Koons has joined Ford in removing loaner cars and adding RENTAL CARS at each dealer. This places ALL THE RISK ON THE BUYER! What incentive is there for Ford to complete the service on your car when your tab for renting a car keeps going up? ASK THE SALESPERSON, NO LOANERS, THEN DO NOT BUY! I learned this when I called my salesperson Pete Dixon for help in making sure a loaner would be available b/c my new truck was making a 'grinding noise" & I wanted them to look at it before I exceeded my 60K warranty. Waited for about an hour and the technician gave me some BS story about them not being able to scan for my check engine light and can't work on my car. I am a patient person but the Service Department at Koons Ford is really testing me, I took my company car in because of a manufacturer's recall and asked for them to check my brakes as well. I took the car on Thursday, June 6th and a week later I have not gotten the car back. I received a call on that Friday morning from a Koons Ford Rep giving me a list of issues regarding the brakes and quoting me a price for service. I explained that the car was a Fleet vehicle the Rep gave me the name of someone else who would be handling the car. On Monday, June 10th I called the Service Department and spoke with a male Rep and explained the matter he assured me they would get right on it. Two days went by and I had not heard from anyone so on Thursday, June 13th I called again and spoke with a female Rep that morning (8:30 AM) and she took my name and number again stating the person who I will not mention would be calling back some time that day, at 3:30 PM I decided to go to the Service Center since he had not called. When I arrived nobody acknowledged me at first and eventually, I was told who I needed to speak with. I explained to that particular Rep the issue and here again I was asked my name and phone number he said he would call me within an hour. I had planned on getting a new personal vehicle from Koons Ford but I will be taking my business elsewhere. This experience has left me with a negative effect on any dealings with Koons Ford on Security Square. read more

I was so happy to finally buy my new 2020 f250 power stroke, less than 24 hours after making the purchase I found multiple defects with the truck ( hole in the roof and water coming in the cab every time it rains plus paint missing in multiple places!) Really bad experience. 0 customer service. Was looking into a 2018 Raptor that has been sitting collecting dust at that dealership for almost a year without any buyers. Yea, only a crazy guy like me would want to buy a 70K truck in these times lol. You think the dealer would show some interest and try and win my business right? lol. Wrong!! Tried contacting the dealership a couple of weeks ago, after a few tries finally this guy calls me back. I tell him i am interested and ask him to send me his email. No response haha. I finally decide to call back to see if i can get another salesman. Go to see i get this guy who claims he only deals in 'used cars' at the dealership and is extremely rude. I liked the truck so like a fool i decide to call back a third time. Get the same guy who i spoke to the first time. All in all, finally fix an appointment and go in to check out the truck. They threw out some numbers, give me a value on my trade in. I tell them i need a couple of days to think and do some research myself. You would think that out of courtesy a salesman/ sales manager would call you the next day or so to check in right? This is customer service 101. But nothing! To my amazement i did some research and found out via KBB these guys offered me almost 8000 less on my trade in??!? I was a little surprised as Koons so very proudly states on their website they will offer 125% of the KBB value!! Mind you in had a mint super high end SUV still under factory warranty so i was a little more upset. Me being stupid and still wanting that truck i decide to call the dealer a THIRD time to see if we can work something out. Call up and tell the salesman i want to come in to discuss. He tells me- 'Listen i want to save you a trip, we are fixed on our price blah blah blah' , basically saying dont bother coming in haha.I tell him about the KBB value discrepancy. He says the number might be low and he can talk to the manager and see if he can increase it a 'little'. He says i will talk to the manager and 'call you back'. i wait all evening and nothing!! I was very skeptical about the "WOW" price advertisements, but when the online sales rep sent me the price I really did say, WOW! When I went the next day to test drive and purchase the vehicle, I was met at the door and was quickly helped. My sales rep Matt was accommodating and very knowledgeable about the features of the car and we had a pleasant conversation while on the test drive. The Finance guy was excellent. He was able to explain the value of some of the add-on services and there was no high pressure maneuvering on his part. I even learned why dealerships still use 25 year old dot-matrix printers. This place is the worst! I