I just had something happen that feels like corporate/government overreach and I did NOT like it!
I went to Kroger's in Bluffton about 9pm to get the items on my list for going camping this weekend.
Checkout girl was almost done when she stopped and said you can't buy both of these paper items (Dixie cups and paper plates, both generic, not 2 of anything like I might be hoarding during a shortage).
I didn't understand and she said it again and added "you have to choose one".
I said so what is my punishment if I don't obey the rule?
She said I can't ring up both.
I just couldn't obey. I said, "I know it's not your fault but you tell Kroger management that they have lost a loyal customer. I will leave this whole order here and walk out of your store rather than choose between 2 paper items when I really needed them both!"
And I did just that.
It was obvious the girls checking and bagging had no training about this issue or how to deal with a customer about it. They did not offer to call the manager or problem solve in any way.
I am 67, have severe arthritis pain and could not face the option of buying one then going to another register for the 2nd paper item.
I filed a complaint with customer service online that same evening. Next day I got a courtesy call from an office in Ohio saying they received the email and were passing it on to customer service.
Nothing since then. read more
