I'm surprised that KDON is still surviving and it still ranks as the #1 R&B radio station in Salinas and you can see why they still are #1. But I hope they continue with playing more awesome music because we still need another R&B oriented radio station in Salinas that can compete with the awesomeness of KDON

When Wild 94.9 or 106 KMEL gets too repetitive for you, 102.5 KDON is always a nice option to press…read moreon your radio presets. It actually plays a similar format as Wild, mostly mainstream hip hop and R&B, with a little Latin flair mixed in, but the DJ's seem less obnoxious, and you have more of the small town feel. It is less commercialized, and they don't repeat the same songs over and over again, throwing in a few old school classics here and there. The best thing is that signal carries on for miles and miles. As far as the Bay Area is concerned, it is obviously strongest in the South Bay, with its closer proximity to Salinas, but even up in the northern stretches of the East Bay, it is not unusual to be able to pick it up, especially in the evenings. Heck, I have even listened to the station in San Francisco on occasion. Anything north of that, the signal tends to switch off with 102.5 KSFM in Sacramento, which also plays the same type of music, so you might not know which is which! However, I really can't stand the DJ's on KSFM, so whenever I'm north of Oakland, I make sure not to select this preset button. My favorite DJ is Mary Jane, who plays the slow jams at night, ala Xavier the X Man on Wild, but it is always more sexy to hear a female voice.

Much like DB would like to say, but with a totally different spin. I enjoy the talk format. On the other hand the station control techs have some real problems with ad splitting and queuing, particularly in the evening. I'm guessing that's when everything is set to automation. They have to be losing ad revenue when that happens and it just seems like a no brainer to install remote operation controls. I've seen that there has been some updating of systems to incrementally get up to speed, which is funny to listen to. The most irritating thing is the constant double drop ad and show conversations. The occasional dead air can't help with income I should expect. I've had occasion to understand that it's corporate decisions that dictate where funding will go. Just think that a little bit of money, time and tech will make the stations run smooth again. Which will actually put some black ink on the balance sheet. Please, Please, Please. update the tech and make it work! Sheesh enough already! It's been years!

I met him once before, and he is just as pleasant, and congenial, in-person, as he is on the radio! Thank you, Mark, for your SUPERLATIVE, PROFESSIONAL work that you do for all of us out here in 'radio-land'! The downside to the KION radio station, is the UNBELIEVABLE lack of proper monitoring of their transmitted content, while on the air! SO MANY, MANY TIMES, I have had to endure many 'overlaps' of a multitude of commercials, and other content, simultaneously being broadcast! Doesn't ANYBODY monitor studio transmissions, who has control to eliminate the overlap? At one time, I heard as many as THREE contents being broadcast, all at the same time. I have a Radio Telephone Class 2 Radio license, and I KNOW that there is a SERIOUS lack of professional Production-Control to let that happen!! Please, do something about it!! On the upside, there is NO BETTER CONSERVATIVE RADIO than KION!! Thanks guys, for bringing the HONEST TRUTH to the Central Coast! Other than Classical music from time to time, you folks are ALL that I listen to! Thank You, KION!
