After working on it for a bit he brought me back down for an update: there was a lot more water damage than we expected. We made a new plan to replace more of the frame. There were a couple more surprises that kept expanding the job (more rotten wood, an old rats nest in the wall above the removed window, brick damage caused by the rotten beam bowing and not supporting the bricks above the window properly). The job ended up being a lot bigger and more expensive than expected (2.5 day job rather than 0.5 day; billing is by the hour and very straightforward), but I couldn't be happier with the work and the process. They closed all the holes in the walls (no more air coming in) where the old convectors were located; they repaired the flooring so that it looked seamless; and they installed baseboards to mask the gaps left by the new convectors, which were a slightly different size than the previous ones. (The convectors were installed by a different company, so they coordinated with them nicely). They also installed a brand-new lighting fixture on the bedroom ceiling (lots of concrete drilling involved), hung a metal shelf in the bathroom, and closed all the holes in the kitchen left by the previous contractor when the kitchen was remodeled.
