This is my second time visiting this restaurant. I absolutely love Ann Arbor, and the food scene here is some of the best in the country. Kolachi serves good food, but unfortunately the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. The staff is not particularly welcoming, seating takes a long time, servers rarely check in, and even basics like naan seem to be rationed. On my visit, I also noticed ants near the buffet area, which was concerning. Overall, the food is enjoyable, but the dining experience is heavily impacted by the lack of hospitality and attention to customers. With better service and improved cleanliness, this restaurant could be much better. read more

Okay I have been eyeing this place for a while now. Finally got the try it. Before I go in this place does not really have a seating area. They do have like three tables but I think those are for people that are waiting or I guess you could use them to eat quickly and go. More of a take home and enjoy vibes. We order the beef bihari roll in naan and chicken sheek kebab in naan and an order or chicken spring rolls and mango lassi. Mango lassi was FRESH! The food was amazing, it was fresh, and the rolls were so flavorful. Little spicy but so so so good. I'm honestly excited to go back and try the other stuff off the menu. Didn't get any pictures of the rolls as we sat in the car to eat. Chicken spring rolls are sooooooo good two come in an order Total was around 27.00 which you can't beat! This is a takeout restaurant. Highly recommend calling ahead as it takes time to get your food. We are not from the area so we tend to stop here when we need to be in the metro Detroit area. We ordered the large BBQ platter which had a little bit of everything, including naan and raita. I do think it came with too much rice especially when compared to the amount of meat but everything tasted great, despite us driving 2hrs back home to eat it. read more

Kolachi Kichen has a more limited menu, but it packs a flavor punch! My coworker picked up lunch for us during a busy day. They were out of the item I had initially wanted, so I opted for an order of beef samosas and chicken seekh kabab. The smell was heavenly! I'm surprised my coworker made it back without diving in! The seekh kabab was full of meat, so flavorful and perfectly spiced. I asked for mild spice. The beef samosas were packed with beef and super crispy. They were a bit greasy but the flavor was strong and delicious. Those were a bit spicier. Even with a limited menu, I was really impressed with their cuisine. They also have a Ramadan menu for the holiday which I think is perfect. I will absolutely be returning! read more

I totally drop the ball making dinner today. So, we jumped into the truck and drove down the main road. At least we narrowed it down right away to Indian / Pakastani cuisine. We came across Kolachi and decided to give it a try. This restaurant is primarily a take-out restaurant. They do have an extremely small dining area inside that accommodates 6 - 8 people max. Additionally, there is seating outside with heaters if needed. We decided to eat inside of getting take-out. We ordered Beef Nihari( spiced beef cooked in brown gravy ), butter chicken, beef seekh kabob( mix spiced beef ), and chicken tikka lek ( marinated in mixed spices and grilled ). Each entrée is served with Naan( a flat bread ) or rice. My wife also had a mango lassi. One after the other for a total of three. Does this tell you how good they are ? All in all, dinner was very good. I would the gravy for the Beef Nihari to be thicker, although this is a personal choice. The lady who was running the front house of the restaurant was nice enough. My only critique is the price of the food. Its not cheap at all. e.g. A chicken tikka leg quarter. Cost $9.52 with tax. You should get two leg quarters for this price. Note : This place has a good take-out business. Your food will take a while to be made but it is worth the wait. Will I go back ? Yes. read more

The restaurant opened late 11:10 am as opposed to their stated time of 11am. They mentioned they were short staffed because one of their employees quit. All in all the person behind the counter was very courteous. However, the food came out super slow. Ordered at 11:19am and received at 12:15pm. I ordered two Halwa Puris, Bun Kabab, and Chicken Karahi. The chicken karahi, halwa and the aloo ki tarkari were swimming in oil. The oil to tarkari ratio seemed 1:1 (see attached picture). The shami kabab in the bun kabab was undercooked (see picture) and didn't taste very good. The naan that came with Chicken Karahi was not from the restaurant tandoor but from a Desi super market (see picture). The Chicken Karahi also lacked in taste. Almost seemed like they had boiled chicken separately and then used tomato paste etc to create the dish. Not really how you make Karahi. If the owners of this restaurant are to present authentic Pakistani food, the quality needs to improve exponentially. The food needs to be made with love and without a ton of oil and super market naans are a definite no-no. read more

I'm really amazed by this place after a couple times. Very authentic, really great service. Your takeout is expertly packed in a nice paper tote (with logo and drawstrings) and kept waiting for you in a warming cabinet. Sometimes on weekends they have milk chai. People are very friendly and really helpful. Food-wise: - mango lassi is great - chicken biryani is very authentic, includes the clove seeds and cardamom seeds etc. Spicy - beef kabob spicy but good - chicken puff, samosa, rolls really flaky and really good Looking forward to trying the goat curry and many others read more

