    Crab legs and onion rings
    Jodi B.

Kretzer's is about an hour away from STL. The restaurant is in a small town that doesn't seem to have much else. The drive is absolutely worth it for all you can eat crab legs! They have daily specials and you can find them on their Facebook page. Today we had a wonderful server named Shannon. She was on top of checking on us and keeping our drinks full. She also brought us more hot butter The legs are all you can eat for $54.95 and you get two sides the salad bar can be one of those sides as well. As we were leaving I noticed they had several frozen drink machines and the flavors looked so good! Dreamsicle Daquiri- yum! I really wished I had seen them when we got there. Another time!

Thank you yelp! Found this restaurant on our way home from a long road trip and the food was great! Staff is friendly and our waitress April was on it! Great service and checked on us often.

Went on a Wednesday for "cheap" crab legs. Still $45 but worth the money. All you can eat crab legs. Kinda insane. Forgot to picture mine but my husband liked the Mac n cheese and potato. I enjoyed the green beans and my son liked the fries! The service was amazing! It was super busy but girl knew what she was doing and did it well. I expected a much longer wait for drinks and food but didn't have to. She rocked it. I got her name but can't remember it Ambiance is a country restaurant. It's loud in there but not so loud you can't talk amongst yourselves. Bar seemed like a cute date area. Definitely busy but worth whatever wait you have to get

This place is awesome! Great atmosphere, super friendly staff, good service, and the food was amazing! Highly recommend the catfish nuggets and a trip to the salad bar!

Food was hot and fresh. Did not have the king crab when we came but everyone enjoyed the regular crab. Service was helpful with my large group. A veryyyyyy casual restaurant.

Great salad bar! A lot of food for the money. Always busy. Crab legs are what they are known for but everything is good with large portions.

Good selection and staff was top notch.. we always enjoy their salad bar and their homemade pork rinds!

Crab legs showing one in our party who was really fast at cracking and the other (me) not that fast.

Six of us went for all you can eat crab legs today and had a wonderful time. You get two sides and the salad bar was a side you could choose. The salad bar offered a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as potato salad, pea salad, broccoli salad, and couple of different pasta salads. Broccoli salad was my favorite. I chose onion rings as my second side and the others chose Mac and cheese and potato casserole. My onion rings were fantastic and the others raved over theirs. I was amazed when the server brought our first trays of crab legs. They started us off with 6 clusters each. I finished mine and had 2 more. This was more than I've had, but the others had 10, 12, 15, and I think 16 was the most in our party. There was a table of 3 guys who were cracking crab legs when we first sat down and were still there when we finished, so I know we didn't break any records. Needless to say, these crab legs were wonderful. Perfectly salty almost sweet with butter or garlic butter or Cajun butter. It was incredible. It was so good we had the server going back and forth several times taking away shell buckets bringing more fresh steamed crab legs. He was very friendly and attentive. At the end of our meal, we had a birthday celebration and several tables of people joined in and one of the tables shared they were also celebrating a birthday. The restaurant was comfortable, spacious, and full of warm neighborly feels.

I've been staying in the area to do some deer hunting and have eaten every lunch and dinner here for 5 days now. Absolutely amazing, everything for 5 days. Best salad and soup bar I've ever had. Hamburger Steak Plate WOW, Catfish Nuggets, enough for two, Philly Cheese Steak one day Chicken Cheese Steak the next, Fried Chicken, Ribeye Steak w Baked Potato. Today for lunch in the cold rain, "Lasagna Soup", yep delicious! All you can eat crab legs daily-that's for dinner tonight. More to come over the next few days. The Kretzer's Ownership and Staff are the best in the world. Go try it out, you wine regret it! Back tonight for all you can eat Crab Legs, Most Delicious!

Tried Kretzer's for the first time today. It was quite good. The dining room is very large (over 25 tables), well light, clean and decorated in a rustic style. Lots of room for large groups. Our server was extremely attentive and checked in on us milt times. I had fried chicken, baked potato and baked beans. My wife had catfish nuggets, baked potato and salad bar. All were very good. Portions are huge. I think we will each get 3 meals out of each dish. The chicken and catfish were not greasy at all. I think there used to be a little bit of heat worked into the batter. It's a place that I would definitely return to, even if it is very out of the way.

Great amount on the first plate....

And, the manager didn't seem interested in customer feedback disappearing during this proceds. The most unfortunate thing is they didn't comp the meal but only wanted to send a steak home to- go after all their mistakes and everone else had finshed their meals. I guarantee that will be the last time we visit Mascoutah Steak House. It's sad since it's one of the restaurants I look forward to when visiting the area. But, never again. Customers should leave feedback before the restaurant fails. So sad.

