If you're having a wander around Golders Green, it's not very likely you'll stroll passed Kosher Kingdom, which is towards the Brent Cross end of Golders Green Road, under a 10 min walk from the tube station. (If you walk via this route, pick up a gelato from Bella del Gelato on the way!)
I'm not Jewish, but I am always up for eating!! A blip on my Twitter feed one night showed a vegan user's bounty. My jaw dropped. Faux meats and coconut ice creams from my native US had been a short train ride away from me all this time! I retweeted, grabbed another expat, and went as soon as possible. The ripple was felt and soon there was a plague of vegans making their own pilgrimage to "The Kingdom".
Kosher Kingdom has a smaller shop front, but once inside, it goes quite far into the back. Let me quell your fears now: Yes, there are many Jewish people with "traditional" Jewish clothing items on. No, they don't care you're here. And once you see the treasure trove of goodies, any self-consciousness goes out the window. (Did you see the girls hugging and screaming in front of the Tofurky sausages? That was me).
Here are vegan-y things that may interest not only vegans, but veggies and also dairy / egg-free people (and the rest of you foodies!):
fresh sushi; Cheese puffs; goldfish crackers; 800 types of hummus; 10 types of falafel; Tofurky brand sausages, hot dogs and the deli slices; cornettos; ice cream bites; viennettas; coconut, rice, and almond ice creams; simulated chicken fat; whipped cream; millions of cookies; Fry's frozen range; Dr Prager's frozen range; swedish fish, candies, chocolates, granola bars, white chocolate chipes, butterscotch chips, graham crackers and graham cracker pie crusts....etc.
Plus lots of gluten free items, crazy crisps and snacky things, juices, and my fav- Israeli couscous! They really pride themselves on getting items not available anywhere else, so you will find lots of things from the US & Canada there too.
They also have standard household goods, candles, Jewish books and music, Judaism for children items, all sorts of stuff.
There are also lots of good sales always going on, so keep an eye out! The floor staff are helpful and nice if you have any questions (my last visit he let me know when the next Tofurky shipment was coming in).
My advice is to bring a cold bag and sign up for the Kosher Kingdom point card! read more
