Pros: Nice Starbucks manager (Dean). Occasionally good sales. Cons: Restrooms are filthy. Many expired products on the shelves. Poorly stocked in several departments (e.g., always out of Kroger brand half-n-half). Very few employees to help customers. Typical Krogers very clean and large. I had to stop for my Sourdough Pretzel Nugget fix. Clean bathrooms courtesy and helpful staff. Large health food section I would definitely stop again if in the area and had a need. read more

Kroger does not help employees get paid on time if you're new. I am an employee and have been waiting to receive my paycheck since may 16th and have not been paid for two weeks of work. Two different managers tell me two different things and still no pay for my work. I recommend going to a store that cares about employees and do not recommend applying for this location. read more

Wish I could give it zero. They are refusing to give me my medication- which I've been on for years all because they think I have to have a driver's license. There is no law in Ohio that says you have to show an ID, much less a specific ID. I gave them a photo ID, but they still refused to give me the meds. These aren't meds I take for fun. It's necessary for me to be able to sleep. They are engaging in a power struggle with me because one of the techs has a burr up her ass, and the pharmacist is helping her keep it there. I've misplaced my drivers license. It will turn up eventually, but I need my medication now. So they get a zero rating. They supposedly strive to make the prescription experience easy. Store has disastrously gone down hill over the years. What was once a pleasant shopping experience has been replaced with distain. The staff is overworked and understaffed and the company doesn't seem to care. To no fault of the workers at the store, they are overall great, outside of the few token jerks that continue to amaze me by their continued employment. This is a middle-of-the-road Kroger. It has everything you need, including Starbuck and a fuel station. The best quality of this store is the relationship it has with the local farms. I particularly enjoyed the constant supply of locally raised lamb. I can't find that at the Kroger by my new home. The only thing keeping this from being the best Kroger I've seen is that it isn't huge and doesn't have a full time cheese specialist or a furniture store. read more

Best grocer in Athens, especially for those with a Kroger card (free to get). Good sushi (although for REAL sushi, go to China Panda). Awesome deli, amazing meat department, friendly workers, awesome prices. Only grocer with local organic section, including Snowville Creamery's fantastic milk. I have to give these people credit. No matter how rude and incompetent my vet's office is in refilling my dog's puppy prozac prescription, the people at Kroger manage to hang in there until it's right. I'm not sure why my vet is suspicious of my desire to procure puppy prozac dosed for a 15 pound animal, but their office treats each refill attempt like a potential high crime situation. The folks at the Kroger pharmacy patiently make the several calls it takes to get my dog's drugs handled in an efficient manner, ensuring my lifelong customer loyalty and praise. A very nice Kroger's. Fresh produce and good meat selection. They have a sushi bar and a good cheese/deli bar. There is a Starbucks inside for those who like to overpay for bad coffee. A very good overall store. read more

Krogers is often a very busy store, particularly in late afternoon on a weekday. That being said, I was surprised to see that the door located on the left of the main entrance was removed. I specifically parked my door on the side of the busy parking lot near to the pharmacy and now non-existent door. Noisy crowds with slow moving carts are a major pain the a**, and I had used the secondary door as a quick escape from the madness. I guess that more space was needed for employees pushing carts of food out to parked cars. I am very disappointed that quick access to this store has been blocked. read more

My favorite part of this grocery store was the build your own six pack beer selection. Almost 200 different ones to choose from and appropriately priced for that type of convenience. I love trying new beers so this was a great stop on a recent trip I took. read more

I have always loved this Kroger, it has always been by far above average as far as grocery stores go. It keeps specialty foods in stock that may not be found at other grocers and it supports the community by selling local produce/goods. Yet, for about the last 5 months every time I go there I too frequently leave frustrated by common items not being kept stocked. Every time I go there and search for something I bought the previous week, knowing just where to go to get in and get out, I can count on one of the items not being stocked. These items are as simple as the steel cut oats in the bulk food supply buckets. At first I brushed it off thinking this never happens, but now it has become routine and expected. Kroger please fix this!!! I really do not want to change grocers. read more

one of the nicer krogers i have ever been in, and the sushi is the best part, though certainly not the best sushi in athens. they don't allow the starbucks barristas to accept tips, which is outrageously offensive to me as someone who used to make coffee for a living. the employees are generally pretty nice. the produce ranges from surprisingly good once in a while to depressing and suspect a lot of the time. after hundreds of dollars spent on sale items and kroger brand products, we've learned to stay away, as these are all generally really disappointing. if they aren't charging their (high) full price for something, there is definitely a reason. and i'm not even going to touch the "manager's special" items, which are generally about to expire, but are conveniently labelled with a bright orange and yellow "manager's special" label that just screams "DANGER! DANGER! DANGER!" it's the best grocery store in town, unfortunately, but i am praying for a trader joe's to move to town. kroger's prices on good to decent cheese are absolutely ridiculous. read more