purchase a 2018 Ford Explorer from them in July 2020. Ended up needing transmission work in 2021. Turn around to February 2022 and I need a complete transmission replacement. They refused to cover it even though they just worked on the transmissio. I had to call ford themselves and still ended up having to pay 1900 out of pocket. Ford agreed to pay for a rental car for me as well koons just needed to submit payment codes and extend the contract depending on when the car Would be finished they neglected to do that and hertz ended up issuing a repossession. now that my car is complete they are trying to make me also pay the 1000 dollar rental fees due to having the repo and tow fees. I refuse to pay that due to their negligence! they still have my vehicle. I will never have service done here or purchase another vehicle from here! absolutely the worst dealership ever! Stay away! I purchased my car from Koons Ford in fall 2013 and after that I have had nothing but problems with the service department! A simple oil change turns into a 10 hour ordeal. They are less than truthful when explaining what a service entails, never answer the phone, and take hours to return messages. Repeat offenders. Consistent poor performance is the only constant. The service department is frustratingly unprofessional, non-responsive, and seemingly not held to any sort of standard. In person visits consist of being told they don't have time to talk to you, "They're busy", and be patient. If the self proclaimed "largest Ford Dealership" (at one point) is finding themselves short staffed, hire more professionals. Your customers are feeling the pain. Phone calls go one of a few directions: 1. No answer 2. Answered, redirected, then no answer 3. Voicemail 4. Answer but the person you need isn't available and they'll call me back. I spent from 8am until 530pm attempting to reach my service agent. I was persistent, calling 6 times as the only outcome I could achieve was one of the four cited above. Finally, I was told my agent left for the day. End result? Still don't know the status of my vehicle or if it was even seen at all. It needed a battery... You get an overwhelming feeling none of the employees want to be there or do their jobs. Again, your customers feel the pain. I will no longer be bringing my vehicle to Koons. Ever. I will be driving however much further I need in order to receive proper customer service. read more

I had a very pleasant buying experience at Koons Ford. My salesman was Tim Robertson and he was rock solid! He really worked to give me the best deal possible and utilized all the incentives that ford has to offer to a first time ford buyer. Coming from a really poor experience with VW, I traded in my 2015 VW GTI for a 2016 Focus ST because of the terrible lease rate on my GTI. Now I own my own car and have a 1.9% finance rate and even with the negative equity rolled into the cost of my Focus, it is still cheaper than leasing my old VW. I just wish they would have met me at a better trade in price on a virtually brand new car with 12,800 miles on it and no aftermarket changes, scratches/dings/damage...they would only give me the "good" value on KBB, which is understandable given the current state of Volkswagen and their brand. If anyone needs a recommendation for a salesman I would recommend Tim Robertson to anyone, he gets the job done and is really easy to have a conversation with given the fact that the car buying process takes a few hours...so keep that in mind! Not to mention he took the time to text me the next day and send me a picture of my expensive sunglasses letting me know that they had found them in my trade in. I came by that same night and picked them up, good looking out Tim i still appreciate that! The only reason i am not giving Koons Ford Baltimore a full 5 stars is because about 18 days after the purchase of my new Ford I got an incriminating phone call from VW Credit telling me my payment was 18 days past due. Now i know payoffs don't happen overnight, so i stuck up for Koons and said that i had traded the car in and that it was supposed to be paid off, VW probably just had not processed that payoff check yet. Turns out after calling the dealership, they lost an important payoff document and they never mailed in the check. So i'm running the risk of getting a 30 day late on my credit report because of it- so i'm hoping that doesn't come true. The organization was the only real complaint I had with the dealership because it didn't seem like they documented things very well if an important paper like this easily got misplaced. read more

