Great smash burger and fries! My friends and I had a coupon book from Cal Poly for a deal of $7 double smash burger, fries, and a drink. Honestly, a great priced lunch! It's located next to Ribline and had plenty of seating available for people to enjoy their food. The first time we went, they only gave us one patty which was odd since the coupon stated double smash but no worries, we still went back since it was a great deal. The second time around, the guy that helped us was extremely nice and had the best customer service I've experienced in a hot minute. The burger was good but it was a little salty this time around. We were greeted by Nolan, who is clearly passionate about both food and hospitality. He took the time to answer all of our questions, offered thoughtful recommendations, and made us feel genuinely welcome from the moment we sat down. The food was absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared--but what truly made this experience unforgettable was how special they made it for my son. My son, Orion, created his own dish and proudly presented it to Nolan. Not only did Nolan embrace it with enthusiasm, but the team actually turned it into a daily special and put it up on the menu board. That alone would have been incredible--but it gets even better. On our way home that Friday, we stopped back in to grab a carrot cake to go, and to our surprise, Orion's creation was displayed on the wall. I used to LOVE The Switch, not any more. They used to have a great fried chicken breast sandwich, but recently they changed to a strange spicy version that is so not good. For a while they wouldn't let you order the sandwiches a la carte, you had to order their fries. They also used to have a nice blueberry sauce you could order on the chicken sandwich. no more. Ordered the single smash burger with sweet potatoes fries. What a combination! First, the fries were cooked to perfection. Crunchy and not burned and with a light covering of salt that gave it the aweet-salty flavor. The burger was quite big. I took the top off and ate it like a stake. It had shopped up lettuce. Not sure why but it could make a mess if eaten as a burger. I worked it before hitting the burger. The burger, had caramelized onions that tasted delicious. There was a sauce, I think garlic buttery or similar. All of these flavors together with the sweet potatoes fries made it a delight one after another bite. Fries were a lot. When it costs so much to go out to eat these days, you want to be able to enjoy your outing, but wow is all I can say. The smash burgers tasted fatty but were okay. The filet and ribeye fries have been my favorite thing since I moved to the area. I order them once a week. However, within the last month it's clear whoever makes them is a different person or they've been told to make them differently. The meat is always overcooked and they are completely drenched in chipotle aioli. It may not look like it, but the sauce is even underneath the meat and literally making every fry soggy. I love the sauce, but when everything is soaked in it the food becomes inedible and I throw it away halfway through. They used to actually drizzle it over the food but I guess not anymore. I try to soak up as much sauce as I can with napkins first but that doesn't even help. I'm quite sad because this was my fav comfort meal and now I feel like it's not even worth ordering. Service was on the slower side (nonetheless the staff was respectful and kind) although both days were weekends so I assume that's why, and ordering ahead for pickup seems to be the move if you are in a rush. My friends have gotten the chick next door sandwich and filet mignon steak salad and raved about both. They admitted it and fixed it, so .. great. The toast was greasy (fried, not toasted - and badly; also the "sourdough" bread had all the sour of wonderbread). The scrambled eggs were dry. The potatoes were from frozen. The ketchup we asked for was supplied in a disposable container. I got an actual fork an knife with my meal. My partner received a plastic fork. This place is not a restaurant. It is a food truck masquerading as one. And that'd be OK if it were a good food truck - but it is not. We would not have stayed and eaten there except that we were pretty hungry and had our hearts set on trying something new. What a spot. I got the Hot Chicks Friend with a side salad. Sounds simple but truly delicious. The first things I noticed was the homemade ranch. Perfect balance of creaminess and flavor. The salad was fresh, crisp tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce and croutons. Most people don't come to places for a side salad but often the side salad tells the story of a restaurant; the quality of the simple things matters. But the sandwich was next level. Beautiful brioche bun. Simple fresh pickles and tomatoes and again crunchy lettuce. Some of the best fried chicken I've had. Not too doused with mayo. The chicken was moist but the breading was crispy. It wasn't over fried but had crunch. The only thing I'd have added was some hot sauce like franks but they had Siracha and Tabasco that I added. We were the only ones in there around 3pm, except for a table of 5 students watching some sports program on one phone. 25 or so minutes later, two plate come, with two disposable forces and napkins. I would think College students couldn't pay $17 plus tax for a chicken sandwich on a bare plate, but I may be wrong. My sandwich was a grade B or maybe a B+ since I was hungry. Wife's wonderbread toast sandwich, dripping w/mayo was impossible to pick up. I thought I was in the Twilight zone, nobody says a word, nobody offers real fork and knife, which I found myself. I guess ratings don't matter, because the picnic tables are sticky. I also believe it is from the cleaner they use.
