pleasant. Best examples, just from this morning: Sean (Seafood) remembers what my mother and I have bought, what we like and he goes OUT OF HIS WAY to provide friendly advice and customer service. What a delight- to be recognized and spoken to warmly! Kyra at the self check- ditto. Always a cheerful remark and a warm, human-to-human experience. Feels personal...and they offer plastic bag recycling. Maybe not the fanciest grocery, but more than adequate. On a par with Reid's for friendly, warm service. read more

This is my go-to Kroger, mostly for convenience (it's on my drive home). The prices are better than other stores in town, especially when things are on sale for those with a Kroger card (plus, gasoline savings!) The produce department is hit-or-miss; I've found some great deals there but on average fresh fruit/veggies are cheaper and last longer from any of the myriad farmers markets in town. Actually, I've had better luck buying produce from the Costco in Northern Virginia and driving two hours home. The gas station is pretty straightforward to use. I've had occasional issues with it not printing a receipt, and it can get very crowded due to the location right off three of Cville's biggest roads. read more

I went to this Kroger on a Friday night at around 8:30pm. They didn't have any gummy snacks like sour gummy worms, gummy bears, etc. which is something I've never seen at a grocery store. I have never been so offended by an employee in my life. The woman behind the deli counter was so rude to me for no reason and threatened me about complaining to management. I left the store feeling very disturbed. I will never be going back to this store again. read more

Actual zombies shop and work here. I once saw a man stop his car---blocking two lanes of traffic---directly in front of the main entrance. He got out of his car, took his pants off, got back into his car, and then drove to a parking place...in broad daylight. Often, zombies will hover around this entrance, completely blocking any attempts to enter the store. Once inside, the store has a real "lived in" look. Maybe the zombies sleep there when it's closed? (Do zombies sleep?) Anyway, some of the staff are quite hostile. When they aren't cursing loudly at each other, they are complaining about some place called "Krogers." Also, the slightest criticism tends to send them into apoplectic fits of rage. Shop at your own risk, and remember to double-tap. read more

Selection is okay, but some of the staff are pretty unhelpful. There's one particular bagger that is almost hostile to people. Kroger does not excel in customer service. I usually do self-checkout to avoid the 'unpleasantries.' read more

I walked into kroger at 1045 to stroll through to find something to eat after a long day at work. I picked up some chicken tenders, 1 beer to go and some danishes for the morning. The woman at the self checkout asked to see i.d. and I happily obliged. She then asked if I had been drinking. I replied yes. she said she could not sell me the beer.because she smelled alcohol on me. I had consumed two beers at chili's after walking in just before they had closed and decided it would not be prudent to order food at that time. I explained to the woman the scenario and she told me once she made the decision that it was final. I respectfully asked for a manager and she said there was none present. I left with nothing. I understand the policy, however I think management should teach and allow those who run the store and make decisions that can influence public perception while they are not available to take into consideration appearance, attitude and what the individual is purchasing. I for one will never shop at kroger again due to this single experience. read more

Today was the last time I will ever go to this Kroger. The staff members are rude and unhappy... and the list goes on. When I walked into the produce area, two employees were talking about another employee and how irritated they are with him. They were yelling, acting mad, and they did not seem to care that they were whining and gossiping in front of a customer. Then I was starred at and talked about by another employee within ear-shot. (FYI: I was wearing a bulky coat, running shoes, and jeans...nothing odd). THEN, I was standing in line to check out, and the lady behind me told me "I think there are better things to spend your money on than those magazines," criticizing me for buying two magazines. Then she told me that she "doesn't know what I am going to do when Jesus comes." ...and what is WORSE is that the cashier lady chimmed in and AGREED with this crazy lady!! REALLY?!... the employees AND the customers are NUTS here, and very unprofessional. I will do my grocery shopping elsewhere... read more