I originally came here thinking this was Afghan food because of a sign I saw up front. Turned out it used to be one, but has since changed ownership and serves Pakistani food. It's a family owned operation from what I gather, and the space is easy to miss since it's not visible off the main road. I figured I would try a basic beef kabob with rice and "salad". I put the word salad in quotations because what actually came with my order was a moderate amount of sliced red onions. I enjoy red onions with my meal, don't get me wrong, but when it says salad on the menu I expect an actual salad. Having said that the food was delicious and I found the lady who took my order to be quite friendly and helpful in navigating the menu. I do want to warn anyone who decides to order from here that it is wise to call ahead and place it. When I ordered in person it took a half hour to get my food and I was the only one there at the time. They make everything from scratch and take their time so this ain't quick in-n-out, but the results are worth it. read more

I'm deeply saddened by my experience with Kolachi Kitchen. They completely ruined my nikkah wedding event that had over 250 guests. Would not recommend getting any size event catered from them. I met in person with the owner on 2 different occasions, one of which was 3 days before the event where I was reassured that everything would arrive by 11am and be set up by 12pm at the latest (my event was at 1pm). To my dismay, on the day of the event, the owner stopped replying to all texts and calls from me and my family after claiming our event was at 5pm. The food arrived so late in a disorderly fashion; not enough food, missing dishes, biryani trays without any meat in it, food in large pots and not properly packaged in trays. Even the banquet hall workers admitted to never seeing such horrible catering. In addition to ruining the main dishes, they also ruined my entire dessert table. I provided all the desserts, stands, and decorations in advance that were all labeled and a clear pdf document describing how I wanted it set up. It was not set up anywhere close to how it was supposed to be and half the dessert was never put out and went to waste. For this reason, I would also not recommend their sister company ALMA Events for decor. Many of my attendees were from out of town and traveling back the same day which I mentioned at our in-person meetings. The food came so late that many of my guests left without eating. I used over 6 other vendors to put together my large event and not a single one had any issues with timing except Kolachi. I love to support female-owned Muslim businesses that use halal ingredients but unfortunately, this is completely unacceptable. A mere minimum refund that came with rude comments and an insincere apology does not make up for the amount of stress my family went through. read more

The owner stopped responding to our calls while guests were waiting for the food! Horrible service. Items were missing and bread wasn't even enough for half the people. Instead of owning up to their mistake and offering a full refund they lied and said we changed the time of the wedding. Don't use them to cater large events, unless you want to get embarrassed and go hungry. It was supposed to be a new phase in life, Where a girl goes from being a maiden to being a wife. We were all anxiously waiting the anticipated date, However when the big day came the food was three hours late. Very less bread, salad without dressing, and missing food, And on top of that the service was unresponsive, dishonest, and rude. Chicken tikka boti was very authentic and had the true Pakistani bbq flavor that you just don't get at Indian restaurants. Chicken biryani was also amazing and reminded me of biryani that you would get in Karachi. Beef seekh kebab was good. Nihari was okay, a bit too oily for me. Definitely deserving of 5 stars. Go give this place your business, I am sure it will become a regular in your rotation of top notch restaurants. We ordered: Zinger Burger, Beef Seekh Kabob, Chicken Seekh Kabob, Chapli Kabob, Chicken Tika Boti, Masala Fries, Naan, and of course Mango Lassi. Here is some additional info on what we liked and what could be improved. What we liked: 1) Very inviting, great simple decor, pristinely clean lobby/pickup area 2) Very reasonable prices for the food quantity and quality 3) Before we tried the food, we were swoon by the ultra high quality take-away Kolachi branded bags, boxes, food liners, etc. Truly differentiates Kolachi from the competition 4) Our family's favorite was the Zinger Burger and Chicken Tikka Boti. The other dishes were good too but these two were a step above others. Mango Lassi was also really good What can be improved: 1) Chapli Kabob had a great flavor but the consistency of the meat patty was very different than Chapli Kabobs I have had in Pakistan, Chicago, or NYC. This would have been much more enjoyable if the texture matched the taste of a Chapli Kabob 2) Masala Fries were seasoned perfectly. Really reminded me of street-side fries vendors in Lahore. However, the fries weren't crispy at all - in fact the seemed undercooked and soggy. This could come down to personal preference but my preference is always for crispy fries 3) At $1 per naan, I was expecting fresh tandoori naan. I guess that was my fault for expecting this without confirming that would be the case. I am pretty sure the naan was one of those naans that come in a packet and can be purchased at the local desi grocery stores. Would love to get real, fresh tandoori naan. - hopefully Kolachi will get a tandoor 4) Mango Lassi size was too small. When comparing the size for the price to other establishments like Detroit Eatery, Kabon n Curry, etc., I was disappointed at the size 5) Their specialty definitely seems to be BBQ but I would love to see their menu expand over time to include other gravy-based dishes as well read more

Just visiting for the Michigan game and wanted to get a quick meal in before the tailgate. I couldn't be happier. I didn't know what to expect just ordered a single meat BBQ plate with chicken tikka, a roll with chicken tikka and a side of naan. The plate came with rice, onions, and French fries. We didn't leave anything on our plates. So that pretty much says it all. If you are debating on getting an extra naan just do it because it was great. So soft and fluffy.