Beware! I bought a ford transit 150 last year from Danesh the salesperson. A warranty was given up to 35,000 miles but when I needed to use that it actually turned into a big waste of time for me. They will make you leave the care for 3-5 days for simple problems and won't even give you a loaner car. This is my work van and every day that I lose business is critical so I decided to rent a van so I won't miss any clients. After 4 days they call and ask me to come "it's all ready" yea right.. For 25 years Koons has been my go-to dealership for ford cars and trucks and lincoln suv's. I bought an explorer from my brother in law and took it to them for md state inspection. wow. told me i needed wipers - i just put them on 2 days before getting inspected. then they said oops, meant just rear wiper. that is not required for a state insp!!! they wanted me to pay a total of $1,100 for stuff i didn't need. I went to svc director miller and he got mad at me! then gen'l mgr Dennis Koulatsos was very professional (whew) but really offered no remedy. i fixed all for $18 and went to another inspection station and got sticker there right away. imagine if i weren't a regular customer! My experience with Koons Ford is limited to the Service Department; however, it was bad enough that I will never use them for anything. A while back, I was driving my 4 year old Mercury Mariner to work and heard a bang under the hood, followed by the strong smell of gas. I got the car to my office and popped the hood to see what happened. I noticed that one of my spark plugs was resting on the engine block (it was the #2 spark plug--this will be important later). I got the car towed over to Koons Ford, since it was the closest Ford/Mercury dealer and checked in with "Mike" (I can't remember his real name), one of the assistant service managers in the service department. I explained what happened and mentioned that I had a problem with that same spark plug a couple of years earlier (it had come loose). We leave the car Mike. When I get home, I do all sorts of research on what happened. Google "spark plug explode ford" and you'll see it's a fairly common problem with Ford/Mercury truck engines. Guess they make the engines out of Aluminum and don't put enough threads to hold the spark plug in. So if the spark plug is too loose or too tight, it fails, causing the spark plug ejection. I'm thinking this kind of sucks, but at least the car is still under warranty. Mike calls the next day and says "I've got some bad news. Looks like the spark plug blew out of the engine block and stripped the threads. You've got 2 options. Option #1, we get an adapter and screw it into the cylinder to fix the problem will cost you about $800. Option #2 is a permanent fix where we replace the entire cylinder, and it will cost you $3000." I ask about the warranty (which the car is still under). Mike's response is that "This isn't warranty work. This is what happens when you take your car to those quick oil change places." I'm kind of irked, but I explain to Mike that this was my company car from a job I had just left and that all the maintenance on it was done at the local Mercury dealer. Mike then says "Well, I'm not calling you a liar, but it looks like whoever worked on this wasn't a dealer." Now, I'm starting to get pissed off. Fortunately for me, I have all the dealer service records for the car, including when I took the car in to get that #2 spark plug fixed. I mention these records to Mike and say the repair should be covered under warranty and he basically says that Ford will listen to his recommendation and that in his opinion, this is not warranty work. He also makes a comment that "even if" I went to a Mercury dealer for all my maintenance, it doesn't mean I've covered by the warranty. I'm at a loss for words because I can't comprehend his logic. I hang up and talk it over with my wife. We need the car fixed, so we're going to go with the $800 fix and figure we'll somehow appeal with Ford Corporate. My wife calls back later to inform Mike that we'll go with Option 1. He says something like he's glad we're seeing it "his way." My wife then says "Oh, we're not done with this yet." Mike then gets worked up and says "I'm not going to do any work on this car so you can just come and get it!" Needless to say, my wife is flabbergasted by this attitude and calls me at work. I say screw this, call Apple Ford and see if they'll come get the car and do the work. She makes the call and Apple Ford gets the car in a couple of hours. We go to Apple Ford, explain the mechanical situation and the service tech, says "Yeah, that happens, a lot. I gotta get the work cleared through Corporate, but it shouldn't be a problem. We'll have the car back to you in a couple of days." That night, we got the call from the service tech saying the repair is covered by the warranty and they're paying for the Option #2 fix, for $3000. True to his word, we get the car back in a couple of days, good as new. So while I'm slamming Koons Ford, I should be thanking them. If Mike hadn't been such a colossal a$$, I might have paid $800 to have this buffoon put a half a$$ fix on my car when Ford would have paid $3000 to fix it right. (in response to Dave T.) I looked through the paperwork we got from Koons Ford and Chuck Rest was the service person we dealt with. While I appreciate you responding, I really don't care if you look into this. Your team made quite the first impression on me (and based on the number of negative reviews on this site - quite an impression on a number