I had a physical there in June and another visit a couple of weeks ago because I had some additional medical issues. In both of these appointments, the treatment I received from Dr. Chung was awful, and came nowhere near the standard of care one would expect from their primary care physician. Your health and wellbeing are so important - which is why it's so important that you never become a patient of Dr. Chung's. On my first visit, the annual physical, Dr. Chung spent a total of 4 minutes in the room if I'm being generous. After going through the regular PCP motions, he asked me if I had any questions or concerns about my health, of which I had a few and wanted to ask him about. But when I did attempt to ask him about each of these concerns, he rebuffed me, saying he didn't have time to address them and that I would need to make another appointment to address these issues. At probably every doctor's visit I've ever had in my life, the doctor asks if you have any further questions or concerns. Whenever I replied, all of the doctors tried to address my questions and concerns in some way - a little advice, a prescription, a referral, etc. - until this appointment with Dr. Chung. I was stunned, and I still am. So I made a follow-up appointment and had it a few weeks ago, in which I wanted to talk about 4 concerns, 3 of which I put in the notes in the request for the appointment, so that the doctor would know exactly what I was coming in for. Though I won't reveal the exact medical issues, I could've told you before the appointment that what I needed for each of them was a referral to a specialist. When I showed up to that appointment, however, Dr. Chung started the conversation by saying, "There's no way we're going to get through all of these issues. I have time for maybe 2." When I asked why we couldn't get through all the issues, he said that he just didn't have time to get through them all in one appointment. He then told me - again - that another appointment would be needed to address the other 2 issues. So, once Dr. Chung's primary goal had been achieved -- negotiating down the number of my issues he was going to address so that he could force me to have to come back and get to bill for another appointment -- Dr. Chung finally started working on what is the primary goal for every other doctor, but only the secondary goal for him: figuring out the best way to treat my medical problems. Sure enough, when Dr. Chung actually allowed me to speak and tell him about each of these problems, he quickly agreed that each issue had to be addressed with a referral to a specialist. Dr. Chung actually spent almost the entire appointment on his computer searching for the doctors in my plan's network that he refers patients to. In total, he probably spent about 15 minutes with me in the room, but it was spent searching for 3 doctors who his office apparently refers patients to all the time. On the second doctor, whose name Dr. Chung couldn't remember, I started to search myself in order to speed things up so that there would be a chance of addressing more of my issues. I found the doctor he was thinking of on ZocDoc within 30 seconds. So, despite his best efforts, Dr. Chung actually was able to issue 3 referrals instead of just 2. To add icing to the cake, one of the specialists he referred me to has moved and no longer works at the practice, so I will have to get a different referral for that one, too. For the last issue - which I guarantee will simply require a referral to a specialist - I would have to make another appointment - again, not because the medical issues need more time to address than can be fit in a single visit, but because of ineptitude with a basic computer function. Thankfully for me and my health, I will not allow him to pull the same trick again. Dr. Chung provides an unacceptably poor level of care. Whatever you do, don't trust him with your healthcare.

I've been seeing Dr. Barber for a few months now for migraines. He is easily one of the, if not the…read morenicest doctors I've ever received care from. He is patient, friendly, soft-spoken, and really takes his time to relay information and address any questions and concerns you have. The intake session was especially thorough and lasted almost an entire hour. You can tell he is passionate about his work and is a real people-person; always visibly smiling underneath his face mask. I had switched to him after a horrible experience with another practitioner within the same hospital network. Where a prior authorization for a medication took many months (and was still denied) due to her staff's incompetence and unresponsiveness, the exact same authorization only took a few days to a few weeks to receive approval, thanks to the efforts of Dr. Barber and his team. In another instance, my insurance denied coverage of a procedure and Dr. Barber addressed it immediately by getting on the phone and speaking with the rep himself. The matter was resolved the same day, in time for my appointment the following week. A subsequent authorization was also processed quickly with his staff being communicative with updates throughout. I really couldn't ask for anyone better than Dr. Barber, what a blessing!

