Konak Meze is a Turkish restaurant set at the end of a row of terraced houses. Smart looking and inviting, we pre-booked a table, which would be advisable at the weekend, as I suspect this fairly small restaurant could get very busy. On the night we visited, it was fairly quiet and we were shown to a large round table; the whole restaurant has a comfortable feel, it feels like you are sitting in somebody's front room! Not having visited a Turkish restaurant before we went for the the pre-theatre menu (two courses for £11.95), we chose the shared Hot Meze Platter to start, which was a great choice. A huge dish in both variety and size: kofte, falafel, squid rings, pita and halloumi, wonderful flavoursome, I'd definitely have this dish again. My wife and I went for similar main courses, I had the stuffed aubergine with minced lamb, green and red peppers, with home made chips and salad. A great dish, as was my wife's vegetarian dish of stuffed aubergines, packed with vegetables. Just spicy enough to be flavoursome, not overpowering.
All in all, a great meal; after two substantial courses we had no room for a dessert, which was a shame, but I'm sure when we next visit Harrogate, Konak Meze will be first on our list to revisit. The complementary homemade Turkish Delight with the bill was a nice touch, which mirrored the attitude of the staff all evening, helpful and unobtrusive. read more