of other people). I would not recommend this place to anyone, especially for the body shop. My husband truck has been in their body shop for 2 months and it's still not ready. They keep giving him the run around, as if they screwed up and don't know what to do. So they keep telling him it will be ready on a certain date and when he calls up there they keep transferring him to different people and then say they will give him a call back And Don't Return His Call. I think I am going to report them to the BBB because they are playing games but I am not the one to play with so I Will Get Answers one way or the other. My husband and I purchased a brand new Fiesta from this dealership in July and we're just getting around to writing a review (sorry, all, heh). I did quite a bit of comparison shopping beforehand and had actually not planned to purchase on the day that I did, but we went to visit Koons on a Friday night to see what the Fords looked like, and I fell in love with this Fiesta from the get-go. It had everything we required and the price was reasonable, so we went back the next day for a test drive. Our salesman, Keith Schopman, was very personable and patient (though a bit too apologetic at times - really, I don't mind that we had to look at the car on our own, I preferred that, so as far as I'm concerned, he did his job just right for my tastes) and helped us considerably with hammering out details. Our finance manager, Sam, was also very nice and took time to answer any and all questions we had. I am very pleased with the Fiesta and have had no trouble with it whatever. Maybe my experience is an anomaly, but I had no issue with how I was treated here and would happily return for my next car (which will hopefully not be for many years). Recommended. read more

I had to stop by here for emergency service. I was driving from Boston to Miami and my window broke halfway down (which is quite unpleasant driving 70 mph on the highway). I stopped by with zero appointment, and was seen on the spot. They put my window up and did not charge me anything at all - just as a courtesy. I am still under factory warranty (from another dealership in New England), and they were going to charge the warranty if they had the part to fix it - but they just didn't have the part - and I didn't give them any notice stopping by on a Saturday an hour before they close. In the process of shopping for a new Ford hatchback, I went to several dealers in the Baltimore region. My experience at Koon's was easily the best. Larry Bouldin was kind, patient, and well-informed and an overall delight to work with. Mark Rodgers was direct and firm but in a professional, friendly way. At no point in the negotiations did I feel pressured or strong-armed. I ended up driving out in my awesome new Fiesta feeling great about the deal and the service I received. Sales-wise, we had a very pleasant experience buying a car here. Our salesman Lan Phan was incredibly nice to work with, and I'd recommend him to anyone. However, the finance office here is what makes me rate the dealership as a whole as a three--they lack attention to detail, an inability to follow up with you when requested, and are generally rude when you decline any warranties. When I reached a human being I was told that they did not do body work and they contract the work out, but the person refused to give me the number to contact them directly. I personally have only had great expriences at Koons Ford of Baltimore! We bought my 2010 Ford Flex there in February 2013. The interest rate is somewhat high but they got it down from what it was and got more for my trade in to make my payments smaller, they really worked for us to get the payments to where we were comfortable. I am in the military and they were quick with registering my car in my home state and getting my license plates to me as fast as possible. When we purchased the vehicle we knew one DVD player didn't work and we got a warranty that covered all electronics so we would bring it in later to have it fixed rather than have it fixed before we left with it. This past week I took my Flex to Koons to get the DVD player fixed, check engine light reset and my brake lights looked at. They were AMAZING! I mostly emailed with Ken Dillons who is very helpful and dealt in person with Steve in service who is as nice as can be. When I dropped my Flex off I was informed that with my warranty there is a $100 deductible (that would have been nice to know beforehand but still ok) while working on my car they noticed my driverside DVD player (in headrest) never powered off so they replaced it and took the DVD player out of my passenger headrest and sent it off to a third party company to get fixed. They replaced my brake switch and ran diagnostics on my check engine light before resetting it. The used car lot paid my $100 deductible, which was a great surpise. Steve was awesome when it came to calling me to let me know the progress on my car. I picked my car up and now just waiting on my passenger DVD player, when it comes in I'll take it back to have it installed. read more

