The Kool Keg is a long time business in Arlington. But now they have a great bar to sit and hangout at. We came on a Saturday afternoon not real busy at first then the crowd pick up. The Place is very cool nice set up. Great bar and plenty of tables to sit. Plus an outside area to sit. There are TV's everywhere to watch a game. The bar tender was very helpful easy to talk with. He has a wealth of knowledge of beer. You will have plenty of beer on tap to pick from. And there is a menu board that will help you pick a beer. Awesome concept and almost flawless implementation. Lots of beers on tap, they rotate, they give you the keg levels. You can buy $2 samples of most things, except the fancy stuff. I wish it was a little bigger, it can be a problem if you come in a group during peak times, you cross your fingers to find a seat for everyone. There's usually 2 people bartending, my only complaint is you can wait a while to order especially if they are closing a tab out. No one coming around the tables, which has its ups and downs. They probably should have a separate listing now that they added the beer bar and growler refill. But, what the hell, here we go. Over the years I've used them for kegs occasionally. They were especially helpful because this is probably the closest place to get Co2 takes filled. Also, when I had a problem with the seal of the fittings when I went to reconnect a tank, they provided me with the silicon washer that fixed the problem at no charge. Pretty happy on this side of the business. Couple weeks ago they finished adding and remodeling the front part of the building, turning it into a high end growler refill station and craft beer bar. They have thirty beers on tap, most of them stuff I've never heard of, but there's always a couple things I see I want to try. The growler fills are some kind of special pressure fill system. Never really got the full details. They do have different types of growler containers for sale. Watched them fill some up, pretty interesting. It certainly is different and supposed to keep the beer good for up to 90 days unopened. However, if I'm getting a growler filled, I ain't gonna be waiting three months to drink it, so... Surprisingly, there are usually three to five sour beers on tap. Mostly a good deal of IPA's and Stouts, with thankfully, a few wheat types thrown in. There is a digital blackboard on the wall with the current offerings, and if you follow their twitter feed you'll notice that beers change daily. So, it appears if you really like something, sadly, it might not be on tap next visit. Lots of different bottle beers for sale also. All in all, a pretty big selection. Add to that, the inside is fantastic. Lots of wood and marble/granite. The chairs at the bar are a little heavy and kludgy, but viable. Place is really nice inside. However, it ain't big by no means. Bar seats, 4 tables or so, a small window area, that's about it. Service has been quick and helpful the few times I've been in. Prices seem to be pretty good. Some beers have up to four serving sizes available I noticed. Couple tasting sizes to regular serves. I've paid anywhere from about $3 to $7 for what I've been drinking. Anyway, I wasn't sure if the place and layout would work, but it does. Other than having to listen to a couple of beer snobs proclaim their opinions (which mean nothing to me, you goobs) it's been positive. I'll continue to go back. But I'm pretty certain this place will start getting busy pretty quick. read more

The place is nice, love the bar seats, but it's pretty expensive and for having a bunch of taps they don't have a huge variety. They have a good variety of lighter beers, but when we come in almost all of the porters and stouts are imperials or barrel aged (we like to try multiple things so it's hard to when everything is 10%). Tonight we came in for St. Paddy's because it said online that they had specials, so we called ahead a couple of times to find out details and got no answer. We decided to go in anyways and find out and they had cancelled the special apparently so we came for no reason due to false advertisement.. there were also people who came in obviously quite drunk and got served, and then on our way out we saw that they had thrown up on the ground - sometimes there's nothing you can do (especially on st. Patrick's day) but still But they do growler fills which is awesome! read more

This is a day late, but I made tow trips here yesterday. Met Zach who the GM very knowledgable and generous guy. Got to sample some great beers and filled my first growler with Lakewood Sin Mint. Don't give this place your business. I rented a double barrel marg machine for my bday Friday Dec 8 thru droppped it off and put it together and said it'll freeze within two hours. 3 hrs pass it's still watery. We called 3 times and left msgs. We never heard back. On Sunday they came to pick it up and we complained and the man said call Tuesday. We gave them a call Tuesday and expressed our complaint and told them we have pictures with time stamps to show it never froze or worked. All the man said was they could offer us $20 voucher to next rental. We explained to them that it was not good enough because if we wanted a mixed drink I could have just mixed it myself and this wasn't sufficient compensation. The man said that he'll tell his manager and that he'd call back the following day. It's December 21st and I'm still waiting for that call with some compensation. To sum up don't rent from here their machines suck and their customer service sucks. read more

