We came to this bakery located in the Roman Jewish ghetto to find the famous Italian doughnut or ciambella. They have two shops literally around the corner from each other but only one of them has the doughnuts.
The doughnut is huge and has a nice hint of citrus or orange (not sure if this entirely correct but that's the flavor profile I got) and it's coated with sprinkled sugar. It's simple but really good. I'm not a doughnut fan per se, but it was definitely worth the try and inexpensive (1 euro per doughnut). Perhaps some Americans may find these ciambelle less appealing as they're not the usual doughnuts found in the US loaded with all kinds of different toppings, but if you can get over that, you'll enjoy a nice treat. read more
