So fun. Great actors, so much good food. We didn't need to order the large dinner package, should've done à la carte. This was such a fun was to take a step back into history. This establishment has been here since the 1500's I believe and many famous historical names have enjoyed a beer and meal here. People who were walking by couldn't stop themselves from parking in front of the open air window to watch the show.
This was the first time I've eaten in an authentic Czech restaurant, and it was an awesome experience! The vibe is underground medieval pub- lots of stone walls, etc. We enjoyed that it was kind of a quiet place without loud music blaring. We ordered the goulash and the schnitzel which were both delicious! We only wished we had more people in our group so we could have tried more of the dishes. Service was prompt and they were helpful but did not hover. I appreciate that they inform you of how to tip because it saves the awkward experience of not being familiar with tipping practices in other countries. The prices were reasonable- I added a photo of the receipt to show current prices. I would definitely be a regular here if I lived in Prague!
Small, quaint local spot! Service was quick and friendly and the menus was translated also in English. Portions are generous and food quite tasty! It's off a small side street off main but definitely worthy of a visit if you want traditional Czech fare!
I am giving this experience 3 stars because the atmosphere is a 10 and we were able to snag a reservation the day before from a slightly rough around the edges server. The Prague white wine was good along with the beer and well that's where it went side ways. We ordered the cabbage soup, which tasted like absolutely nothing. Sorry, it's true. And the sausage and beer, was the best thing we had. The duck was drrrrrryyyyy. I was wishing I had ordered everything the other tables had ordered. I left hungry and a bit snockered because the food was meh. This is definitely a tourist attraction. Keep to the Mom and Pop organizations.

All we had was the paprika sausage and this is the best sausage I have ever had. I'm a bit of a sausage snob and I wanted more. It's served with a huge side of freshly grated horseradish and a side of mustard. The horseradish looks like shredded potatoes so be careful if you dive into that first. ...and the ambience is amazing and traditional quaint. Step back into the past and enjoy a pivo and a sausage.
We had been searching for an underground restaurant with the medieval vibe. Krčma is located close enough to the square but far enough for a break from the tourist feel. Since it is a small restaurant, we had a short wait. Being from Texas, the ambience was just what i was looking for from Prague. Darker lighting, drip candles near all the windows, a solo taper candle on the wooden table, an old paper book to sign as a traveler. The menu is all Czech food and good beer. They also had fruit flavored kecher which the bartender so kindly allowed us to sample on our departure. The other patrons there appeared to be locals so we knew we were in an authentic diner. The goulash was tasty with bread dumplings and red cabbage. My friend loved the duck. The other friend enjoyed the hearty garlic soup. Authentic.
We went the 5 of us and left very full. The portions are huge. We all loved the food. The duck, pig back knee and the steak were all good. They have the classic small/large beer selection between dark or light. The service was timely and polite. We really liked our server and enjoyed his recommendations too. Krcma is a basement that's been designed to look like the old watering hole and have a rustic dark environment. You can smell the damp basement as you walk in. They also have shows and performances there. I'd highly recommend this place.
Made a reservation for 7:30 on a Friday. The place was crowded, but they still sat walk ins which is nice to keep in mind. Very chill, cottage medieval ale house vibes. The food was great, especially for a traveler craving a home cooked balanced meal. We ordered cabbage soup and garlic soup to start, both were pleasantly surprised. We then had the pork schnitzel with mashed potatoes and a side vegetable salad (which was more like cold seasoned vegetables than a traditional salad with lettuce but still good.) We also tried the traditional Czech pickled camerbert cheese which was good, but I have nothing to compare it to as it was my first time trying. And the house wine was good too, nothing special but also not a hangover so I call that a win with house wine.