Alright, so things have changed quite a bit. This is no longer a keg depot with a few sixers in the fridge. They've come a long way from being a loading dock behind Family Dollar. The front end was built out and completely redone into a patio. The old check out area is a bar. The area to the left has been incorporated in and is now a small seating area. Another growler fill bar. The inside is beautiful. It's well done, woody, comfy, and does a good job of being dim instead of dark. There's a couple TVs and some music. Just a really good looking place as you can tell from the amount of pictures that cropped up immediately. The bartenders are knowledgeable about what they have. They rotation is fairly quick with a great selection. Flights of four come in these cool lock boxes with sea monsters on them. The patio has windows that open to a small seating area on each side. We've put a bigger crowd that we thought in there by spanning the west wall on the outside and the inside through the windows. There's a bottle selection of the back wall that's got some relatively hard to find things over there. The growler fill system is actually an attractive setup and is rumored to last quite a while in the growler (assuming you don't open it). The keg operation is still there on the southern facing of the building and still has everything I liked about it before. It's just that now I can sit down and have a beer when I fill my CO2 tank. Which is good. And maybe bad. read more

Kool Keg is my favorite place to come in Arlington to have a delicious cold beer. Zach, the manager, has incredible beer knowledge and they always have a wide variety of beers on tap. They also use Digital Pour which is really helpful to see what they have before you go. Keep in mind they are just a taproom, but there is J.Gilligans, Twisted Root, Fuzzy's, and a few other restaurants nearby if you want something to eat while you drink. Not only do they have great beers on tap, but they host a plethora of beer events and get some of the most top rated and sought after beers in the country. The atmosphere is relaxed, but the only issue is that it can be hard to find a spot so you better get there early. My only complaint is the seating. They have only two large tables that can fit more than a group of four people so if your coming in a group you might have to be creative. They do have a bar top to sit at as well as high tops for 2-4. They have a small patio area you can sit on as well so that can work for groups if people are okay with standing. Overall, this is one of my favorite taprooms around the DFW. read more

Service is amazing here. Everyone is great and always courteous to costumers. They also have growlers which is a big plus for me. I would recommend this place on Friday or Saturday. The noise level for me is great. They do close at 12 though. So if you want a light night or short night this would be a great place to go. They offer 5oz, but no samples. read more

Went to a party last weekend where my friend rented a margarita machine from here. They lied to us about the number of mixes they left (said there were 2... Nope, just one). The machine never froze the margaritas. Eventually the tumbler inside quit spinning. After much sighing and push back they sent out another machine (now it's 8pm). This machine worked (at 1000 we have margaritas). When we called to ask about a discount or refund for the mistakes/broken machine the employee blamed us (you had a fan pointed at the machine), and refused to have the owner/manager call back (even though he promised the first time we called that this person would call). Kool Keg gets a lot of things right: - The beer selection is super interesting. IPAs, sure, but also seasonals and sour beers and mead and everything else. There's a bright display board with descriptions, real-time keg levels and other information that you end up staring at every few minutes. If you aren't ready to commit to any one beer, order a small size or make your own flight. Easy, fun. Prices are good, especially given how rare craft beer is in Arlington. - Great environment. Clean and not loud. Your choice of bar seating, stand-up tables, sit-down tables or outside seating. Good for groups, great for conversations. - The location is very central... if friends want to meet up somewhere else in Arlington that does not have interesting beer, it is trivially easy to stop by Kool Keg before or after. Knocks: - Nothing to snack on. You are not supposed to eat the hops. You'll just have to deal with walking fifty paces to any number of downtown establishments serving food. - Parking can be tight. - The beer selection can change really fast, which is great... until that Best Beer Ever is gone or your stubborn friend refuses to try anything new. Do not get your CO2 bottles filled here! They do not weigh the amount of gas put into your bottle. They just connect your tank to theirs and stop filling when pressures equalize. I paid the 24.99+tax thinking I was getting 5lbs. Not even close. Tank weighs 7.87 lbs empty. It weighed 9.2 lbs after they "filled" it. I took it back and they "refilled" it. It is still light - 9.4 lbs. They won't cheat me again. Beware! read more

I don't know how I've never heard of this place before! This is craft beer heaven! The ambiance is welcoming and the bartender made the experience there so welcoming! He showed us the magnificent craft beer menu board and explained the digital pour app. My husband and I sampled about four different beers and bought a growler of our favorite. The growler experience deserves 5 stars on its own! The process includes adding CO2 so it all looks very high tech and just freaking cool. They don't serve food there but you can bring your own food or have stuff delivered. I think the Hubs and I have found our new favorite spot! read more

We had a really bad experience with a margarita machine rental from this place. What should have been one simple delivery turned into 3 visits out to our house to finally give us the correct number of mixes we ordered, and to give us an actual working machine that could freeze the margaritas. We didn't actually have frozen margaritas until the last hour of our party, when guests were starting to leave. When I called the Monday after our party, all of the blame was pretty much put on me, including the fact that they had to pay their drivers double to bring us a machine that actually worked. I called multiple times and was told each time that the owner would call me to discuss the situation, and he never called. What a disappointment. read more
