Can't believe I have never written a review of this place. Absolute hidden gem. My husband & I took my girlfriend here for her Birthday. He & I have been several times. She loved it ! We were out on a "School Night" so there was no crowd. The Bartender was very very attentive & even played some Jazz at our request. Drinks were great & reasonably priced. I love the ambiance & they have done a few upgrades since our last visit. I look forward to hanging out here more in the Spring. read more

This little spot is a cozy place to just relax and enjoy some drinks. I thought the warm feel of the relaxed environment is perfect to start the night with friends. There is nice patio area to sit and relax while you enjoy the company of your loved ones or friends. The prices on drinks are great, not bad at all. The staff was friendly but the bartender that attended me had an attitude problem. It may have been a bad day for her but other than that I had a great time. Any bar set in an old house has my vote...but when I walked in and heard LCD Soundsystem playing from the jukebox I got excited. Then, as I was cheerfully greeted by someone's little dog as I sat down, I was sold. Komodo's, my friends, is the tops. And with plenty of seating inside and out, great bartenders (THANKS WILL!), a diverse crowd, plenty o' charm, a small private parking lot, and well-priced drinks, you'd be hard pressed to argue with that statement. 4.0 stars. When he said "Midtown", I was thinking "No thanks!" When he said "It's a cute little house," I thought "Not for my happy hour, sir!" However. I would definitely come back to Komodo's. The drinks were plentiful (great service!), the atmosphere was chill, and parking was easy. The interior is cozy and homey without being too dirty or divey (or making me feel like I was drinking in a thrift store) - I was there with people I'm not all that close with, and we had a fun, relaxed time. I could see the crowd starting to change a bit when we left (~8 p.m.), but I'd definitely recommend this place for the early evening. read more

The location is right around the corner from midtown square- perfect for after dinner drinks. I'm giving this place a 4 star rating, but I would totally give it a five for Sunday-Thursday nights. On the weekend past 10PM, it's flooded with yuppies. Otherwise, the bartenders are friendly, the drinks are yummy, and I like playing Erotic Photo Hunt there. The house, as everyone already mentioned, is so cute! I've never seen the parking lot that the other Yelper mentioned; I always have a ridiculous time parking. I'll have to drive around next time and see what I'm missing! I had heard of Komodo's, but after I got back from Europe that seemed to be the bar of choice. Its a small little house, that has a nice patio and cheap drinks. Never too crowded and always a good time. We love going there on Sundays, because they have great deals and we can just hang out. They even have board games! Im such a dork. I really like Komodos. As everyone else has said, it has a really chill laid back vibe. Nothing like the rest of midtown and that's a good thing! Maybe I have something different in mind when I think of "dive bar" because I really wouldn't call this a dive bar, the cocktails aren't cheap and they offer semi-fancy drinks...which I usually don't come across at a dive bar. My rating teeters between a 3 and 4, which isn't bad by any means. It's loud and small, there is an electronic jukebox and TV, tables, couches, bar area...all inside a former house. Fantastic for people watching. Actually really does remind me of a frat party in college...except if frat houses had ratings I would rarely give one over 3 stars lets be honest. read more

I have had many Friday afternoon happy hours turn into a whole evening here. The music is great because it is so random. There is a jukebox that you can go online and order anything. All of this sudden Beyonce will come on and it turns into a random dance party on the front porch of the bar :) I've always had great service and this place brings in a random, entertaining, and friendly crowd. read more

This is Lizard's Lounge and LZ's cousin pub and is a nice place to hang or chill with friends especially on a nice evening. It is a great use of an old house. It is also a great escape when midtown gets packed with non-residents, suburbanites, and/or fresh off-the-school yuppies on weekends looking for the latest club. Have you ever seen a 3-inch heeler asking a guy wearing shorts if there is a cover to this place? I do miss the drug deals going on the road behind it from a few years! read more

Komodo is one of my favorite chill bars in Midtown. Who can beat $1 jello shots and potent drinks? I love hanging out in the kitchen area and christening Komodo first-timers with a Nuclear Rainbow. I think this is the perfect place to spend a low-key night. Bring some cards or Cards Against Humanity and hang out with 3-20 of your closest friends. Yesterday, I went up to the bar and they ran out of jello shots (sad face). I spoke to the bartender and asked for a comparable shot and he suggested the white gummi bear. It tasted exactly like a gummi bear! It was $5.50, but it was also a three gulp shot. It was really delicious and highly recommended. It's the kind of place that you can have a real conversation and get hammered drunk. They have a great porch area and plenty of outside seating. My one qualm is that the jukebox when left unattended can play music that may be out of character for the bar. Sometimes when the jukebox is attended to it still plays weird music, but I guess that's the nature of a jukebox. read more

This place is nice and cozy! Its a bar that in a house. Apparently they're known for their "Rainbow Shot" or "Nuclear Shot". This "shot" is deadly! Its layered in a martini glass (yes, filled all the way to the rim) and you "shoot" it by using a straw to suck from the bottom up. Initially, the shot is pretty tasty; however, towards the top (or end of the shot) its nasty! There's at least 151 and blue cruces in the shot (I didn't really pay attention). But you should try it and see how crazy this shot is! read more

