SO connecting Queens to Brooklyn the Kosciuszko Bridge is also one of the newer bridges in NYC with both directions complete in 2019 It replaces many crossing over the years. It was a bit crowded and the lanes pretty narrow for the moving van i was in but the crossing was without incident. It was also still light out so I was not able to get a glimpse of the changing color scheme that lights the bridge at night read more

After the renovation, the bridge in one way is easier to navigate, in another way it's not. Going into Queens, there are 5 lanes. One lane coming from WillyB (assuming drivers merge properly and not cross the painted median), three lanes from BQE and one lane to exit Metropolitan Ave. If you don't pay attention and change to the correct lane, you will miss the LIE exit though you can still get to the BQE exits since there is a concrete divider. Going into Manhattan, there are 5 lanes with the 2 right lanes required merging. Either way, there is still congestion or slow downs during the merging in rush hour and depending on the sun location. At night, the steel cables are lit up with colors. Each night the colors are different. In the beginning, there is too be a light show. Now, it's 1 solid color. Pedestrian walkway is great. It's an easy hike from Sunnyside, Queens to Greenpoint, Brooklyn. It's about a mile walk. Brooklyn puts you in the residential area. Queens puts you by the cemetery or the industrial area. The Kosciuszko Bridge was originally known as the Meeker Avenue Bridge. It's a cable bridge over Newtown Creek in New York City that connects Greenpoint in Brooklyn to Maspeth in Queens. The bridge consists of a pair of cable-stayed bridge spans: the eastbound span opened in April 2017, while the westbound span opened in August 2019. An older bridge, a truss bridge of the same name that was located on the site of the westbound cable-stayed span, was originally opened in 1939 and was closed and demolished in 2017. There's been many bridges on this site. That's called progress. The first bridge on the site was built in 1803. Can you imagine a history that goes back to a Wooden Bridge? The bridge connects Brooklyn to Queens {and vice versa). It was recently reconstructed and overhauled (over the last few years). I believe lanes were added to accommodate more vehicles. Which may seem like a good thing, but traffic in both directions is still horrific. One positive is, it looks very nice when driving over it in the evening........ So I'll give it an extra star for that. But like most major New York City roadways, open Queens expressway is a constant nightmare thereby removing some of the bridges beauty. read more

The new Kosciuszko Bridge that was built a couple years back is most definitely an improvement from the prior one - both ways - going into Queens and back into Manhattan. The different color lights every night makes it look pretty but make sure to pay attention and keep eyes on the road. Lanes are wider than at the old bridge which is helpful and usually doesn't take too long to get across unless there is an accident. Six lanes of traffic merging into 3-4 lanes depending where one is going is not the easiest to navigate as some drivers speed across. Note: Going into the city during sunset is not easy as the sun is directly in your line of sight so take it easy. read more

This is the new bridge that was constructed and opened in 2019 to much fanfare by a New York State Governor, who "sadly" is now disgraced and unemployed. I'm joking though about the. "sadly". Anyway, this a the replacement to the aged span that was here before which had become unsafe and was past it's lifespan as viable connector from Brooklyn to Queens. I have to say that the design of this bridge is quite impressive. The last one had a steep up and downgrade which did cause a lot of accidents and bottlenecks on each end. And, when it was raining, it was a nightmare. This one is a lot easier to drive over. I believe they light this bridge up at night in an assortment of rotating colors. You also get a nice and unobstructed view of the ever changing Manhattan skyline, albeit briefly. As always however, traffic on the Brooklyn - Queens Expressway stinks and will stink FOREVER. The restaurant just opened on April 17, 2025. The spicy flavor is typical of Sichuan province. Probably the first restaurant in Brooklyn and this area. Some friends and I just enjoyed some dishes. The food is delicious and unique. If you entertain guests, it is very special. However, the drinks are not strong, need to adjust a little. Overall, the new restaurant is beautiful, clean and the staff is good. The food is delicious. We will continue to come back here. read more

If you're feeling under the Kosc, then why don't iuszko down to this bridge and it'll cheer you up. It's not the best bridge in the world, but it's absolutely gorgeous when they light it up in blue and red and purple and all that good stuff. It goes from Greenspoint Brooklyn into Maspeth near Long Island City and Astoria in Queens. It's absolutely vital, and in terms of the view from the bridge, is also one of the most beautiful bridges in the country when you look over towards Manhattan and see it all stretching out before you, with the graveyard in the foreground. Definitely one of the prettiest bridge views in the whole world, and one which I see all the time. But having said all of that, the surface on this road is a nightmare. It keeps disappearing and that's not good. Sinkholes. Potholes. Car damage. So it's five stars for the view and 1 star for how much damage will do to your car, but I rounded up to 4 because the view is just that good. read more

