Pelikan is one of the few good restaurants in Stockholm that still serve traditional home-style Swedish food, so I come here more than once almost every time I visit my family. So, since my first visit to Sweden in 1985 I've actually eaten here alone or with my family around seven times. Among the favorite dishes here are the: Herring Plate (4 types), Toast Skagen (Tiny Sweet Shrimp with Mayonnaise on Toast), Thick Fried 'Salted' Bacon in Onion Sauce, The Duck, Every piece of Fish here is good. Other favorites are the Saddle of Reindeer with Lingonberries, Pork Knuckle with Potato Dumplings, and of course their Kottbullar (Swedish Meatballs) with Lingonberries. This is a great place.

Unfortunately, for most of the meal, the food itself didn't fully live up to the reputation. We ordered a pretty broad range of dishes. The herring was a bit of a miss for us and felt messy rather than memorable. The girls had the meatballs and a mushroom dumpling dish, but neither one really enjoyed their meal. Both dishes leaned very salty, to the point where it took away from the overall experience. I ordered the venison, which was fine, but not particularly special. It was one of those dishes that was technically okay, but didn't make me want to keep eating. I honestly didn't finish it. Mia ordered the cod, which looked good, but again, it didn't feel like anything spectacular or especially memorable. What completely changed the tone of the experience was the service. Toward the end of the meal, our server noticed that I hadn't eaten much. Without making a big deal out of it and without me asking for anything, he brought over a steak with potatoes and fries. That dish was excellent, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. More importantly, the gesture itself was incredibly thoughtful. That kind of hospitality is rare. He didn't have to do it. I wasn't complaining, and I wasn't expecting anything. I was prepared to leave the meal as-is. But the fact that he noticed and cared enough to make the experience better says a lot about the service and the professionalism of the staff. So while the original food we ordered was hit-or-miss, the service elevated the evening in a major way. The meal itself may not have been excellent across the board, but the hospitality was. For me, this ends up being a four-star experience: not because every dish landed, but because the staff turned what could have been a disappointing dinner into something memorable.

OMG - really good food at a great price for being in Scandinavian country. Stockholm is one of the…read moremost expensive town. They have a more expensive taste room (the slip) ~$250/person. We couldn't get reservation so we went to the restaurant oxen broar- same restaurant but the slip is in an enclosed room. If the food is like that of the broar then I would say it would be amazing. We had ox neck, char fish, ribs with cauliflower side dish, wax beans and potatoes. The side dishes were small but the main dishes were good portion and we ordered 2 portion of the ox neck- it tasted like prosciutto- very tender and mild tasting$10 or both potions. The char fish $25 had excellent flavor and the ribs $20 as well. It was very much a comfort food type of place. All side dishes were around $5/6. The place has a bar and very limited seating but off the pier so you can enjoy a nice view while dining. We took the bus to get there. From the stop, it was a short walk to the restaurant. We actually left the place under $100 including a glass of wine and a mix drink. Which is a steal for eating out.

And the service is great too. The problem is, that the food is only so-so. And the prices are pretty high too. Here are my ratings: Food: 3/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Value: 3/5 We were greeted by a very friendly staff, and opted for a seat on the patio because it was a beautiful day and we wanted to be by the water. But the patio was over-crowded and the table was placed in the middle of a walkway. Not a great start. But we were moved to a different table promptly. The food turned out to be rather disappointing. And there weren't too many options either, especially for fish. Here are the details. Bread basket - 5/5. Excellent bread with some nice home-churned butter. Mackerel Appetizer (SEK 175) - 2/5. This dish was a total flop. It was tiny morsels of fish, sitting at the bottom of a bowl covered by what appeared to be veggie foliage. I had to dig past the foliage to get to the tiny morsels of fish. And it was expensive for what you get. The only redeeming quality was the nice citrus dressing. Charcuterie (SEK 95) - 2/5. Yet another flop. The dish consisted only of salami (which was very mediocre) and some other cured meat (which was pretty tasty). But there was nothing else, no cheese not even a pickle. At least the price was reasonable. Fish Special (SEK 345) - 3/5. The fish wasn't a great fish. It was very bony. And it was served with a cream sauce that was way too salty. And if that wasn't salty enough, there were slices of chewy pancetta which was even saltier. We skipped on desert. Having said that, I think that this restaurant is still worth a visit if only for the great ambiance.
