This is my favorite, go to, place for sushi in Trussville. Always tastes fresh and the service is excellent.

We have been coming to Konomi for years, and try to come a few times a year for the kids to have a dinner and show. They are still young enough to be scared by the flames, but they do enjoy watching the chef cook! We've never tried their sushi, but Hibachi is always good and plentiful. My two kids can split a kids meal and still have leftovers for the next day! Note: when you come in they'll ask if you want to sit at a table or hibachi section! read more

My coworkers and I ate here in between workshops. I thought it was going to be the area where they prepared the food in front of you but we sat in a different section to my understanding. The food was good, but I've had better with enough food left over for another meal. Here, it was enough to finish in one sitting. The pricing was fair. I was there for dinner yesterday and ordered Steak and Scallops with rice and mixed vegetables. The scallops and steaks are okay but it came out so salty due to the vegetables being so soupy, the rice is soaked. It is hard to eat it. Service is fine and ambience is okay. read more

I went to this restaurant years ago and wasn't impressed but I am so glad that I went back this week. The food and service have improved drastically and we had the best experience and a delicious lunch I would absolutely go back for! We ordered the Bento Box lunch specials, one with salmon, the other with tempura shrimp and vegetables. Each came with soup, salad, 2 pieces of fried pork gyoza, 3 pieces of california roll, fried rice, and the entree. The soup was delicious and generously portioned. The salad was also perfect and generous. The gyoza were a bit oily for my taste, but otherwise perfect. The california roll and the fried rice were just as you expect and on point. The entrees were also super tasty. The salmon was delicious, cooked medium, not dry, served with a light glaze. The tempura vegetables were amazing and the dipper provided was light and savory. The tempura shrimp had a heavier batter that I wouldn't describe as tempura and I didn't personally care for it. Our service was perfect and the food care out fast! While the restaurant wasn't seemingly busy, the takeout counter was hopping. Clearly the locals know this is a great place! The price for our dinners was $13 per person I think. Ordered $140 worth of food and the thing I ordered was a sushi roll. There were three pieces left when I noticed a long black hair sticking out of the end piece of the roll. I pulled it out and it was cut, meaning that it was strung through the roll, then cut up, and now in the bottom of my stomach. I immediately threw my guts up. I called Konomis to tell them about this horrendous issue and I was offered point credit to use to get a "free roll next time". There will be no next time. Konomi is a great Japanese steakhouse located in Trussville off of Chalkville Mountain Road. It gets packed but they take reservations for parties of 8 or more. We typically are going just for the food so we choose to eat in the dining area/sushi bar and not at the hibachi tables (I know there's another name for them but it's skipped my mind). Usually you don't have to wait and you get the same great food, just no show included (which can be a downer if you've been waiting all day to see a volcano or Japanese egg roll). Ok, I'm getting off track. The sushi is very tasty and reasonably priced compared to other sushi places in the area. The hibachi entrees are the same. Great prices, tons of food (enough for 3 meals when you break it down into the correct food portion per meal), and the service is always great. If you are going on a Friday or Saturday night, think about whether you want the show or just a meal where you can chat face to face on a date or with family. I suggest going early so you don't get stuck waiting a long time. read more

Our first time dining at Konomi. The food was pretty good, but we were very rushed by our server. We ordered an appetizer and a few sushi rolls to begin our dining experience. We specifically asked our server to hold off on our entree orders as we wanted time to enjoy our appetizers. It felt like a feeding frenzy the entire time. I can't say enough good things about Konomi. I try to make it over at least once a week for lunch because the food is consistently great, and the staff are even better. I always look forward to seeing Savannah and Loura, as they're both just so kind and they do an amazing job. Came here for a lunch by myself on a Sunday. It was busy however I didn't want to sit at a hibachi table so I sat a regular table. My server was very attentive. I was disappointed that they didn't have coke products. I started off with the California rolls. They were very tasty. I had the salad,soup and chicken. Everything tasted good. My to go to spot for sushi! I absolutely love this place! The super crunch roll and the southern comfort are two of my favorites! My daughter loves the shrimp yakisoba & I had the salmon bento box! Both amazing! With the exception of my salmon being slightly burnt instead of well done! I really enjoyed the scenery inside and the food was AMAZING the only thing I will say is be prepared to pay a good price for dinner. I've tried the chicken katsu and chicken teriyaki which both was delicious and cooked perfectly. I will also say the dinner portions are A LOT so be prepared to take some home. The service was ok but the waiter really didn't check up on us after the food was delivered so that was meh and the table they put me and my guest at was wobbly so my food almost slid off. But overall I really enjoyed it and will be back for lunch time to try more at a affordable price hopefully with a better table. read more

I decided to do take out instead of dining in and I wasn't impressed. The atmosphere is clean and nice but the food was just mediocre. I got the Tokyo roll $6.95, Derby roll $11.95 and teriyaki chicken dinner $15.95. they were all bland flavors. The sushi was fresh but had no flavor and they didn't include soy sauce which is what I mix with my wasabi. I wanted the bento box teriyaki chicken but it's not available during dinner so I had to pay $6 more for less variety and I was highly disappointed. It's not that this place is "bad" it just isn't worth the $41 when grocery store sushi has more flavor. I personally won't return. read more

My wife and I love Japanese food. We started our relationship 36 years ago eating at a place called Renge's in Greensprings. That has been long gone and needless to say since that time we have tried them all and are looking for new ones that pop up. We have been going to Konomi since it opened many years ago. When it was new it was owned by Ringo, a great guy and the hardest working restaurant owner I have ever known. When Ringo owned Konomi it was hands done our favorite place. Ringo sold it a while back and you know what? It's still our favorite place. Nothing has changed and that my friend is a rarity. The ginger and mustard sauces are still the best in town and no one comes close to their ginger salad dressing. The fried rice is all ways perfect. I had the filet at lunch today and I'm telling you it was melt in your mouth. My wife got the steak and shrimp and she said she thought she got filet by mistake because the meat was so tender. The service is always great and the food is always consistent regardless of the cook but the cooks are always friendly and entertaining. If you are into the sauces for your meal this is unequivocally the best Japanese Steak House in town. We drive all the way across town from Chelsea to Trussville for most special occasions to eat here because it is the best in town. If you have never eaten here, you have not had the best Japanese food in Birmingham. read more