Neither was present when a group of six of us dined here yesterday. Let's be clear: Mascoutah Steak House is a "steakhouse" that only serves one actual cut of steak (a ribeye--and no, Salisbury steak is not a steak). We already had low expectations. The food itself was mediocre at best. The ribeyes ordered by our group came out looking grey with absolutely zero sear. I ordered the Cali salad; it looked fine, but it had a bizarre, sour flavor that was completely unidentifiable. While the food was disappointing, it isn't why I'm writing this review. The real issue was the glass of red wine I ordered. As I finished the glass, I discovered a huge fly sitting at the very bottom. I understand things happen, and I wasn't even going to make a scene. When our server took the glass back to the bar, I watched her. She looked into the glass with visible disgust. We made eye contact, and I mouthed to her, "Yeah, I drank out of that." Instead of apologizing, addressing the situation, or simply removing the drink from the tab, she avoided our table entirely. When the bill arrived, the wine was still fully charged. When I went to the bar to calmly explain the situation to another employee, I was met with total indifference. I was essentially told it wasn't their problem, though they generously offered a insulting 10% discount on the glass. This isn't about a $6 glass of wine. It's about basic human decency and food safety. I shouldn't have to argue to get a bug-infused drink taken off my bill. If you value decent food, basic hygiene, and staff that actually cares about their customers, skip this place.

Other staff members checked on us several times so we were never lacting in anything. The stake I ordered (medium rare) which I always order came out very rare. If it was a little more done I would not have said anything. But someone from the kitchen stopped by the table and asked if I was ahppy with the tempature. I was nice about it and said, well not really, this seems very rare to me, not medium rare. WIthout complain he quickly took the stake on a side dish leaving the rest of myt meal to enjoy. Teo minutes laters a perfectly medium rare stake came out with a bit of char on the outside, hot and pink while still juicy inside. And it was a very good, very thick streak. Honestly I had wished I'd ordered a large cut. ANd isn't a great steak your looking for when going to a steakhouse?

Best pork chop of my life. Amazing mashed potatoes. The pickle fries? We ordered a second round of them; they were so good. The Italian lemonade (alcohol) was fantastic. Service was amazing. Half price apps when we came in. And prices of the food overall? Yall are getting Olive Garden prices for some of the best food you may ever have. I've had mashed potatoes at all the chain steak houses. I've had French fries everywhere. I've eaten at fairly fancy ritzy places in Vegas, NYC, San Francisco, San Antonio, Boston. All over. And literally this is some of the best food I've ever had. TRY THE PORK CHOPS. And we also appreciate being treated nicely even though my friend group was dressed up or goth girls night lol. We looked out of place but felt at home and left very very happy ladies.

The meat was quite odd, both in consistency and taste. If I had to guess, they took reject pieces from their steaks and ground them up, perhaps several days ago? You couldn't cut through it with a fork. It had a strange taste to it. It wasn't at a warm or hot temperature and tasted stale. The onions that they added were delicious, but way too minuscule in size and bulk to have any taste impact. The bun was ordinary, despite their raving and reliance on its quality, and it being a Kaiser roll. The burger lacked customary garnish. Why I order cheeseburgers at high end establishments? In part? I like the quality thick beefsteak tomato slice and crisp, fresh lettuce. Here? No garnish at all, just a patty with a little cheese and onion. If the patty was fresh black angus and juicy, without the weird consistency and taste present here, and had they lavished it with mountains of similar onion and more cheese? --The risky and odd approach to making a cheeseburger might have proven successful. For this cheese to suffice, it, too, would have needed to be more pungent in taste, and abundant in presence. You could barely taste it. The mashed potatoes were quite good but way too salty. I literally crunched down on some salt crystals. That's when you know there's inordinate salt. Weird service and rock hard chairs made this bizarre stop on the way to St. Louis/ Denver more painful to savor. What irritates me was that I had to order a Caesar salad just to obtain roughage. And when you take the $30 for the salad and burger combined into account? That's a lot for such an odd experience. In summary, anyone who watches and implements the Gordon Ramsay Fword cheeseburger recipe on YouTube will end up with a vastly superior cheeseburger. In this town, while I am visiting only, from what I've read and seen in reviews, I'd recommend instead the frosty mug for basic food along these lines. A $24 burger better be pretty darned special to attract this sort of tab. This was just weird, not great. Sorry, no photos.
