There's a corn dog for everyone on the menu plus there's fun drinks too. The only reason for four stars here is it's a Korean corndog. Nothing spectacular but I love the choices. The place was somewhat clean. The tables really needed to be wiped more frequently and the smell of grease was everywhere so when you walked out, you smelled like fried food like crazy. They do have a deal by six corn dogs for $30 which was fine. We ordered four and a couple drinks and spent 40 so if there's three of you take the deal it's worth it. I'd come back but there's enough locations elsewhere that I'm not beholden to the rolling Meadows location. read more

I've been to the Kong Dog in Glenview a few years ago and thought while an interesting concept, the food was overall just okay with some hits and some misses. Since it's been a few years and they opened up a location in Vernon Hills, I decided to give it another shot. I went on a Monday evening around prime dinner hours (630pm) and was surprised that I was only one of two customers there. There's quite a bit going on with the decor and it takes a little bit of time to orient yourself around their offerings on the menu. They have a self-service kiosk but since I had a few questions, I opted to just order at the counter. Instead of ordering what they're known for with the specialty hot dogs, I opted for one of their sweet spicy chicken sandwiches. While it comes bundled with fries, I asked if there was an option to get the sandwich a la carte (there was not). I also ordered their mango yogurt tea. Chicken sandwich was pretty good and on par with other korean fried chicken sandwiches I've had in the past. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of the fries and found them to be really lacking in flavor (probably needed more salt). The mango yogurt tea was not bad, but probably something I wouldn't order again given the price point. read more

The batter is more like a less sweet cake, and you can get anything from a ramen coating, to a hot Cheetos dusting. All of them read pretty sweet, except for the ramen dog, which was super crunchy but lacked any seasoning. The regular kong dog has a coating of crunchy sugar, kind of like the rebellious child of a corn dog and a funnel cake. They also have boba which I'd like to try next time. My oldest was in town and spotted Kong Dog while we were out and about and made the comment that they do not have this type of chain where they live. So in we go, it's an L shaped space with LOTS of signage telling you everything you need to know, which is a good thing because there is no person to really talk to. There are a few workers behind the counter but they are busy preparing the orders. Ordering is DIY via a kiosk, when your order is ready, an automated paging system let's you know, so human factor has been removed here. That could be a plus or a minus depending on how you feel about human interaction ;) It was not that busy when we were there, only two other groups and it still took time for our order, so I could see if it was busy, the wait might be longer. I decided to play it safe and basically got a giant mozzarella cheese stick to split with my better half. It was not bad. They had a limited time deal going $30 for a six pack, which is about a $1 off a regular dog so a good deal if you have a group. read more

I got a very weird vibe being in this restaurant - no human interaction and blaring K-pop music videos and lots of visual stimulation. Very diverse menu with a huge variety to choose from but we came to try the corn dogs! Huge number of variations available but I chose to try the half cheese half hot dog potato covered dog. Definitely unique but not much flavor. Ketchup, if that's what it was, in a mini bottle on the table helped. The beef was a better option than the cheese but both were interesting. Fries were generous for a regular size. My buddy tried a couple different ones and liked his spicy dog the most. The traditional Korean options looked interesting but that Vibe will keep me from returning...... I hope this isn't the future of restaurants. read more

This was my first ever Korean corn dog! A friend of mine had been wanting to try them and Kong Dog was open after we wrapped up at Par-King, relatively late at night. I was a little reluctant to mix savory and sweet, so I chose a Spaghetti Kong Dog with mozzarella filling. My friend went traditional with half mozzarella and half beef hotdog filling. While we were waiting, we chatted with the owner and he offered us the beef dumplings and fries on the house, which was very nice of him. There is a good amount of seating inside and we hung out on the couch in the front- a cool area to get comfortable and chat with friends. The aesthetic was cute overall, and the lighted Kong Dog mascot is adorable. The Kong Dogs are made to order and fried fresh . The spaghetti one was basically a huge mozzarella stick with marinara sauce on top. It was hot, crisp, and tasty, but I couldn't finish it. The best Kong Dog was the traditional one with beef hotdog. The beef hotdog is smoky and salty, and it pairs well with the sweeter batter and sugar topping. The fries and dumplings were tasty too. Overall, this is good spot to try the famous Korean corn dogs. Just opened up in Vernon Hills. They are still trying to figure things out so they can't take orders over the phone, and that their Google listings phone number is wrong right now but you can find the correct phone number on the official Kong Dog franchise website. The ordering is basically a kiosk, you do it yourself without talking to anyone. Just like all the recently opened bubbletea or Korean franchises. They make everything fresh as you order. These are very well fried, coating and size are superb~! I had a box of sweet chili, ramen, milky, regular, sweet potato and regular potato. My favorite is milky, it's got both sweet and savory profile and not like overtly crunchy like the others. The sweet chili sauce is also really good and can be used for regular dog one too. Their fries are thick and very well fried, crunchy and salt level is just right. The ube latte is just OK, I feel like it's missing the taro fragrance and a little too powder based for my taste. Otherwise, this is great, I would definitely come back because my kids love these too. read more

Today was my first experience eating at a Kong Dog location, and it was great! The interior was clean and nicely decorated. The service was friendly and helpful with recommendations, and the food was delicious. I ordered the milky dog (half mozzarella/half beef dog) with a side of honey mustard and an order of the Kong fries (ordered extra crispy). The dog was absurdly delicious. It was the perfect combination of sweet, salty, crisp, chewy, and melty-gooey. I can't recommend it enough! The Kong fries were a huge portion with plenty to share between two or even three people as a side or appetizer. The fries were cooked perfectly crisp, and if you are a fellow lover of really crispy french fries, I would recommend ordering them extra crispy. Ultimately, I didn't love the Kong fries though, as the toppings made the fries soggy pretty quick, and the eating experience with the hot Cheeto powder was a bit of a strange texture to me. However, I believe these are personal preference issues, and that the dish itself is fun and creative and would be enjoyed by plenty of folks. In the future, and I will definitely be back, I will probably just order plain fries (cooked extra crispy) with a side of spicy mayo for dipping. read more
