One entrée Aloha Plate (One Items ) with barbecue chicken
Rhonda M.

My coworkers and I were hungry for dinner last night and decided to order from Kona Hawaiian barbecue. We decided to order online. Through their online menu you cannot pay online. You have to pay when you get there. This is usually not a problem, but we had someone picking up for us. And we made that work. It was OK. When I received my food, there was enough food to eat. But it was all in all very lackluster. The salad had a small amount of dressing on it, and it was all in one spot, so most of the salad had no dressing. The white rice was cooked well but there was no sauce from the barbecue to really Give it any flavor. Also, the barbecue chicken was also cooked well but just not real flavorful. It was just OK. It was one of those meals that I would describe as something you would eat to just say that you've eaten today. I would have to say given the choice of having this restaurant food again or going without I would go without. It's not worth the money.

I was really disappointed with this meal. The beef was completely unseasoned and tasted like nothing. The sauce tasted like straight tap water. The rice was super dry, and the pasta tasted way too much like mayo it just wasn't good. The chicken even had cold spots inside, which is concerning. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if someone ended up with food poisoning. The only thing I enjoyed was the cabbage, but by that point I didn't even feel comfortable eating anything else on the plate. This meal reminded me a lot of Ono Hawaiian BBQ from Arizona, and the pictures which is what caught my attention in the first place. Unfortunately, this experience was a huge disappointment.

Cute and clean little restaurant. Service was efficient and hostess was super friendly. Food was just okay and didn't warrant the more expensive pricing. I got the Chicken Katsu plate and shared the spam musubi's with my husband (2 come in 1 order). The chicken Katsu was hot and crunchy but the chicken was pounded super thin and lacked any juiciness or flavor. They had Teriyaki sauce and katsu sauce but they didn't wow either. IMO the chicken Katsu should be flavorful and good on its own without having to drench in sauces. The Hawaiian mac salad was actually pretty good but seemed like a smaller scoop than the rice. TBH, I would have preferred to drive a little further south to L&L.

Clean place with cute wood tables and stools. Clean over all atmosphere. Fast service. Food soooo fresh and packed with flavor will definitely be returning here!

Love myself some Hawaiian food! Kona BBQ off Peoria was cute inside with lots of fun decorations. Service was quick and food came out fresh. Lots of dishes to choose from! Lots of Kalua pork in my plate but unfortunately pretty dry, and the cabbage was on the bottom rather than mixed in like I prefer. The Mac salad was lacking flavor and the scoop felt small compared to the rice scoops. Overall, will likely try again based on the variety of dishes yet to try!

Cute lil spot and the customer service was good. The food, it was "okay". Nothing amazing like I hoped for. The beef was the only thing good. We had the combo plate that had the short ribs as well as the bbq beef. Both was very tender and had a good taste. The Kona fired chicken was okay but it was overcooked and dry. And it didn't look anything like the picture so that was disappointing. I love Hawaiian bbq macaroni salad but this one lacked flavor big time. Overall, I was pretty dissatisfied with the food and not sure if I'll return.

I've always wanted to come here since I go to the Starbucks in next door but they're not open in the morning and finally I was able to come here during lunch. The inside is nice and clean. There's a wide of food choices. I got the barbecue mix special with barbecue chicken beef and Korean steak. It was delicious and exceeded my expectations. I came with some pasta and cabbage and broccoli and rice. I didn't sit inside since it was a beautiful day so I ate my food in the Starbucks patio, along with my Starbucks drink. I will definitely be back.

The extra star is for the cheerful service. Lots of parking in shared lot. Seems to be popular as lots of take out orders. We think it's average. Mac salad wasn't crisp and fresh. Kalua pork dry and seemed to have been leftover from night before. He doused it in lots of sauce but it was meh. My fish and shrimp were so so. Spam musubi lacked seasoning and was a little dry as well. But the decor is cute and the service great. Maybe an off day.

Me and some coworkers ordered Kona Hawaiian Bbq and we had a coworker pick it up. While all of us received everything we ordered, the food itself was kind of lacking. The katsu chicken breading didn't have much seasoning and fell right off the chicken. The bbq chicken was alright and had a good texture/flavor but it wasn't enough to save the meal. For the price I was really expecting more. I don't know if it's just because this was a larger order and they were rushing so maybe I'll have to go back for an individual meal.

Crab Rangun that tasted weird
Lily B.

