Tommy and JP were fantastic with our kids (even when my son got a little upset mid-way through the tour) and provided a truly fun and memorable experience for all of us. The outrigger canoe tour was part tour and part history lesson of the Kona area, and was very nicely done. As guests at the hotel, we also worked with the Kona Boys to receive the beach gear items we were entitled to with our resort fee. All was great on that front too. I am so happy I did the private lessons. I now feel confident going to group yoga classes, and know what the instructor is talking about. I see a lot of people looking around trying to figure out what they are suppose to be doing, but not me! I know the correct posture for each position, as well as what the main poses are called. I am also getting pretty good at doing the sun salutations. I am so happy Lindsay showed them to me over and over again in slow motion, because I actually know how to do it (most of the class struggles with them). I highly recommend taking some private lessons with her!

I originally had a reservation for a Sunday afternoon at 1:30 pm but the employee was honest and said the water was really choppy and it wouldn't be fun or easy to get to the Captain Cook Monument. Recommended I come back the next day day so I did and was so glad! I rented a double kayak and was able to pay card upon arrival. Came out to just under $63 for a rental I could've used all day. They opened at 7 am and we got out on the water by 7:30 am. The bay was like a lake that Monday morning. Bay Side Kayak lent us a large water bag that kept our belongings dry and safe. Would use this company again!

But some Kona dive friends have introduced me to much better dive opportunities there during the day time. Located on Ehukai St near the old location of the Sheraton, now an Outrigger hotel, there is a cross walk that leads out to a concrete path. At the end of the path, there is a jump off point into the water, and rock pathway out of the water. Once in the water (don't forget your dive flag), follow the reef out about 100 yards. This is an active boat channel, so if you surface swim out partways, stay on the side closest to the hotel. There will be a slow incline, then it will rapidly descend to the bottom. Stay along that ledge going out until you see a concrete pylon on its side. That is the area the becomes the "campfire" on the night manta dive, where all the lights are set to attract the mantas. During the day, that area is a manta cleaning station, where they slowly move around to allow fish to come and clean them by eating algae and other things that irritate their skin. As fun as it is to see the mantas rushing around at night trying to eat plankton as fast as they can, there is a poetic beauty to seeing them moving slowly during the day. For 2 out of the 3 dives I've done there, we've also been lucky enough to see sub-adults who are a lot more curious than most and got came very close to us! The reef there is pretty dead there, so there pretty much there isn't much else to see there. But to see the mantas gracefully moving around the cleaning station, wow! Repeat and recommend!

There is roadside parking on Kamehameha II Road but that fills up very quickly as expected. Anyways, the bay itself is beautiful to check out and it is protected from rough waves and currents. But it's mostly full of commercial snorkeling companies and resorts, so there isn't a whole lot to do outside of that other than standing or sitting and enjoying the views.

Don't let the drive in stop you unless you have a super low riding car. The road in is both paved…read morein spots and incredibly rough in others. Take your time and it will be worth it. We didn't stay at the beach at the parking lot, choosing to park and hike into the trees and the gorgeous beach at the end of the trail. We arrived early morning and were one of only 2-3 cars already here. By the time we left at 1:00 the parking lot was much fuller. Take snorkel gear, water, and anything that will allow you to stay and relax both the water and on the beach. There are some trees for shade but don't expect them to be unoccupied. Plan ahead. We spent lots of time snorkeling with turtles, which we left a,one as much as possible. One of them seemed interested in us and we had to repeatedly trying to to avoid him for his own safety. Our swim was really enjoyable and families can bring young children as this bay area seems safely out of strong water tides and pull. There are rough rocks in areas so watch where you enter, swim and exit.

We loved the surf class so much we brought friends with us this time. We signed three 11 year old kids up for a semi-private class. We were texted the night before the class and asked if we could move our 9:00 am class to 11:30 am. I said sure, no problem. The next day, we had one kid drop out. We had a new instructor. He was nice but didn't prep the kids for surfing (irresponsible). After an hour and a half, the instructor brought the kids back and said the office should have contacted me about the new class time. Classes are no longer two hours, the new times will be reflected on the website. I called the office for a week, no one answered and the voicemail was full. No one responded to my email and I texted the number that texted me for the time change with no luck. The website says a TWO HOUR surf lesson, it has not changed. I feel cheated and no one has contacted me.

He had informed us that they don't do jet ski rentals and he doubts anywhere on the island does. He really got under my friends skin and was acting very weird about the situation. We had found out from a parasailing company that people had gotten hurt on the jet skis and they were currently banded from renting in the big island. Idk why this big island water sports guy couldn't explain it to us like them. He left a bad taste in our mouths and made us not wanna rent anything from him.

I was riding with a group of guys I met at the island. And "Apparently" one of the guys "had" an…read moreaccident on the jet ski and they charge him $250.00 for the damage ( make sure YOU guys Check your jet ski your riding before and after because the damage was already there and the poor guy had to pay for someone else damage... but that's not it .. after that I check my bank account and they also had charge me $250.00 ... It's a company, they should have insurance or have a better protocol for their damaged equipment so renters don't have to deal with damages and get scammed by them. That's not cool !!!