I didn't know retaliation against a patient for posting a partly negative review was something a professional who had collected a substantial amount of fees for services from my appointments was a real possibility, but there it is. I was previously going to the same primary care doctor in NYC for ten years with no problems before I had to switch because of insurance. I have been going to the same dermatologist for years and we have a really good relationship also. Three "not currently recommended" reviews for another of the four Village Park doctors tell very similar stories about the office staff. Word to the wise I guess. Dr. Bekhor teaches at nearby NYU and is no doubt highly knowledgeable and professional and concerned and seems to listen to the patient. He is relatively youngish and wears a dark suit all the time, something I've never seen before for an MD. He is often sitting behind his laptop when you enter and may not get up from behind it during the appointment. (All records are on computer, not paper, and previous computerized data about you from elsewhere might show up, which is a good thing.) If you bring up something new that might make an appointment last more than a certain time you may find you have to make another appointment and come back next week. Yes, I was a bit taken aback when that happened The practice also has several other doctors. I got an initial appointment fairly quickly and the office is conveniently located a block from the West Fourth station. Like a lot of NYC doctor offices, the office is very cramped for the number of employees and the examination rooms are as small as they could possibly be, as is the tiny bathroom. The copier is in the waiting area about two inches from the chairs. I have had to go to various NYC doctors and dentists and most staff and doctors are great. But like in some other NYC doctor offices, some of this staff seem rather less professional than they might be - much more so than I've experienced elsewhere. The receptionist likes to play Spanish pop music on her computer speakers (or small radio of some kind) and seems to prefer gossiping with staff members and making personal phone calls and opening snacks to greeting patients or doing much of anything beyond the bare minimum, and then only with the clear attitude that you might be interfering with her busy life with your presence. She talks loudly in Spanish all the way down the hall to other staff so everyone in the waiting room can hear, if not understand. When you arrive don't expect a greeting or a smile or even any indication she is aware of your presence. Do expect to stand at the counter for some time waiting while watching any or all of the above. I unfortunately had to provide some medical documentation to a federal agency under some time pressure and eventually was referred to a Leilani, after she did not return my phone call and the office did not manage to call another doctor all day after previously not taking care of the issue for a week. She seemed to be much more about being rude and very defensive than complying with any requests in a timely or accurate manner. Later requests in person in the office for records being sent or received from other doctors or to the agency were handled efficiently and in a friendly manner by I believe the same person. A week later I called back and was transferred to three different women, none of whom seemed to know anything except that the document was not there. Usually I was abruptly transferred without a word. One of them just hung up. The last one finally said I had to talk to someone who wasn't there. I was in no way verbally abusive, but just flatly stated the facts. I was an EMT-B for six years and have worked a long time for a federal agency where most of my job is dealing with the general public in person and on the phone in often very busy circumstances, so I don't think I have super unreasonable expectations about either medical providers or customer service. I am expected to be and am polite and as efficient as possible even with the very occasional rude or hostile customer. The other comment here about administrative support at this office being "a bit of a mess" is certainly more than true. But at this point I can't give anyone the benefit of a doubt or chalk it up to being too busy. More like too incompetent, rude, and uncaring. I would strongly suggest hesitating before making any doctor in this office your primary care doctor.

The doctors here seem pretty engaged with patient care - they're not yet thinking about nothing other than their retirement. The front desk staff is nice enough, and if you're nice to them first, that goes a long way. I never understand what they say when they leave me a message, but I always have my appointment reminder card handy so I know if I'm going to have an appointment or not. They office is also very responsive to email requests for prescription items/authorizations when your insurance company is being silly/stubborn, so I appreciate that.

My appointment was at 1130 but I wasn't seen till 12:20, no big deal. I'm used to waiting for doctors. I appreciate the nurse who called me she was very polite. Awesome type of care I received. The room I was waiting in was very clean, see photos. If you're worried about other people hearing you speak with your doctor, then this isn't the location for you. Bathroom Alert: The bathroom was super clean. I like how it was cleaned right after I used it. I am happy knowing I won't get an infection from the bathroom. I like the nurse who helped me when I had to draw a urinalysis. She explained everything in detail. She walked me to the bathroom just in case I had to faint. I greatly appreciate her. I appreciate how patient she was with my responses. I didn't get to see my regular doctor, so I needed to see her PA. I appreciated the type of care I received from her. It's a wonderful thing to not have to sit and wait hours and hours in the physician's waiting room whilst pouring over old tattered magazines on the coffee tables of yore. Plus, with the convenient NYU Medical App on my smartphone: (1.) my appointment was confirmed a week prior to (2.) I was able to fill out those hundred page forms asking for my life's memoirs with my medical history dating back to my grandparents. So convenient in every way! I was recommended by my mom (who is 60+) and despite having completely different issues/concerns Dr. Wang is helpful regardless of what's going on, and he passes 0 judgement. That's what I look for in a doctor. He genuinely has your best interest at heart and does not overprescribe medication. He will give you options and help you decide what the best course of action is. He takes everything you say into consideration when making decisions. Whether a yearly physical (which I hadn't been to in 3 years, but not one complaint about my lack of yearly attendance) or a sick visit I will go back to Dr. Wang for anything and everything. Plus he will text you with your lab results at 1130 pm as soon as they come in rather than you having to reach out. A true professional.
