I had never tasted Afghan food before, like a lot of people in the SLO County area I would guess. When I saw this new restaurant online, I decided to go. The flavors were delicious, and not quite like anything I had tasted before, but just good. As an appetizer on the table they had dried chickpeas, pistachios and some dried berries I liked a lot. I ordered the dumplings, with beef inside and topped with chickpeas (?) and pomegranate, with a side of yogurt sauce and lentils. An interesting tasty mix of savory with a little sweet. They also had a vegetarian dish option, though I didn't order it. In addition to the dumplings the chef brought me some pakora (?), which she said were fried spinach and potato fritters, with a delicious side sauce (maybe cilantro?)--these pakora with the sauce were my favorite, so good. I could have eaten a whole plate of those. The rice pudding dessert was also a treat, as was the green tea. The chef and hostess were super friendly and welcoming, and the seating area though a little small was nice and peaceful. It looks like they are currently only open Saturday 11am-3pm, but it was totally worth making the window of time!

Had an amazing lunch here. The menu is small, and we ordered one of each things available. It was all super unique and delicious. The women running the restaurant were lovely as well. Will definitely be back.

Salata- Afghani Salad. Cucumber, walnuts, radishes, tomatoes, red onion, pomegranate, cilantro, dried mint. So refreshing!

Gorgeous new spot in San Luis Obispo to enjoy Afghani cuisine. Open Saturdays 11-3 for lunch only. The food is amazing and unlike anything we have in SLO. We had 3 separate dishes and loved everything. The food is so flavorful, but light. The patio is like a little oasis. My kids loved the spiced chicken with rice and shredded carrots. The eggplant dish was cooked perfectly. Warm service and unique food experience. A hidden gem worth the planning to go.

Delicious food, and kind people! Ate at their Ancient Owl pop up and the dumplings and lentils were fantastic.

**Fun Review: Ventana Grill**…read more Oh, where do I even begin? My heart is heavy because I didn't snap a single picture of the culinary magic we experienced at Ventana Grill, but trust me when I say everything was sheer perfection! From the **homemade tortillas** that practically melted in your mouth to the **mojchate** that danced on our taste buds, every dish our party of 25 ordered was a hit! The **enchiladas** were bursting with flavor, and the **salmon**? Let's just say it swam straight from the ocean to our plates, full of freshness and finesse. And can we talk about the cocktails? They were nothing short of a bartender's dream! Each sip was a delightful adventure, crafted with love and creativity. What truly blew me away was the level of service. Ventana Grill went above and beyond, even bringing in a server on their day off just to ensure our massive party was taken care of. Talk about dedication! They treated us with such care and concern, making the night feel extra special. Overall, Ventana Grill is a culinary gem that I can't recommend enough. If you're looking for an unforgettable dining experience, look no further--just be sure to bring your camera, unlike me!

Only recommend it if you have a strong tummy. It came with 3 sauces which is nice. Service was fast and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed the view from the bar seats and the outside. They also have an awesome selection of cocktails.

Both breads did come out a bit cold though and I wish the sourdough was crispier. - Beet and endive salad (4/5): one of the best beet salads we've had. The sauce really brings the dish together with the herbed goat cheese flavor shining subtley through. - Bone marrow tots (4/5): this was the reason we wanted to try come ox + anchor and it did not disappoint. We couldn't really taste the bone marrow, which we had expected to shine, but the tots themselves were perfectly crispy and flavored. We both also loved the horseradish creme fraiche that helped cut through some of the heaviness of this dish. Note though that there is an odd amount of tots per dish so my gf and I had to fight over the last one. - 10oz american wagyu flat iron (5/5): we ordered this medium rare and it was perfectly cooked. The steak was juicy but not overly fatty since it was consistently marbled. It was seasoned well but we loved trying all the different complimentary sauces with it - especially the red wine bordelaise sauce. So glad we tried this! - Ox burger with aged cheddar (5/5): Super fresh tasting and not oily at all. Juicy and super aromatic to the bite. Brioche bun was slightly sweet and made the dish well balanced. We also loved the tomato relish that was included as it was super unique and delicious. It was a bit odd having the lettuce, tomato, pickle, and pickled onion on the side but we had it like a side salad and it worked out ok. The fries included were yummy and definitely get the lemon aioli to add to some bites! - Meyer Lemon Cheesecake (5/5): Not heavy or overly sweet at all which we really appreciated since we were stuffed at this point. It was great how the orange sherbet cut through the lemon flavor. - Dark chocolate, baking soda, honey comb - Appreciated this small dessert for our Valentine's Day dinner. The honeycomb was dehydrated and crunchy when biting but softens and gets sticky when chewing. - Towel w almond smell Overall (5/5): Late review for our Valentine's day reservation. Service was super friendly and helpful, especially at explaining the menu. Ambiance was pretty vibey with candlelight but it was a bit noisy. Overall food and vibes were amazing and it was one of the best meals we had that weekend!