This was one of my favorite spots in Houston to just have a drink with some friends. It also is a decent place to pick up preppie people if you happen to enjoy that market. Indeed, I remember one night when my friends were headed back to my place and we saw two people getting it on (and loudly, i might add) on top of a truck right in the parking lot. But I digress... As stated in a previous review, the bar is actually a house! As such, from an ambience standpoint, this place is phenomenal as a comfortable place to just hang out. Inside the house, there are a few tables where you can sit, an actual bar, and a jukebox. You can also sit outside at numerous tables, and they generally have a bartender outside as well. The crowd is mostly middle to middle-upper class kids ranging from mid-twenties to early thirties. It brings an interesting mix of couples and partiers. The bar is also very close to other fun places in Houston (Farrago, Front Porch Pub, Little Woodrow's, etc). As far as parking (since there appears to be a conflict on this point), there is definitely a parking lot directly behind the bar. It doesn't hold an enormous amount of cars, however, so good luck finding parking there on the weekend. read more

Cool little nook in midtown. It's in an old house and has plenty of patio space. One negative - bar staff making everyone tab out each time there's a shift change. Have gone here a couple times and would far prefer to spend time here than other places in midtown. Bonus points for having sake and sake 'flights' available. Young crowd but not overly obnoxious. read more

Xavier makes the best Old Fashion and Moscow Mules. I've been here twice in my 3 week stint since moving to Houston. He is an artist that has found his craft. All of his drinks are made with the same attention to detail and scrutiny for the best ingredients that any of the finest bars in San Francisco would fight for. I will be coming back repeatedly and definitely recommending this to friends. Try the Diablo and come on Wednesdays. There may be gourmet chicken tacos marinated in spinach, cilantro, caramelized jalapeños, lime, and bell peppers. He could also have a cult following if he had a specialty taco truck! read more

So,I really enjoy the space and ambiance of Komodo. I always try to stop in when I'm roaming around in the area with friends. It's very intimate and has a good feel. Any time I bring someone they never want to stay for long due to the service aspect. Each time I go,I feel that the bartender is only friendly/polite to people who are regulars. She just never seems inviting or responsive and everything is kind of apparently condescending. I'm generally fine with this because it may just be that kind of spot,but because my friends are accustomed to a more customer forward approach to service; they're always pretty off-put when I bring them in and immediately want to leave. If not for that; it would be the perfect little spot. read more

Home sweet home. Komodos is an old house from the 1920's converted into a local bar with new orleans decor on the inside. Great drinks, funny ass regulars, awesome juke box, diverse crowd, fireplace for the fall/winter, three TVs for games and great bartenders. Pizzas are now on the menu, but almost every delivery restaurant in the midtown/montrose will swing by if you order. A must come to in Midtown and not as young and douchy as its sister bar, Lizards. Downsides: no NFL ticket package and parking is an issue at times. If you're lucky, you may even meet the two ghosts! I live really close by komodo pub and have been there a few times in the evening. The place has the layout of a house and is very casual. The drinks were reasonably price and tasted good. I think the music is a little too loud for conversation which could be good or bad. Don't like who you're with? No problem, the music is loud enough so you wont have to say anything. If you do like who you're with hopefully you can talk loud or read lips. read more

It looked nice in there and the service was alright so I'm sure it's a great bar, but I just couldn't enjoy myself because everyone was just so young...and loud. OMG... I love this place...so much that I'm scared to write a 5 star review for fear that too many people will found out about this gem! A complete 180 from the rest of the midtown area that surrounds it, Komodo is a relaxed bar that is welcoming and a perfect place to relax and chat with friends. Probably also a good get to know your date spot. Its a lot like most of the bars in Montrose but with less of the dreaded try-to-hard hipster vibe that's common to places like Poison Girl. The layout is like a house with tons of indoor and outdoor seating. The decor is random, tons of comfy couches and each time i've been there the music is completely different. Unpredictable yet fun. Most people tend to stick with their crowd and this isn't really a super social hotspot./pickup type of place. It is a casual atmosphere and somewhere you'd want to bring your friends. There is parking in their lot and usually available street parking before 7pm on weeknights around the Camden City Centre area. Pro Tip: Wine-down Wednesdays are awesome! 10 flights, $5 glasses and $2.75 wells during happy hour (although I'm not sure if that's every day happy hour or just that day) and they serve the tastiest free appetizers. Whoever is cooking knows what they are doing. I've gone two Wednesdays in a row and am sad that I did not go last Wednesday :( read more

Cozy house pub that makes you feel like you're in a warm log cabin in the heart of the winter (not sure why, perhaps the decor?). Either way, they only sell drinks here (food is served only on limited days), with a bar area and little rooms with additional seating. Best thing about this place is their great prices! I really would like to give this place higher, but the female bartender was a total bitch. My friend and I went in one day after work, there was hardly anyone in there and after she gave us our beers we introduced ourselves thinking it would be a great place to just hang out at and know the bartenders, but she seemed like she couldn't have cared less and basically ignored us. Huge disappointment because I could really see myself hanging out there otherwise. The waitresses and bartenders at Front Porch on the other hand are much more personal and I know most of their names and they know mine. read more

I used to like this pub, but for the last 2yrs, EVERY time i go inside...they have loud dance music blasting away. Bartenders have always been great, drinks are strong...but it's a renovated old house with night club music. After 2yrs and over 10 visits, i'm going to have to finally write it off. read more