I remember the Kosiuszko Bridge vividly. The Kosciuszko Bridge is over Newtown Creek in NYC, connecting Greenpoint in Brooklyn to Maspeth in Queens. My father would navigate over it in our brown Plymouth Fury when I was a child, the rusted brown steel, massive potholes, and the chewed up roadway took us back to Brooklyn as we traveled from Yankee Stadium, the traffic on a Sunday afternoon was horrendous. The highest point on the bridge gave view to the 400-foot-tall red and white gas tanks that was built by Brooklyn Union Gas called the Maspeth Holders, because they were on Maspeth Avenue. They are no longer there, however I clearly remember I would peer down out the window at these massive tanks in awe. Fast forward. The Kosciuszko Bridge was revamped and updated, and flashes beautiful colors throughout the night sky, it is a masterpiece compared to the one that stood there years ago, four stars.... because the traffic is still horrendous, but the bridge is a wondrous sight. I travel over this bridge about twice a month. The original bridge was at the end of its life which was obvious when driving over it. The new bridge is a masterpiece and a pleasure to drive over it. The only issue is it's along the BQE. Do I have to explain? Well I will anyway. There is never and I mean never a time when traffic is light. Seems like there has been construction on the BQE for a decade or more, and the new bridge, which I had hoped would make a difference, has not helped. Well as far as I can see. Crossing Kosciuszko One, perhaps a hundred times from student to employee to fun seeker, paying no fee to cross always made it my go to bridge although it drops you in Greenpoint. Greenpoint wasn't always what it is today folks, it was a bit rough back when. The old gal was blown up last year, about this time and the future reads bright. One of the best capital improvements in NYC was the brand new Kosciuzko Bridge. The old bridge was a nightmare, the new bridge is vastly improved. The lanes are much wider, the bridge is not as steep, and it is aesthetically pleasing. What I like the most is that it has bicycle lanes. If you are in Queens you can access the path from 54th road. In Brooklyn you can access the path from Meeker Avenue. The path is wide, and it is not very crowded. read more

I have nothing against Tadeusz Kościuszko, but I would be rolling in my grave if they named this eyesore after me and neglected it for 80 years. True that it carries some of the highest traffic volume in the city between Brooklyn and Queens and is very hard to maintain because of that. Even so, the steel girders have withstood many years of wind, rain, snow and the worst that Mother Nature can throw at it. The roadway, however, has been beaten to hell and back by the millions of cars and trucks so that after a particularly harsh winter, the moon looks as smooth as a sheet of glass in comparison. This all translates to some of the worst traffic snarls known to mankind because this is the chokepoint for all the traffic coming from all 3 lower Manhattan bridges from the south and the Long Island Expressway, plus the 2 airports from the east. There is a light at the end of this tunnel because Governor Cuomo announced a bridge replacement to start in 2014. So here it is in 2015 and they are finally in full swing, with the road approaches nearly complete and the southwest concrete towers rising up on the Brooklyn side, you can see the progress as you cross the old span. The new fanning cable stay design even has a nice architectural aesthetic. Traffic is still going to be in the crapper for a while, but I feel optimistic like after going across the new San Fran-Oakland Bay Bridge for the first time. Now this bridge is a proper tribute to the Revolutionary War General. I can't wait. read more

This is the most fun I've had walking over a bridge whose name I can't pronounce. The walkway is not completely separate from the bike lane but there is more elbow room here than the Brooklyn Bridge walkway. The walking entrance on the Queens side is at a skate board park right between Calvary Cemetery and the Maspeth industrial area. Scenic views from Hellgate to the Freedom Tower. Fragrance from local dumps aren't as noticeable if you wear a virus protecting face mask. I would like to catch a sundown from here on a hot summer night when the suspension cables glow. Once we got on the Brooklyn side, ice cream and halal vendors awaiting, we cut west and kept on over the Pulaski Bridge (walkers and bike riders walled apart here) to LIC, picked up a couple of cold tall boys, and watched Manhattanhenge from the waterfront. About 3 miles total. Here's my question: If they kept the historic name from the old Kosc...Bridge why change the name of the Tappan Zee Bridge to the Mario Cuomo Bridge (or as the locals call it 'Fredo's Father's Bridge) ? read more

The new "Kosciusko Bridge" in Brooklyn is a vast improvement over its predecessor. The bridge it's isn't nearly as bulky as the old on, but it's twice as nice. The bridge itself is supported by orange cables and is a true reflection of how New York is improving it aging infrastructure. Traffic however will always be a headache specially after three o'clock, but it's part of the daily grind in the city. I use the bridge often and am truly happy to see change. The older bridge was safely demolished, but some of it still remains. Change takes time but it's good to see the city taking care of the thousands of little people that use it everyday. read more

