I'm only as perturbed as I am under the illusion that finding a place that was once owned by Johnny Depp means I'm now married to him. Okay, so this particular Viper Rooms wasn't owned by Johnny Depp but it shares the same name. That is close enough for me. Now will it live up to expectations? Well actually yes it does. It's housed in a Grade II listed building and inside they've spared little expense. We're talking four bars surrounded by multiple rooms and a mad mix up of music as well. You'll get anything from disco to Hip Hop. It is beautiful, it really is. A special mention goes out the centre piece chandelier and quite awesome (not to mention comfortable) leather sofas throughout. To get you in the mood and your disco shoes raring the drinks menu will blow you away. It beats some clubs I've been to with a huge selection of cocktails, wines, fizz and beer. This is grade A stuff. It may be a little mainstream for some people's tastes but just go with the flow and enjoy the venue if nothing else.

It's ok as clubs go but had 3 permanent cocktail and drinks menus on the wall but didn't have any…read moremilk to make several of the cocktails!! Milk for heavens sake- not exactly difficult to come by is it?! Also Jägerbombs and several other drinks similar were advertised but they didn't have any shot glasses..in a club.. It all unfortunately shows a couldn't care less attitude on the part of the management.

Was really looking forward to our meal at las iguanas especially as the menu promised a plethora of…read moreexciting South American dishes. But that is where the excitement ended. We went for a meal on a very quiet Monday evening with a total of around 8 people sat down to eat. We were show to a table and given the menus to read through and our drinks order was taken after a few glances at the watch at around 10 minutes after sitting down. Luckily we had already picked our food order so ordered everything at the same time. Our starters came after 20 minutes (30 mins after arriving) and then we watched a couple get fed up with the wait and leave after an hour, we decided to stick with it and grind through until the food was delivered. This happened after 1hr and 20 mins, and the food while edible was.....meh I looked at all the food and thought the the item that took the longest to cook should have been around 20-25 mins in a restaurant / professional kitchen so I wondered why it had taken an hour in order to start cooking. Everything was edible and hot (you would hope so), but if there were major issues behind the scenes I would have expected to be told about it during the wait....but we had nothing, no communication and no offer to refill our drinks. After the meal we were asked if we wanted dessert but we were not prepared to wait another 30 minutes. I was frustrated enough to post this review (which is my first yelp review) and I could have forgiven them if it had been full of people but there was next to nobody in there...perhaps people already know what I have discovered...which is....if you want 5/10 food....and you want to wait 80 minutes, the. Las Iguanas is the place to go !!

Sounds like a plan Stan but one more quick tipple and whet the old whistle so I pop into Banyan Bar. It's an appealing looking building from outside to in and has the same people behind it as Arc in Headingley. It was also voted best bar in Harrogate in the Harrogate Confidential Awards and it's a boast that it may well deserve some claim to. For starters the food looks immense. One of their signature dishes is the Kobe burger, the worlds most expensive and decadent beef originating in the Kobe region of Japan. These cows are massaged for a stress free life style. Well as stress free as it can be before you become a burger I suppose. They also do buffet menus which offer a variety of wraps, nibbles and sandwiches. All for under a tenner. The wine list is to my liking. Try the Pinot Grigio blush, ideal drink when the sun comes out. As for the cocktails...This town really is no good for my liver. Inventive and tantalising combinations of juices and spirits. Excellent work. Great for socialising, eating and with a beautifully down interior. I just hope I don't get sat next to one of those massaged cows next time I go there.

I maybe should have continued that rather embarrassing trend on heading into Moko. Holy multi coloured cow! This is one bright and colour splashed mother. It is like a rainbow explosion or the results of over eating Skittles. However it kind of works. The scheme gives it a vibrant and funky edge and after a while I stop checking what cigarettes I've been smoking or who has had access to my drinks. As for the music you'll find house and r n b on a Saturday. All mixed together by the in house DJs. Just a tip here to one said DJ, maybe DJ Lawrence James isn't the most catchy signature tag. Just a thought. If you want to come throughout the week though, they have ample nights of bedlam and musical highs. Tuesdays are Geek Chic night with the aptly named DJ Trev at the helm for some Indie themed inspiration. It's quite a departure from many places in Leeds city centre but it is one that has to be seen to be believed.

Why go elsewhere - I've got music venues, brilliant bars, eclectic nightclubs and a plethora of great restaurants within a few miles of my home? One reason is, of course, friends. Harrogate is a different night out to Leeds, you'll notice that as soon as you step foot out of the train station. There's less of a scene. There's no defined indie/electro/dubstep or any niche nights of note on a weekend. Harrogate isn't specialist. Moko Lounge, mind, is open till six in the morning on a weekend. And that, for those of us who have the stamina to dance, literally, all night long; it truly is a very special place. It's strange walking out of a club and seeing people go to work though, really strange. Drinks aren't cheap but the barmen are all skilful, flaring left, right and centre and concocting thirst-quenching mouth-wateringly good cocktails. At a price. In the girls toilets, there's straighteners which made the night of the girls I was on the town with. Give me a toilet attendant who's got Chupa-Chups over straighteners any day, though.