While visiting Prague with SF in the summer where it was record temperatures of 95 degrees, we didn't really have the energy to look up restaurants to eat. Especially when most restaurants don't have AC so you're literally boiling and sweating in your chairs waiting for your food. Thankfully one of my friends recommended this restaurant and it was actually located downstairs in a den type of feel, so it was much cooler to eat. It's a traditional Czech food restaurant with waiters that speak perfect English. So you don't need to worry about the language barrier. I ordered their beef with dumplings in gravy sauce while SF ordered their fried chicken plate with potatoes. We also ordered beer since it was our last night and it was only like $2USD. I asked them if they could make me a Radler since I love the Sprite and light beer combination while SF got their light beer. It came in these big jugs and our food shortly came out. I was a little disappointed by how little meat there actually was, but as I finished my dish, I got so full! The potatoes were perfectly cooked and the fried chicken had the perfect proportion of crust and meat. We lastly ordered their honey cake and wow so yummy! I definitely recommend trying it at least since it is a Czech staple. The whipped cream wasn't sweet at all which balanced with the sweet cake. All in all, try this place out when in Prague!

Saw the staff roll there eyes at costumers...well you are dealing with tourists what do they expect!? Then there is the food. The garlic soup was cold. It had good flavor but it was cold. Then the goulash...yuck. Dry meat. Odd flavor and served with ok potato pancake and sad break dumplings that tasted like white wonder bread. I'd say go just for a beer but it's not worth dealing with the staff for just that.
Dinner in the dungeon. Cool place, great vibe, good service and plenty of good food and beer. Portion is huge so adjust your order accordingly. Excellent beef goulash with crispy hash browns, , gigantic pork back knee with plenty of pickle cabbage. Soup and rosemary bread are not the best. Drowned man sausage is spicy and sour. Just enjoy the atmosphere and beer. read more

Good spot to try authentic Czech/central european cuisine with a very medieval dungeon ambiance. I tried Goulash here for the first time, and the beef was perfectly tender and soft. The potato pancakes were delicious and crispy. Not much in the way of vegetarian options, my vegetarian friend ended up ordering what was basically a huge plate of fried cheese and tartar sauce (which honestly was not bad). We had an early dinner, so the place was completely empty and the food came out immediately. The wine was pretty good, although they had a bit of a fly problem and I ended up fishing out a few small flies from my glass. Overall glad we tried this place a bit more tucked away and off the main tourist path. Would recommend! read more

Very cool place with really good vibes. Drinks were solid as well as the food. We tried almost everything and would suggest all of it except the ribeye. It was very chewy and almost impossible to cut. Everything else was top notch and very good! Would recommend if in the area! read more

As many reviews have started out, this place is a rustic cellar type atmosphere where you enter going down some stairs through older double wooden doors. The seating is dimly lite by candles everywhere and tables in two tops to larger group settings. Some seats nestled in quaint secluded areas that allows for people watching. I was seated toward the front area and service was on point for me. I found the food to good to ok. The beef goulash was probably 3 stars in that the protein was way overcooked and the dumplings are not what you find in the u.s. but how they do it over in Europe. The Hungarian style sausage was very good and recommend that dish, while the honey cake again was a 3 star dish. If you're ever in Prague suggest giving this place a try. read more
My friend and I came here after our walking tour of the city with Discover Prague. Our tour guide, Ashley, recommended it. He also gave us cards that entitled us each to a free shot of slivovitz! This was our first true meal in Prague, and Ashley recommended Krcma as it could offer us authentic Czech cuisine at a good price. Truthfully, every place we had Czech food it came at a very good price! A couple other people from our tour also followed his direction and we saw some from our group here. That worked out well! We were able to be touristy and help each other take group pictures with our free shots! The restaurant is on a side street, and is partially below street level. It has a lot of character and old world feel. Which miiiight be a tourist gimmick, but also maybe not. Either way, I liked the atmosphere. The bathrooms are also cave-y and strangely charming. I got the goulash, a Pilsner Urquell and a plum slivovitz. My friend and I shared the fried cheese, which came with potatoes and tartar sauce (?). The goulash was so good! The serving was massive! And the raw onion was awfully pungent...I thought it was actually cabbage and put a big piece in my mouth...and nearly died :-P Beverages could not be argued with! Service left a little to be desired, but after nearly a full week in Prague it seemed to be in line with the norm for service providers in the city. They have WiFi, the food is tasty and the beer is cheap. And it is a little off the beaten path (aka: not directly in Old Town Square). I would certainly recommend it for an authentic Czech meal! read more

