The minute we walked in we were greeted by Jiří (George) zipping around behind the espresso machine making a lovely Turkish espresso, seating patrons at tables, taking orders, turning on some amazing Pink Floyd while he hands you an English menu! This year I was there for my birthday and I wanted to take out for lunch my grandmother so our party included our teenage daughters my granny, my aunt, my fiance and myself; 6 people in all. Before I even decided to go to Kocanda I asked several local relatives and friends for a place they could recommend. Almost all of them told us to come here that the food and beer were good and the prices affordable. We sat outside with a wonderful view on the river and the green hills. The service was very friendly and the food was good. It was not gourmet food, but the kind of genuine typical food you'd expect to get in a Czech "hospoda". We were so happy, that we decided to go eat there one more time before we left from Czech. Both times we were satisfied. The second time my platter arrived when everybody else were almost done with theirs but that can happen. In reference to some previews reviews, something I would have not done was to order Mexican in a Czech restaurant and expect it to be great. When I visit next year I'll go back to Kocanda, I like the fact they have a big playground for children and it seems to be well known in the area. When you travel around the world you want to go eat where locals eat, not where tourists eat...right?!

After leaving the ferry, we found it so easily in Bad Schandau. The staff was so friendly! Their English was not so good, but they were so helpful and helped make the experience fabulous by directing us to the local sights. The rooms were large and very comfortable; ours overlooked the street. Breakfast came with the room and was simply amazing! It was a huge spread of delicious meats, cheeses, breads, fruits. Dinner was ok, not really special. But the beer was great! For US travelers who don't want to see other Americans, this is a great choice.
