First time I ever visited this restaurant. The atmosphere is fantastic & the hostesses werevery polite & attentive! We sat at the grill, which is a little awkward but that's how these places work so no complaints! Everything about it was wonderful from the food to our chef! Everything except for our waitress who was very stand offish & we saw her twice during the entire visit. She was very rude & when someone else at the table was asking questions she responded like "I really just don't even know" to every one she asked. My husband and I celebrated our 41st wedding anniversary with a visit to Konomi today, Nov.25th. We began our meal with a large warmed Saki, followed by onion soup and salad. We added the seafood sushi roll as an appetizer. We completed our meal with the Hibachi dinner consisting of lobster, shrimp, and scallops. Included with the meal was an incredible amount of fried rice and grilled mixed vegetables. We have brought home more than another meal for two! The food was so delicious and I highly recommend dining here. The wait time for seating upon opening at 4:30 pm was minimal, and the service was phenomenal! Total bill was just over $90.00 with a $20.00 tip. Not our usual price range but this was a special occasion. There are many cheaper dishes to select. I absolutely love, love, love this place. Their fried rice is the best of any of the Japanese restaurants in and around Birmingham. The portion sizes are huge and the left overs taste just as good the next day. The filet minion is definitely worth the few extra dollars. It's super tender and yummy. The teriyaki chicken is good, too. The service is always good whether you sit at the grill or not. This is my go-to place for lunch. You can get a huge portion for less than $10! read more

This is one of our favorite places to go in the Trussville area. We always sit on the hibachi side and enjoy watching everything being cooked. Not many negative things that I could say about this place, other than the waitresses can be rude at times. Also, be sure to ask for the special "yum yum" sauce if they forget to bring it to you. This is our go-to Japanese place. Great food and atmosphere. We're probably 50/50 hibachi or sushi, and both are great.

On Sunday night we were served our salad and soup at the same time the chef came to the grill and started his show which was fun to watch. But in being served all our food at the same time, we felt quite rushed and also it was a challenge to move the different dishes around in the space we had at the bar. My husband and I shared an entree as did my sister and brother-in-law. There were still left-overs, so the portions were generous. However, neither me or my sister were served any of the vegetables or noodles. It all happened so fast and I expected him to get back to us, but no. We went to Konomi in Trussville tonight. By far the worst date night possible. Me and my wife are talking about lobster tail. A guy next to Leslie said "oh you are allergic" I said yes. He told the chef to put some on my plate. I again said I'm allergic. The chef puts the shellfish on my plate with the rest of my food. I explain that I can't eat my food now and I got up and walked away. I didn't want to lose it in front of kids. The guy told Leslie he thought I was joking about being allergic. Leslie said no and asked for the bill. I called the manager and he said I should have said something about being allergic. I told him I did the manager then said "what do you expect me to do" I said I can't eat the food now. He said "you should have been more clear". I will not go back to Konomi read more

Hibachi experience: The rice, vegetables, and noodles, and chicken were very tasty. The steak was decent, but the shrimp was awful.. We ordered the combination of Steak and Chicken with double rice. The portions of rice were a bit small. The main issue my wife and I had was that the steak she got was exceptionally small(even for a combination order). When she asked for a replacement steak that was the same size as the other people's who ordered Steak and Chicken combinations they brought a larger steak.. They insisted that she keep the one she had. What they didn't tell us is that it was an additional $8.95. When we asked the manager Lingo about why we were being charged, he simply told us that is "what you get when you order the combination". We tried to explain that even with the combination portion, she got a noticeably smaller portion than everyone else. He did not even try to apologize for us not being told that we would still be charged for both steaks. After trying to explain in more detail why we were unhappy with what happened, he became argumentative. I just told him to put it on my card and that we would never be back. He did so without seeming to care that we were still unhappy. We will NEVER again visit Konomi. Mizu, in the same general area is a far superior choice. They have better food, service, and customer service if something gets messed up. read more

I am relatively new to the area and I love sushi! I did a quick Google search of the sushi restaurants in my area and this one appeared at the top with pretty decent reviews. My fiance and I headed over immediately. We ordered 2 sushi rolls, I got the yummy roll, can't remember which roll my fiance had. We also ordered the 'angel crab ragoons' I believe they were called. The mushroom soup that comes with the meal, was delish, the best I've had thus far (thus the one star). The rest, I could have lived without. My roll was anything but yummy. The fish within the roll tasted waterlogged, not fresh at all. The roll had no sauce on it what-so-ever. My fiance's roll was also bad. At one point I had to stop eating because I thought that I might be sick. I finished my meal though, luckily I didn't get sick. The ragoons were okay, but I wouldn't order them again. Also, the portion sizes were small, when I left my belly was still empty and so was my wallet. I'm not sure if this is what good sushi tastes like in this area, but if it is, I'll pass. read more

Took my family out on a Saturday night for my 5 year olds bday and had a horrible time would not recommend this place to no one..we got there at 8 and the cook was not entertaining at all he had our rice done in 3-5 min it was very undercooked did not taste like fried rice i had to actually add soy sauce to mine which i never have had to do at real Japanese places like Kobe's or echabans but the he did cook the meat well just the rice and noodles were bad but the waitress was not great either we felt very rushed and not welcomed as soon as the cook left she came out with TO GO BOXES and actually asked how many we needed,wow really..then she brought our bill out right after that which was 150$, then they did my daughters birthday thing and we haven't even been eating but for 10 min..so now she had her appetizer dinner and desert all at once,well wut ya think a kid is gonna do eat,the desert and no real food,yea thanks for nothing konomis.. read more