Stumbled on this place on our first night in Prague on a walk around Old Town Square, this place was also ultimately recommended by our AirBNB host and was fairly well rated on Yelp. I'm not totally sure why this is the case though. The ambience is kind of cool if you're willing to overcome the vague feeling that it's kind of gimmicky; the restaurant is located below ground in a medieval feeling room. There are long wooden tables that, if you are a small group or the place is crowded, you can expect to share with other diners, which I'm personally okay with. Their beer - not as good as other places I have been to (i.e.: strahov). The beer here is slightly more hoppy and acidic than is my preference and the food is hearty but nothing special. The goulash was not as flavorful as other places (i.e.: Mincovna), although the dumplings were good, smothered in sauce. We also made the mistake of ordering a salad in an attempt to avoid scurvy during this trip, and it was kind of the most pathetic salad I have ever had. A few greens thrown together in a small cup that is probably also alternatively used for ice cream desserts. Overall, probably overrated in terms of quality of food, there are better restaurants out there, although the ambience is kind of unique. read more

don't come here. duck was the driest i've had in my life. cabbage soup lacked flavor. service was alright. much more expensive than we expected than it was worth. fries were sadly the only redeemer :/ read more

Krčma is a medieval "gimmicky" pub that sells Czech dishes and beer. The service was decent besides the fact they requested I tip in front of me, which was very awkward, obviously targeting me as a tourist. There the wooden "medieval" pub vibe under ground and normal benches outside. The price point is decent. Would be a 3 if it wasn't for them making under duress to tip. Ordered: Goulash made beef pieces and potato pancakes - stew was thin and salty, the beef pieces were tough, but the potato pancakes seemed pretty good. To be honest, there is a big potential but the services is simply too unfriendly. We were 7 Person, asking friendly for a table. They put us on 2 tables for 4 people while there was a big table empty right across us. I asked if we could change but they just said "people are coming" Turns out there where no people coming! The food was actually very good as well as the location. But it's not all about the food! read more

Sent a note earlier about the location! Great atmosphere, food and service! Restaurant downstairs with wooden tables, candle drip covered walls and candles on the Jakob was excellent, good attitude, friendly and accommodating! Menu had Czech favs, meats, starters and salads. Table! Went for the goulash and my wife opted for the pork tenderloin with camabert and cranberries! Had to try the Hungarian Sausage with cream sauce and horseradish! Excellent! read more
I love the ambience and atmosphere of this restaurant. The decor makes is looks like you have step back in time in the 18th century. Food is awesome, traditional Czech cuisine. Must have the Czech Style Steak. Service very warm and the staff very inviting. Price is very inexpensive. read more

Great typical Czech restaurant. The restaurant looks like a tavern. Meals are good and generous. Located right next to the very touristical Old Town Square, prices are really interesting (compared to what I ate in other restaurants). If i could, I would return to this place. read more

Amazing food and good service! We had the warm starter 'smelly' beer cheese, a spinach and potatoes main course dish and marinated beef with root vegetables in creamy sauce and everything was excellent! Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a nice authentic yet not overpriced experience. read more
Food was delicious and filling. I especially loved the ribeye steak - it was savory yet a little crunchy on the outside. The cabbage with cream on the side was also fantastic. This place is a must-visit for Czech food in Prague. read more

This is definitely not the place you want to go in summer, especially when its hot. We went there for lunch and we almost suffocated- no air conditioning, not even fanning. We were dripping sweat. However, the atmosphere of this little half basement restaurant is thrilling and makes you feel like you really are a part of a medieval traktir. The food tastes great and the portions are gigantic, we had to take half of our food together. And the prices are actually very democratic. So if you wanna go and try good local food-this is a place to go. Just make sure its not hot outside. read more
