TL;DR One year to create plans that were still incorrect when submitted to the city. Did not have me approve of the final plans, either. Terrible communication and lied about key stage gates. I originally hired Kopp Construction to create plans and build a garage and living room addition to my house. We started off by signing a contract for the plans and permitting only, and thank gosh I did because I can't imagine how terribly the build would have gone. Just the drafting portion took one year. The woman they have on staff to create the drafts is embarrassingly terrible at it. The dimensions and layout were never correct, and when she would fix one thing, another would get messed up. Kurt, the owner, took over our project after a few months when they fired the contractor that was working with us. He was difficult to communicate with and missed many basic aspects of the home that affected construction and engineering. He lied and told us we had all engineering and would be submitting the plans to the city before the engineer had even started on our job. He told us for 4 months straight that he would get the quote to construct the project "next week," spoiler alert, "next week" never came. After a year, they submitted plans to the city before I had a chance to look the final draft over and approve it. They STILL had drawing and measurement errors, and they didn't submit a basic site plan. I ended up firing Kurt and submitting corrected plans through a different contractor. read more

Talk about unprofessional and inexperienced! You get both here. We started working with Kopp in June for a garage conversion that was supposed to begin in July. By August 5th we were still in the midst of adding to the original cost for overlooked requirements by the city of Portland. My husband and I have been involved in a number of additions/remodels for the past 15 years, both residential and commercial, and have never, ever had a contractor say they forgot to include normal things like the interior doors (duh), the need to insulate a cement floor for residential use, and account for setback requirements. All incrementally adding to the original approved bid. That last one caused our project to go wayyy over budget and wasn't even discovered until after we signed the contract!! Hello? And then to top it off, when we told them we were very uncomfortable with their seeming inexperience and nickle and diming us into 160% of budget, they sent us a BILL for their trips to the City of Portland Permit office! lol! Seriously? You tried to pull the permit twice and failed because you didn't know your stuff beforehand, and you want US to compensate you for that? Chuck it up to experience guys. You've cost us 3 months of rent, and another month of planning to find another Contractor who knows his stuff. I am sending you a bill for $3000 in lost income. Giving 2 starts since they did manage to demo the small kitchen wall, although they left us with an uneven floor, and upped even that estimate by $250! read more

Kopp will subconsult work out to another company for work on the East side of the river. At least that's what they did for my home. Their quality of work was fantastic. The problem was that I suspect they price gouged me. You are likely to find rot or other issues when you tear down siding. I had a lot of that on my home and they would keep adding change order after change order every time they found a flaw. The change orders were what seemed extremely over priced as they knew I would have to sole source the work for them as the project was already partially done by them and I needed a warranty. I had gotten estimates for some of the work earlier as I already could see some of the rot issues. Kopps prices were higher every time. In the end, I paid triple the original cost. I think with the rot, it should only have been double. I don't recommend them for siding. They will definitely cost more money than other companies if you have to have any change orders at all. If you don't care about money but only quality, their quality was definitely good east of the river. read more

Absolute trash. The owner is a rude guy, leery and vaguely creepy, the woman at the front is just rude. The work is very slow and a hassle, the workers were very lazy people. Will not go through them again. read more

August 30, 2016 This past week I had the pleasure of meeting Farron Fischer of Kopp Construction Company in Forest Grove, Oregon. I was in a bit of a quandary, searching for a contractor to help me work on a dry rot project, having very little luck. I was just about to give up when I found Kopp Construction Company and decided to give them a call. The receptionist was very friendly, and when I asked if this was a repair they could do, her reply was sure we do that type of repair. I had been trying for weeks to find someone, she mentioned she would have someone contact me to discuss. I was so pleased when I received a call before the day was over! This is when I spoke to Farron. I was expecting a four to six week wait as all contractors are very busy right now, but to my surprise, he said he could me meet me the next day! He showed up at the repair location. He presented himself very professionally, met me with a handshake, and introduced himself, hard to find these days! We discussed the issues I was having, and he mentioned he had a person coming right away to look at the project. Within five minutes, Joel showed up and ventured into the crawl space to see what was what. We discussed the problems and Farron offered to write up an estimate and get it to me the following day! I was so surprised that they would be able to help me so fast. The next day there, it was an estimate for repairs, which I felt was extremely reasonable, so I contacted him right away. Once again another surprise, if I chose to accept the estimate they would start the project that afternoon! At this point, I was beside myself with the way they treated me, a perfect stranger, but nonetheless, to them a valuable customer, I am still jumping with joy! It only took a couple of days to finish the project and what an excellent job they did! Kopp Construction is a very professional company, polite, courteous, and pleasure to do business with!