At the end we could tell he was getting a tad busy but overall he was on top of it. We started with the bone marrow tator tots. They were DELICIOUS and we also had a couple oysters. They were tiny but packed a punch. We both enjoyed mocktails which we were glad were recommended to us. The tomato salad had mozzarella, cucumbers, watermelon and tomatoes. It was juicy and all went well together. For our main we shared the duck leg confit and American wagyu which were very good. The steak needed no sauce. It was juicy and flavorlf. The duck was crispy and paired nicely with the cherries. We ended our meal with the chocolate dome. We could not stop eating it.

We were walk in, the hostess offered us seating in two bar areas and also made room in the front room for us. We sat at a table in the front room. It had nice ambiance and nicely decorated with plants. Our server was super sweet and helpful. We ordered a Paloma which was great but I heard the pisco sours are good and homemade. Wish we tried one but next time! The service was so fast. When we got our cocktail the food arrived! We ordered the señor lomo which was their lomo saltado. It was sooo good. The sauce was so flavorful and the filet mignon was very tender. It came with a lot of veggies, fries and rice too. Also ordered the escabeche which was a sea bass with similar delicious sauce and veggies. It had mixed colored roasted potato's underneath. Fish and the dish was soft and equally flavorful and delicious. I would say the sauce was slightly lighter than señor lomo. They had a platter of desserts on display. Wish we could have all of them. They all looked pretty and delicious. We tried the papaya creme brûlée. Thought it mostly tasted just like creme brûlée. Highly recommend. It is one of the best Peruvian places I've been. Kinda pricy though, each dish was about $40.

From the hostesses to the bartenders to the chefs, everyone knows how to create a beautiful experience for the guests! In the past I've tried the afrodisíaco dish and was blown away but I wanted to excite myself with a different dish so I chose the Mixto dish and wow! The flavors just burst in your mouth with how bright they are, the dish is set under Ceviche but this is so much more elevated than your typical view of ceviche dishes! My boyfriend ordered the Dragon Lake cocktail and absolutely loved it! The ingredients are so well incorporated you don't find yourself tasting a drink with overpowered liquor that drowns out the other ingredients! He's a bartender so he appreciates a well made drink! On his end he loved his plate although I didn't catch the name of it, it was beautifully plated and it showed through with the taste of each bite as well! This is a MUST visit if you're ever back in the SLO area.

The restaurant is right in the heart of downtown Paso Robles, making it an easy stop if you're exploring the area. We had reservations through OpenTable and arrived a little early. They seated us within a few minutes, and although outdoor seating was available, it was around 97°, so we were happy to wait for an indoor table. The inside has a really cool Spanish hacienda vibe with rustic wood beams, warm lighting, and plenty of unique décor to take in. It's a fun space with lots of character and is connected in the back to the tiki bar next door, making it easy to continue the evening with a drink. The atmosphere was lively without being overly loud, and we really enjoyed the classic '80s music playing softly in the background. The oysters were fresh and very good. My wife ordered the ceviche and enjoyed it. I had the hanger steak salad--it was decent, but I'd probably skip the beets next time and order something different. Overall, the food was good, but it didn't quite rise to the level of "great." Service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Overall, Fish Gaucho is worth a visit for its downtown location, unique Spanish-inspired atmosphere, and solid food. While there are probably stronger culinary options in Paso Robles, we'd happily come back to enjoy the ambiance, check out the connected tiki bar, and sample a few different menu items.
