They have a teenage boy working the floor who didn't know what a two piece vs three piece was and couldn't answer a singular definitive question. The rest of the staff was also telling us that they were new and could not help because they didn't know anything. I'm just a little bit lost as to how they do training or what is the point of having people work the store? Why not just order online if we can't get help? I think they just didn't know how to work the system and instead of calling us, they let us show up and do nothing. Waste of time.

We were first attracted to the glazed pots outside because they had such a nice collection of colors. Then we walked into the greenhouse and were greeted with the heavenly fragrance of petunias from the many hanging baskets above the rows of plants. It's one of those nurseries where you can find just about any kind of plant you've been looking for. All of the plants are beautiful specimens in tip-top condition. The greenhouse adjoins another greenhouse that is decked out with very luxurious patio furniture and decor and is followed by more rows of plants to the right and the main store entrance to the left. It's absolutely gorgeous in there! We sort of explored this business in a round about way, but eventually made it to the front section of the store which is a large room nicely decorated with antiques, collectibles, and melamine dishes... all for sale! This place is pricey, I would say twice the price of what you'd pay for a comparable product elsewhere, but it was such an unexpected gem we ran across while cruising the countryside that I think it's something everyone should explore when in the area. I found succulents here that I've never seen anywhere, including at nurseries in southern California that I visit twice yearly. One in particular, Chinese dunce cap, I've been hunting for for two years during my travels and have finally found it here, in Amarillo, Texas of all places! I have had the opportunity to buy it online, but I prefer to buy in person from quality nurseries. They have helpful photos with descriptions and directions for care posted above most of the plants. As we walked through the succulent greenhouse Tracy walked along with us offering helpful advice and taking our picks to the counter so we didn't have to carry them around. Afterward we went to the outdoor/perennial area where we were met by Val and she graciously offered us a guided tour through their lovely rock/cactus garden pointing out plants that are hardy for our growing zone. We had a wonderful time and will definitely go back every time we visit Amarillo!

Big Lots used to get discontinued items that other stores were moving out to make way for new merchandise and they had real cheap prices. Over the years I saw them change to a store that carries basic merchandise that is very similar to what a Target or Walmart would carry. Tuesday morning still has that wide variety of products and you never know what you will find there on any given visit. They almost always have a little bit of yarn although they didn't have any that I could use today, no acrylic, only wool and cotton. They had a wider variety of scrapbooking and craft items than I remembered. They had lots of pots and pans and dishes and kitchen items, Linens, figurines, candles, fragrances and lotions, even some food items like cookie mixes, coffee syrup flavorings, candies and cookies. I didn't see any coffees and only saw a pumpkin flavored tea that I can recall. I wandered around for about an hour and spent under $20 but it was very entertaining if you enjoy just walking around and looking. I also think it would good be a good place to look for a gift item. There were plenty of customers, not crowded but bustling. I encountered one clerk who was extremely nice, a young girl who asked if I needed any help and if I wanted her to go get me a basket. The cashier was much more blase like she wished she was someplace else. I didn't have occasion to use the restroom. The store is barely visible from the outside, being overshadowed by the Big Lots store next door, but on the inside it's really quite big and full of lots of goodies.

I realize when I park that it was after 9 p.m. but I think this one must be open till 10. That seems to be the trend these days. I picked up eight or 10 items I needed. I had no trouble finding all but one item that I was after and when I asked the cashier about it she checked with another employee, possibly a manager, who went back and looked and darned if she didn't find the item that I was after even though I hadn't found it when I looked. I was greatly appreciative and appreciated the customer service as well as the item itself. Everyone was friendly and helpful and I left happy.