OMG. We could not have had a better experience. This was our 2nd trip to Koons Ford of Baltimore after performing 10s of hours of research online into various other makes (e.g. Acura TLX, Suburu Legacy, Toyota Camry, Chevy Impala, Honda Accord) and stopping at various other dealerships (e.g. Bob Davidson Ford, Frankel Acura, etc.) in the North Baltimore region. We were never put under any pressure / in an uncomfortable position, etc. Instead, we felt encouraged to help them find the perfect car for us for the best deal (and - again - I looked around the entire North Baltimore region). Our salesman (Lan Phan) was very helpful (prompt service and valuable input) and made the experience a fun one (he's a very funny guy!) and our sales manager (Mark Rodgers) worked with us to lock in the best deal (e.g. he explained everything well, he considered everything that we had to say, and he remained patient, professional the entire time). My experience is quite similar to that of Brian M. (notice the date). Just as some companies can get better, others can get worse. I too went to Koons for a few years and have had no reason to complain. But recently, after taking my car in to replace a tire, I was told I needed over a thousand dollars in axle work, including an alignment, After spending the money, I left the dealership only to find my steering wheel badly off-center. I went back not once, but twice to try and fix the problem. The Saturday service manager first tried to tell me that the Baltimore Beltway was banked (i.e. - it was my fault - I don't know how to drive) and when I finally spoke to the mechanic, he actually said "well, I guess I'm not as picky as you". When the steering wheel is pointed straight, the car should go straight. Mine still pulls badly to the right. UPDATED: After an email exchange with a Nick P., I made a third and final attempt to set things right. Koons struck out again. This time the service manager reminded me that he was in the business for 25 years. That's nice. No attempt was made to test drive the car, and no followup ever took place - not once in the four times I was there. The next day, I took the car to Norris Ford in Baltimore, They fixed the problem in just under two hours, and in a very courteous and professional manner. The solution included adjusting the splines - something the mechanics at Koons never even bothered with. The car is now a joy to drive. Take a guess where my next Mustang is coming from. My spouse and I went to Apple Ford where we had a horrible experience. We were recommended to go to Koons Ford as they were supposed to be "excellent". I had spoken to our sales guy, Matthew Bradby, who was professional and courteous. A couple of days later we arrived at the dealership and found the car we wanted, although they did not have a Ford Explorer with Navigation. We ended up purchasing a 2014 Ford Explorer Limited and paid to have the factory stock Navigation system put in, which we were told was going to be a easy experience that we could come in and wait for as it would only take "an hour or two" to complete which did not sound right. I was assured by the sales rep that I would receive a phone call the next day in the morning to provide me with a Service Appointment to have this work done. After trying to contact Mr. Bradby several times, I had no return phone call to schedule the appointment. I attempted to call the service department who immediately advised me that they could not help me and that the sales rep would need to actually set up the appointment. I spoke with the supervisor who immediately assisted me in setting up the appointment and explained that this was not a "one or two hour job" and he apologized if Mr. Bradby misspoke. We were offered a loaner car during the time they would have the car which I felt was very nice of them. At that point I felt that we had been taken care of and was very happy with our purchase. The following day, keep in mind this is now 4 days after buying the car, we were driving down the highway and we heard a loud sound come from the driver's side almost like we had hit something. We figured it was a rock or something and drove to our destination. After getting out of the car, noticed that the front side windshield molding had flew off the vehicle. After close inspection it was clear that "someone" had attempted to use some type of adhesive to hold it down and the bracket that was underneath had a crack in the plastic frame which is why it flew off after we got on the highway driving at a higher rate of speed. So, I immediately called the dealer, which I found out was closed being Sunday. I called our sales guy Mr. Bradby to advise him of the issue. I sent him pictures from my phone and was appalled that this had happened to a practically brand new car with very low miles. I was more upset that it was clear they had tried to use adhesive to hold it down instead of replacing the molding. After speaking to Mr. Bradby I was assured that it would be taken care of and to advise the manager when dropping off the car the