Ordered delivery and it was incredibly disappointing. The food just wasn't good. I ordered the bbq mix katsu plate and it had no short ribs at all! The katsu sauce was so sweet and weird tasting (like old). The crab rangoons tasted weird almost like freezer burnt. I never leave reviews this bad but everything was so bland. The bbq beef was like little bits of old meat. I posted pictures. And it looks like a lot of food for the price but really it's just laying on a bed of cabbage to make it look like that in pictures. I will not be back and I can't even finish eating it. Gross. I've had far better Hawaiian food and thought this would be a safe choice.

Charging me $.10 for a bag when I'm eating in at the store

Great food I wish they did a little more research in their decor Claiming Australian boomerangs as Hawaiian Ha ha

And what's with the $.10 bag fee? Denver says restaurants are exempt?

I LOVE Hawaiian BBQ. I have it all the time, both in Hawaii and in the states - this is probably the worst I've ever had? Sad - so close to my house - I could have been a weekly customer! The good: very clean restaurant and very nice workers The bad - EVERYTHING ELSE! Don't stop reading - hear me out: Mixed Fire Chicken and BBQ Beef -- chicken was not spicy - had a good "appearance" but no real flavor - just thigh meat with a minimum of seasoning - and zero ability to add a hot sauce (they had a runny teriyaki and a very sweet Katau sauce - both where meh! The beef reminded me of VERY CHEAP Chinese takeout quality -- odd texture and poorly developed flavors. The Kalua pork had NO SAUCE? Hhmm. Let's think about that -- no sauce and no flavor. Wasn't smoked. Wasn't salty. Wasn't anything - but a clump of shredded meat presented with an equally unappetizing salad. The mac salad was passable, but certainly followed the trend of purchased - not produced. Overall - there was ZERO PASSION in any of these dishes - other pics online would suggest that their other entrees are just as bland. I've patronized MANY. A Hawaii food truck and mom&pop hole-in-the-wall joints that absolutely kill this food genre - this cookie cutter franchise will never achieve that, in my opinion?! Again - so sad give. Their proximity! Compare some pics - do some research! Aloha Grill (spokane wa) Broke Da Mouth Grinds (Kona HI) Old school - local, passion, great Hawaiian COMFORT food - made from scratch not a pre-order fast sheet!

Great neighborhood find. VERY clean inside and cute decor. Everything is made to order, super impressive. It was cranking the night we went but it was pretty quick considering it's freshly made. Pork was a little dry and shrimp were underwhelming. Flavor of all the meats were good though and dumplings were on point, rice well made, macaroni salad on point. Loved the bit of broccoli to feel better about yourself.

Amazing food! My go to order is the BBQ mix combo. But the chicken Katsu with the Katsu sauce is what keeps me coming back. Love this place!

The location is smallish, so we try to go before or after the lunch rush, but it's clean and inviting. I also ordered catering for pickup last June. The communication to get everything just right was friendly, precise, and polite, and they went above and beyond to get my little order together between their bigger June events (weddings, graduations, etc.). Outstanding customer service, plus the first food to disappear at our party was all No Ke Aloha - no bigger or better set of review stars than that. Mahalo to all and see you for lunch soon!

So many choices of protein for the plate lunches and I was torn between poke and kalua pig. But poke always wins. And I was discussing Hawaiian Sun flavors with the next person in line. Passion orange guava my fav but I caved to his recommendation of lilikoi passion fruit. It was refreshing and tasty. A more subtle flavor. The poke was fresh and the rice so good. And of course the Mac salad was delicious. So many memories of HI. Can't wait to eat the spam musubi for lunch tomorrow. It'll be so awesome. They are a fantastic family and an amazing restaurant to frequent. Their catering is yummy so I'm glad to support their pop up fundraiser.

Their no alcohol cocktails are just as thoughtful, balanced, and well presented as their alcoholic ones, which made the experience feel intentional instead of like an afterthought. I tried several drinks, including their no alcohol Mai Tai, Painkiller, and a few tropical forward options, and every single one was well balanced and flavorful. Nothing felt overly sweet or flat. The Anchored Tides in particular stood out with a bold, bitter profile that still felt refreshing. The food was also solid. The spam musubi and wings were both really well done and paired nicely with the drinks. The space is fun, vibey, and welcoming, especially if you're not drinking and still want to feel included. This is a great spot whether you're doing Dry January or just want a well crafted drink without alcohol. I'll definitely be back.
