Pizzeria L'Italiano - House white, top quality for the price.

Our final night in Evora before heading down to the Algarve and we wanted comfort food, which for…read moreus is Italian. Pizzeria L'Italiano was only a short walk from our flat and totally fit the bill. The two folks that greeted us as we walked in were perfect for the place. The woman wearing an apron that the lovely K coveted immediately, and the young man with the perfectly shaped and waxed moustachioed welcomed us warmly. We sat at a table of our choice and noticed that there were already four tables with reserved signs on them, so the place is popular for sure. We were offered pizza dough buns and garlic butter as opposed to the typical drop and charge that is typical in so many places in Portugal. We had decided prior to going that we were going to say yes. The bread was so warm, and soft with a crunchy exterior that once the butter was added it melted in your mouth. We ordered our customary bottle of white, a fresh salad and some pasta. The lovely K had the Cannelloni, and I the Tri pasta with spaghetti, tortellini and penne. Both sauces were the same with a different pasta noodle. Both were good, plentiful, but not awe inspiring. We are in Portugal after all, but the food more than passed muster. We loved the interior of the building as so often seems to be the case in this UNESCO world heritage site. The curved and vaulted ceilings are gorgeous , we wish we could have them in our home in Canada. If you are looking for some Italian comfort food complete with great service and fair pricing you won't find much better in Evora's old town. Salut!

Pizzas are all cooked to order with fresh ingredients. The restaurant is very clean and the stone walks with brick ceiling is very cool.

The kids got steaks served on hot rocks, I had the Pichana, and my wife had an ahi steak. We started with bread and garlic butter and the iberia ham plate- both were spectacular. The bottle of house wine is significantly better than 99% of california wine, and the chocolate brownie desert and key lime pie was perfection. For a family of 4 with starters, bottles of wine, entrees and desert under $150 euros was a spectacular value.

This spot was a hit for every single person in our group. The bolognese was incredible, fresh Greek salad, my husband had a traditional Porto "sandwich" which is called a francescina (sp?) which is basically a sandwich lasagna or as we liked to call it a wet Portuguese sandwich (a La wet burrito) and everything was great. There was a KIDS MENU (YAY!!!) The kids had kids cheese pizza and butter spaghetti. When we were done my youngest practically threw her body over the leftover pizza so they wouldn't take it away, she was so excited to take home leftovers. They gave the kids lollipops after the meal complimentary. They were attentive and prompt, which we found refreshing. The red fruit champagne sangria (comes in a pitcher so be sure to share or be very thirsty) was delicious! Not too sweet. Overall, everything was excellent and we would go back 10x if we could.