next day. After I arrived at the dealership and speaking to the manager I was then informed that they would NOT cover the molding as the car was sold used and I had owned it for 4 days. He attempted to compare it to a rock hitting our windshield and asking them to fix it. I advised him that I was extremely disappointed and in my mind this should be something they should take care of. He advised that they only do a "visual inspection" of the vehicles they purchase and would not have known of the issue. They still have my car as of right now and I'm hoping that they will see the light and fix it. If not I'm sure they will give me a bill for the molding. Overall our sales experience was good just not happy with the end result at this point. Great car, just not at all satisfied that something like this happens and they refuse to pay for it to be fixed. I will seriously reconsider buying another car from them. I think we will look around for another dealer. I will update my post after we get the car back. I would like to recommend the dealer but after all of this we are not very happy at all with our overall experience. read more

Drove 5 1/2 hours from North Jersey to Maryland for a car. Went into purchase a 2012 Boss 302 Mustang. Got exactly what I wanted for trade in price of my former vehicle (2008 Honda S2000 CR). Got a great price on the Boss, staff was fast, efficient, and helpful. The staff facilitated the sale and helped everything move through quickly. (I was anxious to get into the car.) Matt Stoudt was very straight forward and helpful and assisted in any way he could and Miss Carol in finance was also very helpful and even was able to recommend a way that I could get money back from a prior warranty from the vehicle I traded in. I am in the high line Auto industry for almost a quarter century, working for BMW. I live on Long Island and could not get the 2015 F150 King Ranch locally as out was in short supply and very new. After searching I located one here in Baltimore at Koons Ford. Tom Snyder is the Sales manager and was very professional extending me a professional courtesy where he did not really have to as this particular truck was in extreme demand. Being I the business, I am rather particular and fastidious. Tom and his team including his Sales rep Keith, went above and beyond to accommodate my every need to make me comfortable having to make a 500 mile round trip event to pick up my truck. I had been to this Ford a few time before and had never been blown away by the Customer service. In the past I had been talked down to and treated poorly by employees, making it seem like an inconvenience for having come in. My last experience has shown me that there is no regard for the customer. I had intended to come get an oil change before the weekend since I would be short on time the coming Saturday. Not having an appointment I decide to call ahead to even see if I could come in. The employee on the line told me he expected it not to get busy and there should be no problem fitting me in. After driving 40mins to the dealership, I am turned away. Not only was I well within service hours but now the garage is full and only one technician is working. I get told to come in on Saturday morning. Now even with an appointment I am told that it will take 90mins to be ready...for an oil change and a huge waste of time. I had bought my car originally at the Koons of Annapolis. After having great experiences there, I expected it be the same at this branch. I was very incorrect in assuming this. I come here because of proximity since moving from Annapolis and my maintenance plan which covers routine work (going anywhere else will void my warranty). I recommend that if you're able make the trip down to Annapolis, you will receive prompt and better service there. read more

Shame on Dennis Koulatsos GENERAL MANAGER for not returning our countless phone calls to resolve our complaint regarding damage done to the right bumper paint during new car transport. Also to the staff for covering up for him each time we called! Dennis - you should return our calls and do the right thing! BUYER BEWARE! .......Dennis resolved this situation to our satisfaction. My wonderful experience at Koons Ford began with my first email request about the 2012 Ford Fiesta. I received a quick response from the General Manger Dennis Koulatsos on the availability and price of the car I wanted. He was pleasant, honest, and extremely professional throughout the entire process. The professionalism and friendly atmosphere did not stop there! I spoke to and emailed other members of the staff who were also very pleasant and professional I can only remember a few I dealt with by email (Steve Ageloff - lead settlement officer & Tom Snyder - New Car Sales Manger). I was in and out of the dealership within 45 minutes!!! There was also one gentleman on his break in the waiting room who was talking to my friend as she waited for me who I found very enthusiastic so needless to say I will definitely be coming back to Koons Ford Baltimore for all of my future purchases.