One of my first memories as a city kid in the last century was of my father taking us out to Long Island from our apartment in Washington Heights and encountering the Kosciuszko Bridge on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway. The experience of my dad cursing the impossible traffic approaching the bridge, not to mention its frightening dragon-like design, left me quaking in my size 5 sneaks. It was easy to imagine being eaten alive by that monster. The roadway chewed up. The rust looking like dried blood from past meals. I remember asking if there was another way to get where we wanted to go. Angry, but undaunted, my father just gritted his teeth and told me to close my eyes and hang on tight (Right. No mandatory seatbelts back then). That sense of dread never left me, even as I grew up, and continued to cross that castle moat into middle age. Now, it is almost gone; to be imploded this summer, with a replacement constructed and carrying the 180,000 vehicles a day that once clogged the old KB. In a perverse way, I will miss the old gargoyle of a span. It always reminded me of childhood, and otherwise fun family times. As a parent, I told my son the story of the bridge, making sure he has a small dose of history and trepidation with each approach. Such are the makings of family lore. So, as a relic of an earlier age of traffic madness and engineering insanity, the old Kosciuszko Bridge was one of a kind. For all the memories, both in anger and fantasy, it deserves my five stars. It may be gone soon, but it will never be forgotten. read more

"Meh" What is there to say about any bridge in NYC? The Kosciuszko bridge has finally been put out of service and is now sitting next its new counterpart made of concrete and steel. Do I like the new span? Well for one its much wider and smoother but not attractive at all. The original span was a steel behemoth in all of its gloom. Gray, rusted, and decrepit give it the real NYC grit that many new transplants know nothing about. Change was inevitable for the span as it was in bad shape. Huge pot holes and broken rails were a common sight on each side of the span. Now this new bridge looks like it should be Florida or something. Just my 2 cents. read more

I can't wait for the construction at this bridge to finalize. I have never considered this a "bridge" because it's not. It's more like an overpass. I am sure many of you have heard the jokes of the Kosciuszko Bridge. Who thought this up? Anyway, it is a nightmare any which way. The Kosciuszko is where all things go wrong, and all cars go slow. the bridge with the funny polish name was my go to bridge when the bqe had typical traffic from brooklyn to queens. i would get off the mcginnis humboldt exit and make my way to this old looking bridge that connects brooklyn to queens in a few minutes with little or no traffic . the views are cool and its quicker to get to astoria in my opinion over the bqe most of the time. a few years ago octopus man cuomo had a new bridge installed and its better and safer with colorful lights shining on top. its a bridge in nyc folks and it serves its purpose well. read more

My 3 year old Grandson calls this the "dirty bridge". His opinion is based on the view from a car window rather than a hands on experience. My thought is that it is a steel bridge reminiscent of familiar structures from my youth. The feel is one of warmth & safety. One's vehicle is enclosed in what once served as an industry standard. The lanes are a comfortable width. Being terribly afraid of heights, I dread the bridges where you are so close that you can see over the side. White knuckles grip the steering wheel until safely on the other side of spans such as the Outerbridge. But we can say goodbye to the grand dame in early 2018. A glitzy modern suspension bridge parallels the span. Even now it overshadows the working bridge, tempting those who favor "tear down and replace". If one is driving, the focus is on navigating the narrowing to 2 lanes in each direction. But as a passenger, the gorgeous Manhattan skyline brightens your journey. Who could ask for more? read more

Well, this bridge is inevitable anyway because it connects Brooklyn and Queens, so why not just cope with it? You should be fine as long as you drive slowly and be alert. Look again at the first letter of each word and voila! You have the correct spelling. It's also pronounced "kuh" "jus (as in au jus)", "sko". Now that we've got THOSE lessons out of the way, let's talk about the bridge. It's a bridge. It has lots and lots of traffic. As a kid, I couldn't pronounce the name of the Polish general it is named after and referred to it as the "Whatsa Whatsa Bridge." Spent a month having to travel over the span and always had a great view as I sat in rush hour bumper to bumper traffic. Am glad it didn't"t work out. For years my husband insisted on listening to 1010 WINS radio every morning while we were living in Manhattan. I knew the traffic patterns of the whole tri-state area and I took the subway to work!!! What I remember the most from that morning chatter was the stupid ding ding ding ding background noise they had and that the traffic on the Kosciuszko was always screwed. Fast forward years out of the area and then we moved back to the area now living in Astoria and for the first times in our lives we own a car. Long story short - don't park an inch over a crosswalk in Queens or you will find yourself taking a cab -destination under the Kosciuszko to retrieve your car. Two negative memories aside, when the traffic isn't bad which is about 3 hours a day - this is a convenient way to travel between Brooklyn and Queens.
